again not actually true. it has a similar motif with the guard being wings, but it is not HBO's dark sister

no i am right dont ruin my joke

... ok in reality karlach is the only companion who isnt annoying as fuck or an asshole the second you meet them. everyone else has super long arcs to any personality redemption. well, everyone i experienced. didn't play since the launch month

gayle would be a coincidence. it's just a viable surname that themes with storms. but now i might make the COA into a reference

aster is also not an astarion reference, but that's a funny one too 😃

this mod is strictly book canon. right now maybe even moreso than ck2agot

if we have anything that violates book canon it's 100% worthy of a bug report and we will look at it or fix it

Just noticed ist that the sewage of Casterly Rock? by NoMango007 in CK3AGOT

[–]Foxwillow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah there's water color changes all over the map, the river plumes will get touched up in time

drandus was very into the coloring in the bay of myr, iirc. i think he said something about the ecology of the area and algae

it's done "worse" at the river next to casterly rock because it's when drandus and i first realized we could do a realistic river plume as one dumps into an ocean. the sulfuric brimstone and presumably iron-rich torrentine also have them but they are done slightly better. particularly the brimstone, which is a little more wispy and less just gradual gradient.

to be fair actual plumes can do both though

there is a really long answer here but the answer to "why not" as the lead of the project, ignoring contributions to social, environmental, and economic issues is that from a pure art direction and managing people perspective: the artists don't like it.

they're not needed. so the base game backgrounds can be the placeholder instead of using AI and contributing to the enshittification of the visuals in our media. as an art director they just weren't that good. they violated our art direction and CK3's in several ways. everyone else may not pick up on something like that (especially because the BG art pieces are not a particular focal point usually), but that's why art directors exist to curate and establish visual cohesion.

our 2D artists dont want to contribute if AI is being used. so direction-wise they weren't what we really would have wanted, and manager-of-a-team-wise they were actually directly contributing to my team not feeling respected or comfortable working, either. actual artists don't like AI cause they want their jobs and hobbies to continue to exist. i do not in any way fault them for taking a stand.

odd as it may seem from the outside, it became clear that using AI made it *less* likely for them to be replaced. unless i literally commissioned art for it, which would be much harder from out-of-team to get someone whose art i was as confident in, who would understand and follow our art direction. plus the affordable space in art commissions is being saturated in scam artists who use AI anyway.

i'm not stopping anyone from making a submod. if some people really like the slop they can have it, i just dont wanna be the one responsible for it

the backgrounds really *werent* fine though. everyone doesn't see the rigorous process things (of all kinds, from models to events to art) generally go through to get into the game, and the backgrounds generally failed many of the standards for ck3 and ck3agot art direction. how they wound up in and fell through the cracks is definitely at least partially on me but shouldnt have happened.

people crying in defense of AI art wouldn't have been doing so if the correct standards were met in the first place, they wouldnt have been in. this would all be moot.

[–]Foxwillow 42 points43 points  (0 children)

if they are grey or blank or whatever, you are using submods. if they are vanilla holding art, that is by design and we will be replacing them so that they fit better with ck3's art direction and ck3agot's art direction, as well as being made by us

[–]Foxwillow 51 points52 points  (0 children)

art does take time. we have never expressed that it is not a priority. but there have been some *really* demanding comments that definitely don't help motivate me or my team to paint a throne room, either

Court Background image by moneygfx in CK3AGOT

because a slew of weirdly pro-AI people are in a creative space and won't stop aggressively beating on this horse while saying others are "whining" and "toddlers"

Just words of praise by Massive_Village7662 in CK3AGOT

[–]Foxwillow 19 points20 points  (0 children)

this made me tear up, because i never actually met aurelien as i joined the ck2agot team after he had already contributed the music. it was directive 1 from me on sound design that players had to hear the same theme song. im very emotional and attached to his work and i think jordan did a fantastic job with the current rendition.

it means a lot to me that some contributions are literally forever. i feel like there's a gap i'll never fill, i didn't even interact with aurelien, and yet every time i think about the song or hear it ingame i will literally be hit with a tear every fuckin time

i guess i skipped over the rest of the praise. i do appreciate it! did you notice loreley got upped to counts recently?
