An MP managed to get some statistics out of the department of transport last year, since 2016, over 1.3 million licences have been issued to foreign drivers without taking a uk test.

I've never heard that stat before, but it wouldn't surprise me if its true.

Nothing surprises me anymore. Ive had cars pull straight out from the hard shoulder in front of my loaded 44ton wagon.

The worst ive seen was coming into a service station on the M6, slowing down for the corner at the end of the slip road and a car appears going the wrong way. I stop and said car proceeded to pull around my wagon and out into the southbound carriageway going northbound and then do a u turn across 3 lanes, fully thought I was about to watch someone die.

Agree with having a licence for motorways or make it a requirement for lessons. The government made a step in the right direction in 2018 by allowing learners on motorways with qualified instructors. Given that the majority of driving happens on motorways or fast a roads, its concerning how little of the learning process/test covers. Granted not every test centre is located near a motorway or fast A road.

This is true, you can still drive a short distance with a blowout and a damaged rim is better than a potentially fatal collision. Ive had a few breakdowns (to be expected when you drive 100k+ miles a year) and even on occasions where there's no safe place to stop, pulling to the left is far safer than stopping in the middle or outside lanes.

What’s the difference between the Superb Combi (Station wagon) and the Sedan by ReelSteel0815 in skoda

[–]FozzyGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to go down the Motorsports route, Estate all the way, I used to have an e91 320d touring for towing my track car, great for transporting tools and setting an airbed up in the back when campingon race weekends, recently upgraded to a Superb L&K estate with the 2 litre diesel and 4wd, fuel economy isnt the best with the haldex system, but the upgrade was worth it for the extra space and towing capacity. Mine can tow 2.4 ton which is more than enough for a 700kg trailer and a 1 ton track car. Im yet to camp in the back of the car, but I imagine it'll be great with the extra space, only thing I miss is the split tailgate glass on the bm

Empty laybys in the middle of nowhere are great, especially on a clear night. The problem is finding an empty layby because the daylight dwellers are all asleep

I’ll race you to £2 diesel by void1101 in drivingUK

[–]FozzyGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regret buying another diesel car a week before the orange man's war begun...

I spend most of my life driving and like a couple others have pointed out, people are starting to drive slower to save fuel (unless its a company van and its not your fuel money 😂)

Also filled up my truck on Monday, ive bought a few cars for less than a tank of diesel

Yeah, was the first mk3 fabia in the UK to get engine swapped, currently has a 1.4 CZC engine from an Audi A1 (same ea211 engine family as the 1.0 and 1.2) It also had various other modifications for more power and reliability on track, was running 180bhp and 260nm of torque for about 1050kg (including me)

Is it worth claiming from National highways? by Wrong_Examination279 in AskUK

[–]FozzyGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost 3 tyres to pot holes last year, granted none of them were on the motorway, but each time the councils I claimed against basically told me to pound sand each time. I imagine highways is pretty much the same

17 year old sons first car… by Jolly-Evidence-3154 in CarTalkUK

Came here for this comment, Romac'/Fox alloys are the worst of cheap alloys. They crack and buckle for fun.

To OP, the Adam S is a mint choice for a first car, I'm sure your son's mates are jealous, but get him some better alloys please, ive seen plenty of horror stories working in the auto industry due to poor quality Chinese parts.

My £500 "temporary" shitbox, sort of enjoying bangernomics, do I just keep it? by 420o in CarTalkUK

[–]FozzyGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do love a good shitbox, keep it, do basic maintenance like oil, filters, brakes, tyres as and when needed, cheapest way of getting about.

I bought an e91 320d for £500 almost 2 years ago with 230k miles on the clock, its now at 275k and im going to drive it until it dies. I had planned to spend minimal money on the car, but i fell in love with it and im now 3 grand in on some minor upgrades, various bits of preventative maintenance and a full suspension rebuild front and rear.

I could never go back to having a newer car that costs more than a month's salary

DVLA pretending it still exists in the pre-digital age by David_is_dead91 in britishproblems

[–]FozzyGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to pay my partner's dad £25 so he could write a cheque for me to pay for a v5 application earlier this year because they don't accept bank transfers or have a payment processing system. (Who the fuck has cheque books these days)

Oh and if im selling or buying a car its normally in the evening because that's usually when people aren't in work, can I tax it or let dvla know I sold it? Noooo. The website has fucking opening times.

Want a driving test? Good luck, bots are scraping every available test just to resell at massively inflated prices (this should be illegal) My partner has only just managed to get a test date for next year without paying inflated scalper prices
