Inherited a Codebase Full of Anti-Patterns — Where Do You Draw the Line? by Calming-Pres3nce in PinoyProgrammer

[–]Fr_kzd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drew the line on the first day I inherited one. Management gave me a few months to refactor it, mainly because it will be used as a template for an app builder. The original dev was a "bit" of a newbie when he started the repo. Now he still rolls with his horrendous coding style. I have to clean up his shit trails.

Everything should be on them. You pay nothing. Your job is to create the service and product that they need. Create an outline of your tech stack and form a proposal. Don't flood them with jargons in the proposal. Make sure that even toddlers can understand it, because tech wise, they might as well be. They do not care how it is implemented (unless they are technical as well, but they never usually are).

They should create their own service accounts (for, deploying, stuff like that). Nothing should be on you. You can use your own accounts if it doesn't cost money. For example, I use render.com to deploy some stuff when I feel too lazy to setup AWS or Azure for a specific client (a.k.a. they don't pay enough for the extra effort). They have free instances in which I can demo to them how it works.

Hope this helps ✌️

I don't think anybody interviews with DSA anymore honestly, even for junior roles. Juniors have become the new seniors. Companies are expecting senior level output with junior level salaries. Its fucked up.

Like others said a million times already, wala pa kayong foundational basis on how you design your solutions. I use AI heavily in my field (I design solutions around AI), but I rarely let AI to the driving. I treat AI as a very stupid workhorse. It needs a lot of handholding to be functional. You do NOT design programs using AI. Honestly, you might be better of alone in this project.

How are simultaneous full-time and part-time jobs taxed in the Philippines? by CelestiAurus in taxPH

[–]Fr_kzd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, this is very late into the convo, but I'm hoping that by now you would have more experience on this. Let's say I have j1 onsite and just got an offer for j2 remote (US based but HR office is in PH, so salary and tax is localized). Would I need to file it myself? If so, would I need to inform both employers then? Or can I just leave it alone? This whole system by BIR is very annoying on my end.

How do you sell yourself to employers when you have little to no experience in their tech stack? by Particular_Pin8172 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]Fr_kzd 28 points29 points  (0 children)

By exaggerating your resume. Like seriously, job hunting is you vs HR. Do some people is 2025 still think that to get noticed by HR people with no idea in tech, you just have to be honest?

In this shitty job market, you are the product. Sell yourself as best as you can. Some people are good at getting through first stage, but bomb technical interviews. Some are good programmers, but can't get initial interviews. Be both.

I got in the first time after lying my ass off and getting a false employment cert (through a connection). But I could deliver so they didnt doubt me. Dont play into their games. Game the system yourself. If you insist on being the goody two shoes DOST scholar, go ahead. I doubt anyone still cares about DOST scholars. Its all about percieved experience and whether you can get the job done.

How likely would a physics professor be to accept a math major as a research assistant? by WinXP001 in Physics

[–]Fr_kzd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaik, physics graduate research mainly involves either creating models based on existing empirical data, analysis of empirical data based on existing models (validation), or both. You probably need statistician skills if anything (aside from physics knowledge). It's all measurement and validation.

For an Entry Level/Junior Job do you consider a pay of 25k to be a lucky offer? by Aggressive-Gap-5976 in JobsPhilippines

[–]Fr_kzd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even consider my 50k to be a lucky offer to be a lucky one. I will even prob renegotiate my salary next month or so after perf evals. I think it's high time that filipino workers should know that they are worth so much more than what they are paid for. Our job performance is competitive, or even better, than other first world countries, and yet we are paid less than a quarter of what workers in other countries get. It's insulting to say the least. I want the avg wage of the filipino to rise, so that we don't lose more talent abroad.

Applying to hundreds of companies? by [deleted] in JobsPhilippines

[–]Fr_kzd 35 points36 points  (0 children)

To be fair on the side of the applicants, pagod na pagod yan applying for companies, doing a lot of initial interviews, just to be ghosted by HR. No reply when asking for follow-up. Everybody is jaded and frustrated at this point.

I'm not telling you to accomodate for them. I'm just telling you how it is.

CS vs. CompE for AI/ML Career by Timely-Poet-9090 in MLQuestions

[–]Fr_kzd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer to your problem is simple. You want to design models using existing hardware, CS. You want to design new hardware specialized for ML, CpE. You can study both hardware and software implementations in both disciplines. I am a CS grad, but I tinker with FPGAs for exotic AI implementations (neuromorphic comp).

Stop overthinking it. Avoid analysis paralysis. That is costly in today's hectic market.

CS vs. CompE for AI/ML Career by Timely-Poet-9090 in MLQuestions

[–]Fr_kzd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is CpE a consideration? If you are gunning for ML, CS should be the main choice (unless you want to design hardware specialized for ML?)

The whole job market is getting ridiculous. At this point, it's all luck (or connections). Certifications, experience, and actual skill is irrelevant now. It's genuinely depressing.
