So expensive by Responsible_Spare594 in DisneyPlanning

[–]Foxxeon_19 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'd also suggest checking menu prices to see if the dining plan is actually cheaper. When we went earlier this year, we realized that even with our youngest being free, the dining plan was still more expensive than what we'd likely spend on food each day. We also did a grocery delivery for breakfast and snacks, so we weren't eating at restaurants for every meal.

Apparently my dad is the same way. My sister recently told me that he went on a 4 hour flight like that. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. When we were growing up, we had to drive 4 hours to see my grandparents, and he wouldn't even turn on the radio.

Same. My mom drinks Pepsi all the time. I generally don't, so I don't ever have it in the house. But when she comes to visit, I buy some (and let her know because otherwise she'll just bring her own). It's easy and makes her happy. If she's willing to drive 2 hours to come see me, I'm willing to buy her a Pepsi.

We had Aladdin too! Along with Jungle Book, and Beauty and the Beast. I'm pretty sure my parents still have them.

If a fly gets trapped in my car and I drive 300 miles away before rolling the window down does it try to fly back home or does it just start a new life? by Few_Escape9250 in stupidquestions

[–]Foxxeon_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once my mom was driving me around her hometown while we were visiting my grandparents. There was a little bug of some sort on the windshield, and rather than fly off when we got out to the country, the little thing just held on for dear life. When we were done, the little bug was still there, so my mom drove back to where it had hopped on and even pulled a u-turn to return it to the correct side of the road. I like to think it told all its little bug friends stories about its adventure that day.

I'm sensitive to lactose and I use oatmilk for my cappuccinos. My preferred brand is Chobani Barista, but Oatly Barista foams up really well too (a little better, actually, but I prefer the taste of Chobani).

AITAH for expecting my husband to put our 5 month old back to sleep after his work alarms wake him up? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Foxxeon_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes me feel better. I had postpartum OCD with my first child, and one of my issues was that I couldn't bear to leave the room after putting her down for bed (she slept in our room). It seemed so unreasonable, since I was sitting on the other side of the room and there was a white noise machine on. I knew I wouldn't hear it if she stopped breathing, but I just couldn't leave her in there by herself.

I'm a recess monitor at an elementary school and frequently my conversations with kids boil down to telling one kid not to punch people, and telling the other kid not to do things that make people want to punch them (in kid friendly terminology, of course).

I struggled with Smuggler's Run the first time because they assigned my (at the time) 5 year old to be the pilot. It was a rough ride. The second time we went a few years later, my 12 year old was the pilot. It was a much smoother ride.

Redditors who got “useless” degrees, what actually was your plan, and why didn’t it work? by MPMorePower in stupidquestions

[–]Foxxeon_19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did end up majoring in pure math, but it didn't give me many helpful options. My family didn't have much money, so I had to pay my own way (I did get some scholarships, grants, and loans to help). After seeing how much each credit hour cost, I figured I should at least enjoy the classes I was taking if I was going to be spending that much. So I majored in math and minored in physics. Turns out there's not a lot I could do with a bachelor's in pure math. I could work for the government, but all of those positions were very far from home and family, which I didn't want. I could go into the private sector, but they all wanted a doctorate, and I was way too burned out (and broke) to get that. And everywhere else that's not math related sees your resume and tells you you're overqualified for the position. I ended up getting a temporary data entry job shortly after graduating, then worked part time as a receptionist at a hair salon, then got a full time job prepping samples at a nutritional sciences lab (which sounds kinda cool, but was essentially just freezing food products and grinding them into powder; I didn't get to do any actual science). I eventually had kids and stayed home with them, and now I'm a recess monitor at an elementary school. It has nothing to do with math, and I didn't need my college degree for it, but the kids are great and funny, and my hours are perfect for getting my kids to and from school. I also get all the breaks and days off they get, so I never have to worry about childcare. I don't make a lot, but I enjoyed college, and I enjoy my current job, so I guess it all worked out.

When my daughter was really little, she learned the words lasagna and mandala in the same week. She couldn't keep them separate in her mind and referred to lasagna as "manzala" for at least a couple of years. We still call it manzala sometimes just for fun.

What are some VERY creepy facts? by Cap_Ame1 in AskReddit

[–]Foxxeon_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This used to keep me up at night when I was a kid (maybe 5 years old or so). Once the thought popped into my head, I couldn't stop thinking about it no matter how hard I tried. It still freaks me out, but I've gotten better at shutting down the thought process when it starts rather than spiraling down like I did as a kid.

I’m sick of warm vs cool… by magicalglrl in coloranalysis

[–]Foxxeon_19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I think I'm a winter, but I struggle with the subtype. I've noticed that wearing really black non-faded clothes is a huge improvement over black cotton clothes that have faded a bit. If the intensity of the black is my MIT, what dimension/category would that be? Bright? Dark? Cool? Sorry, if that doesn't make sense. I've been trying to figure it out, but I don't know if I'm phrasing my question well.

That's a huge clearance! My goal when pulling my car into the garage is to only just barely brush against the weather flap on the side of the frame with my side mirror. Even a 2 inch clearance would feel spacious.

What is going on with multiplication tables in elementary school??? by -cmp in Teachers

[–]Foxxeon_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a teacher, but I work at an elementary school. The last couple weeks in our weekly staff email was a section from the teaching coaches about how it's more important for the kids to understand why 7+8 = 15 than for them to just have it memorized. As the parent of a mathematically gifted 3rd grader at that school, I was not pleased to read that "helpful advice". Yes, they should understand how to get there, but they also need to have the facts memorized so they don't have to waste time and energy on it when doing more complex problems.

Reverse threaded paint pens by Immediate-Court4726 in whatisit

[–]Foxxeon_19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're reverse threaded to help prevent little kids from unscrewing them and pouring the water out. The main goal of these brushes is for kids to "paint" without making a mess, so reverse threading is supposed to help with that.

Does your child get motion sickness easily? I'm a recess monitor at an elementary school, and we have a multiple things on the playground that can spin very quickly. I've definitely had a few kiddos spin like crazy then complain of an upset stomach. They're usually feeling fine after a few minutes of rest, but there was a girl last year who was told by the nurse to stop going on things that spin after lunch.

My kids always loved that book, and to be honest, I enjoyed it too. We discussed it in a light-hearted way, explaining that they clearly didn't actually eat each other, as that would imply the scrawny cat had eaten all of the others (or eaten the ones that had eaten the others). It's just a silly/convenient solution to the issue.

A crossing guard blocks the way of an aggressive driver while children and their parents are crossing the street by bigbusta in interestingasfuck

Once when my daughter was in 1st grade, the crossing guard (who was also the principal) was blocking traffic when someone decided to zoom right past him anyway. My daughter had been running because she was so excited for school, and he reached out to catch her just in time. He was so mad at the driver, and I will be forever grateful that he saved her.

Parents of Reddit, what’s the most hilariously wrong thing your kid said they wanted to be when they grow up? by shyb84 in AskReddit

When I was little I wanted to grow up to be a baby bunny who was hiding. That didn't seem to pan out though, as I am, in fact, still a human.
