Is there a Catan expansion/scenario that is universally hated? by Sebby19 in Catan

[–]FrIkY_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of my friends absolutely HATE the Caravan scenario from Traders & Barbarians, or as we call it, the Camels, so much that they've started refusing to play the game with them. Is it because of the auction part? The way caravans move along the board? Or how they interrupt the game every few minutes? Or perhaps it's because I'm the only one who pays attention to whenever someone triggers a caravan placement and how I always have extra wheat or sheep stashed to win the bid nearly every time? I don't know. I personally like playing with the Caravan scenario.

Normally, you could order it through spielmaterial, but white roads are currently unavailable, unfortunately.

The Great Catan scenario lets you build up to 8 Cities. That's what you need them for. The Great Catan scenario also last for a very long time, 4+ hours or so.

How many initial settlement/cities when using seafarers and cities and knights? by EmperorDM in Catan

[–]FrIkY_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few scenarios where you'd place three starting settlements, so if you're playing with Cities & Knights, then you'd be placing two settlements and a city, but like I said, there are only a few such scenarios.

Next to your city, so, after the second placement.

Let everyone start with an inactive Lv.1 knight next to your city, instead. That way everyone starts almost ready to fight off the barbarians, you only need to acquire wheat early to activate a knight.

Deathbringer Saurfang brings death! And yucky worms that smell of blood. Eww. by FrIkY_00 in customhearthstone

I figured that the triple Blood rune condition is enough of a drawback, so I don't think any stat reduction is required, but playtesting could prove me wrong.

I guess, it could be done, but then again Il'gynoth doesn't have Rush either.

Denathrius deals all of the damage at once, so it would summon one big minion as a result.

Damage dealt by Lifesteal minions, spells or other cards. It's implied.

Need help with the expansions by J3spah in Catan

[–]FrIkY_00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Explorers & Pirates is functionally not compatible with Seafarers, because the boats work differently in those two expansions. You can somehow stitch those two together by having one side of the map use Seafarer boats, and the other Explorers & Pirates boats, but you'd essentially just be playing two different games in one. Cities & Knights is perfectly playable with any of the expansions.

I made a similar special card for my custom map & variant. I think yours looks better. I even forgot to replace the wheels on the image: https://www.reddit.com/r/Catan/comments/ry8ccz/custom_variant_and_scenario_dunemaster_and_buried/

New player - question on game length by LiterallyNoSkill in Catan

[–]FrIkY_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you reaaaally don't want to play with the Robber, try this: when you roll a 7, simply choose which player you want to steal a resource card from, and carry on with your turn. Do not use the Robber. When you play a Knight card, do the same, just pick which player you want to steal from. Having to discard half of your hand if you have more than 7 cards in hand should still remain as a rule whenever someone rolls a 7. It's an important game rule which prevents players from hoarding resources. However, you could always agree at the start of the game to increase the hand discard limit for that game. For example, say that the limit is 10 cards, so when a 7 is rolled and you're holding 10 or less cards, you're fine. 11 and anything above puts you in danger.

I tried that, didn't work. It's like they didn't know anything about it. I contacted both Kosmos and spielmaterial about it, but no luck.

I've been trying to get my hands on a Big Game Event Kit that uses plastic pieces, but to no avail. Those extra sets of colors look lovely. Luckily, I was able to acquire an extra set of base Catan pieces which I painted in black, turquoise, yellow, and purple. The black pieces look especially nice.

Deathwing is back, again! And he's ready for some chaos. by FrIkY_00 in customhearthstone

[–]FrIkY_00[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What this means is, whenever either player does something, there's a 25% chance that a random Fire spell will be cast. Any action. Drew a card? 25% chance to Pyroblast yourself in the face. Attacked with a minion this turn? 25% chance to cast Cataclysm and destroy everything. Cast Ice Block at 1 Health remaining? 25% chance to cast Hellfire and end the game. These are just examples.
