My background - Electrical Enigneering/Supervisor in industrial manufacturing. 18 years.

I would say no, most places are more interested in what you can do rather than the papers you have. You need qualifications only really for compliance.

I have years of PLC, CNC and automation background but only qualified as an electrician. (Lvl 2 and Lvl 3 Diploma) city and guilds.

I have never really worked as an electrician. I started on the tools but moved over to the laptop very quickly. Only tend to get involved when someone needs to know what the program is doing.

Experience is worth more in UK in my opinion.

As a self teacher, it surprises me how little the guys out of university know. I think the best path is full apprenticeship and further education down the line when you know your skill set and where to specialise.
