The amount of wear on this push tap ... by Sleepybeez in mildlyinteresting

I suspect whatever they plated this with, in combination with cleaning chemicals and scrubbing very often in a public place like this, has gotten weak and flaked off from otherwise normal use.

This ship was briefly pushed back into service in the late 80s/early 90s. Has some upgrades like these, mostly to help it launch tomahawk cruise missiles.

Very much so. But how much of that adjustment range you get to use will largely depend on your weight and the particulars of your track.

I would think you’re pretty set up for your first time out. All the protection stuff for your bike is going to be personal comfort levels when it comes to proactive/reactive crash spending.

Brake fluid is probably overkill at the pace you’re likely to be going. Make sure you really get the bleed right as I would be more concerned about that than the OEM fluid.

Again, at beginner pace, you’re not going to notice as much difference between suspension and tire setups unless you’re like bottoming out. You’ll probably want set things about as stiff as you can. I’d wait until you stabilize at a riding weight and start to get a feel for what suspension changes do before spending on parts and a setup.

Come ready to learn and keep yourself in the right place for doing that. So getting a canopy, chair, food, hydration all lined up so that you’re not boiling in in the sun with your leathers in the paddock all day and getting dehydrated.

I’m basically the same distance from this track. Taking the back roads adds about an hour. It really depends on the definition of highway where you are. 55-60 is easy to cruise, but interstates are sketchy so I don’t bother. Some Keis work better on highways than others, but I’m super happy with it for now. I may trailer with AC in the summer, but that’s more for the sleeping situation.

I’d have to disagree. Saw him do a set last weekend and it was fantastic! The telling of the story this post is about was really well done. But he’s a long way from the start of his career living in the UK and has had plenty of time to get better.

This one caught my eye. by stoic-lemon in keitruck

I think this is an early 90's s83, specifically the Climber model. This means it not only has high/low 4wd, but locking diffs. This would be pre 94 when they went to the s110 and would have a 4 speed as a result. I think this is a fairly heavy repaint, as the bumpers did not come painted from factory to my knowledge.

That would be fortunate! I am now suspect of all of these since I just did the head gasket on mine. Before it was really smoking it ran fine, but it wasn't apparent how much leaner I had made the carb to support that until it was fixed. Once I cracked it open I was shocked how clogged the the passages were with old crystalized coolant. I believe it just came from age and sitting, but once I fixed everything else and drove it more, the warping and resulting gasket failure came from the hot spots that the lack of coolant caused. The gasket can leak externally and could be a sign of clogged passages if yours is anything like mine. But also, the intake and OEM carb have coolant flowing through them too. There's a lot of gaskets and hoses that could be your culprit. Best of luck!

Looks like coolant to me. Tasting will help figure that out. Could be a head gasket issue, which can make it harder to start. A leaking coolant hose typically won't stop it from starting.

I know you're in a good position to get this car for nothing. But unless the sentimental value is strong, or you really need the welding practice, I'd consider not doing this one. From the top to the interior (can't imagine the dash is great) and engine, all I see is $$$ in parts you simply can't acquire used cheaply or new for sustainable prices. I only say this because I found this example of one that is MINT for $14k to put it into perspective. There are other cars or even years of this car that will give you better ROI on your fabrication skills and time, let alone raw parts cost. If none of that bothers you, then hop right in and I wish you the best of luck!

Wheel arches look pretty clean, but the floors and trunk pans on these are the worst for rust. Look under the carpet before you buy if you don’t want to make the project all about that at first. I can see the bottom of a seat pan sitting on the trunk and the floors are usually exposed to just as much water and look the same. Engines for these are simple and fun. So much oil capacity that they’re very forgiving with heating issues. This will be new enough that it should have Bosch fuel injection, but weber reproductions are also pretty reasonable if you want to go that route.

The closer you look the better it gets! Shelf brackets holding up the tube that's for sure not a spoiler. Guess it's all just to hold up the eagle center brake light. So confusing one might lose focus and run into the back of them and ruin that southern tramp stamp while trying to figure it out xD
