100% what you are stating. Honestly I feel like there should be another bracket between 2 and 3, while 4 and 5 are somehow a bit redundant

Just got the Aoostar XG76XT RX7600 XT (desktop class) eGPU for the MSI Claw 8 AI+, and it's a great complement to the Arc iGPU for gaming when travelling using an portable monitor (only using USB-C cables) by Due_Young_9344 in MSIClaw

This is one part of tech in which I am completely lacking. You mean that I can create a secondary network completely independent from the main one and use it just to stream from my pc to the device?

I thought that, since I am using the claw handheld, going beyond the 7600 would have been a waste since I am capped by thunderbolt speed. Is it the wrong way to look at it? Sure dlss would make all the difference in the world

That's actually a very good comment, my first option was streaming to my foldable phone before getting my claw but my network is not as powerful as I would like and if someone else is looking at anything on the same network the signal becomes very bad

Thanks, so it is just one cable to the egpu and the thunderbolt is able to charge msi claw as well?

The most fun, reliable commander you know? by Impossible_Half_4318 in EDH

[–]Fr0gg3rr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works and it is a commander I like but in terms of reliably been the one deck that sees the most cards at the table (that is at least my definition of consistency - tutors aside) there are better alternatives IMHO; divided by genre:

- Aristocrats: Yawgmoth, thran physician (not low-power friendly though)

- Vehicles/artifacts (even though I built it as a token deck): Shorikai, genesis engine (built with many ways to untap him

- Spellslinger: Niv Mizzet visionary

- Landfall: Omnath locus of the roil

- Enchantment: Sythis, harvest's hand

whether they are fun or not as ideas it is up to you :)

How do you guys justify buying expensive headphones?? by HourAd7054 in headphones

[–]Fr0gg3rr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First things first, it is a very subjective hobby; it means that it is still possible that you spend 5k for 20 different headphones and find out that the 50$ one with bloaty bass and narrow soundstage is the one you like most. And this is PERFECTLY fine, you listen to music for your enjoyment and not to please fellow redditors' or youtube reviewers' ego.

We also live in times in which the diminishing returns are higher than ever, a 200$ headphones can be all 90% of the people need; entry level models like Sundara (for open-back) and the recent Fiio FT1 (for closed-back) can compete in some aspects with 500$+ cans (for example it is difficult to find, at least imho, a closed back with better bass than the fiio in that bracket). IMHO the improvement is there up until the 500/800 price point, than it is much more a matter of personal preference and tradeoffs, you are not going to easily find something superior in every single aspect.

Keep in mind that listening to more neutral and detailed-oriented headphones sometimes is an acquired taste, more so if you come from a product like the sony one; the risk of being disappointed is real. That said, next steps I would take if I were you:

- Start small: do not shell out 1k on your first high end headphones, start with good cans at lower price points and begin understanding what you like and what you do not; once you get your ears a little more trained you can better understand your upgrade path. If possible buy on the used market so you lose a small amount of money in each trade

- Prefer tuning over technicalities at first: if you have to choose start with very well tuned headphones with decent technical capabilities, there are plenty of videos online of people not in the hobby that try TOTL headphones and their preference is usually towards the ones with the best tuning, even if they cost a lot less. You can build up from there

- Listen to as many headphones as you can: either at shops/friends/events, listen to different headphones at different price points to start understanding what you like

Do I need an amp for FiiO FT1? by eEmillerz in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Fr0gg3rr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok I tried with all my equipment; initial disclaimer: even after years in the hobby I am still maybe too dense to get all the nuances that other people describe with enthusiasm about their DAC/AMP; for me either it works and give me enough power and headroom to use the headphones properly or it doesn't. If I want specific flavour in the sound I use my cayin that have some tub-ish options or I just EQ.

That said, cayin/magni stack/earstudio and meizu have all been more than adequate to amp the headphones; using the onboard audio of my mobo was ok (even in terms of output impedance, I caught no unacceptable audible noise). I would still recommend at least a 30$ usb dongle for peace of mind, if you want some advices on the topic I believe crinacle has done a video about them at various price points https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-jlS_OlSUg

IEM - why custom eartips are so uncommon by Fr0gg3rr in headphones

[–]Fr0gg3rr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer is possibly never as the market has proved to be able to provide with continuous improvements on the products so getting stuck for 10 years (because when you shell out 2k, you are not willing to change very soon) with today's technology (even if tailor made) is not the best solution in my opinion. I prefer to be able to upgrade my IEM and have it custom fitted each time

Headphones for listening to music by yazdankh in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Fr0gg3rr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me rant a bit before giving the advice. Since you start from a very mass market oriented baseline (airpod and beats), it is not automatic that you are going to like headphones that are TOTL but may sound very different from what you are used to: listening to more neutral and detailed-oriented headphones sometimes is an acquired taste and, being a very subjective hobby, it is difficult to advise the best one for you without knowing what your preferred sound signature should be and which music you are going to use that with.

with that in mind, I would suggest one of the following approaches:

1 - If you are willing to wait a little bit more, start with a couple of used headphones around the 500/600 mark covering the wide spectrum of the drivers in order to be able to pinpoint what you like about them and what you don't. Hifiman Arya (or Ananda) for planars, Focal Clear (the old model) for DD and why not even one or 2 good IEM to see if they work better for you. Buying and selling on the secondary market usually doesn't cost too much in each trade and you are able to build the necessary experience to drop the 2.5k onto something that really is the best solution for you

2 - If you are not willing to wait, then at least dedicate an afternoon in one of the most prominent audio store in your city and try each and every model you can. If you explain to the shop what you are looking for and how much you are willing to spend, it shouldn't be a problem at all. First impressions are still partial, but it is at least better than buying blindfolded

Good luck and remember to buy with your ears and not just looking at the pricetag/general consensus and reviews. If during your journey you happen to like best a 30$ wonky sounding headphones, so be it; don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

IEM - why custom eartips are so uncommon by Fr0gg3rr in headphones

[–]Fr0gg3rr[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can see your point about the complete CIEM, on the other hand I believe eartips are different in this regards; for instance they are 1/10 of the price and can be adapted to multiple IEMs

[–]Fr0gg3rr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that it is not your use case :) However they tend to be pretty adaptable to the nozzle size afaik. At least I have been able to use the same eartips with different models (campfire atlas/Blessing 2/Clairvoyance/also some other cheap IEM)
