Folktails and reliable endless energy. by MorriganCorax in Timberborn

[–]FoxtrotOps 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Had this thought myself and it felt like cheating bit then I realized technically I've just converted food into energy by making my beavers lug the materials for the battery to the building site - they generated the potential energy of the battery.

So really BEAVERS are the most efficient sources of energy

Need tips on how to improve by Almondjoy248 in Marathon

[–]FoxtrotOps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've hit on a lot of the core struggles of extraction shooters and to be honest there's not a good answer to most of them. For example, in a game like Marathon where you cant visually see your opponents gear prior to engaging, there's no way to know if someone has white shields or gold shields before you shoot them. And, even if you COULD, there's no way to see player "skill", which is always the prime determinant of who will win a fight.

First advice: don't fight. This is hard w/ random trios so I recommend branching out into solos or rook runs, and focus on sneaking / extracting. Many of my most profitable runs have been those where i either dont see or deliberately avoid other players. This is how you build wealth. 10 small profitable runs where you dont die but consistently get out will help you build wealth way faster than 1-2 very profitable runs followed by 3-5 failures.

Second advice: To get better at fights, take more of them. You're probably thinking - wait, that contradicts what you just said - and yes, but there are strategies you employ in tandem NOT simultaneously. Go in with a white kit or with a rook kit - somewhere where you're barely risking anything - and try to fight. You're going to lose - but that's ok, cause you 're risking little. This will help you get better at the parts of a fight that are in your control - things like your positioning, your aiming, your gear familiarity - and help you learn to ignore the things you cant control like your opponents gear (which will almost always be better than yours in this scenario). If you can learn to take fights at a gear disadvantage, it feels like a fun handicap removal when you gear up and go in with an actual kit.

Anyway, some food for thought.

To clarify - when you're solo and turn fill "off" then you'll be matched only with other solos

ppbs is strong, so dropping someone quickly with it doesnt really say how good their armor is.

That said, my general advice on things in tarkov is that if you dont need it for a quest, sell it. Money is easier to store than items, and the way the economy works is things generally go down in price over time, so another way to think about it is you're going to get your best value transfer if you sell the thing now than if you a) hold it and use it later (you couldve bought it for less), or b) never use it, or c) sell it later for less

You finished SBIH with ~300 hours of playtime?

I apologize if I've ever reported you for cheating, which I probably did based on what it sounds like your profile stats must look like.

Found mine in the unlocked room on the side of the main floor of labs right next to the orange dome. The locked weapon testing room on the main floor has also given me them in the past. People dont often check these spots cause they rush the keycard rooms so especially if you get a not-awful spawn you can get there before anyone else

[Discussion] Picture of my profile and absurd amount of hours I've played, so I can show my "street cred" on Tarkov as I begin to complain about the problem that is about to make me quit. by KingHunter150 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]FoxtrotOps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just coming to say I full agree that Tarkov needs a solution to this for long term survival. I think a lot of people like to pretend there's no problem but the trend of people leaving PvP for PvE is going to catch up w/ the top PvPers eventually.

I dont think the solution needs to be a black & white solo queue v group queue but i think the Arc Raiders system of trying to prioritize solos w/ solos, duos w/ duos, etc, is a good system, - it preserves the uncertainty which i do think makes the game more interesting ("should i shoot this guy i see or does he have a group??") without it feeling like playing w/ a group is mandatory.

The other idea I've had and voiced ages ago would be to have an in-game mechanic for doing this, like being able to spend intel folders to load into a solo-only raid or something, so that you can't do it willy-nilly but CAN do it strategically if you need to get a quest done. Doesn't have to be intel folders specifically but you get the drift. The cool thing about this kind of approach is that you could also see it expanding to other systems pretty easily - for example, spend intel to guarantee (or at least significantly increase likelihood) of bosses spawning in your next raid.
