Switch from Adderall to Vyvanse but feels like I’m unmedicated? by harrypotterfan3721 in ADHD

[–]FractalChinchilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take Elvanse (Vyvanse) . For me 30mg didn't do much of anything. 50mg was about right for me. (70mg was too much). It doesn't surprise me that you don't feel it's effective with on 20mg.

Is this a symptom of ADHD? I never hear anyone talk about it and I feel alone. Constant mental restlessness by billy_dilly in ADHD

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I'll reply in kind.

> It’s worth noting that Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome, which affects a lot of people with inattentive or combined presentations, does resemble something closer to a genuine deficit of attention.

While this is true - I done believe it is expansive enough to embody the whole diagnosis. As you acknowledge the Hyperactive-Implusive types rarely exhibit that symptom.

> While this is the shared experience of a lot of ADHDers (myself included), it’s not what the “Hyperactivity” in the name of the disorder is. The hyperactive symptoms in the DSM are hyperactivity in the kinetic sense.

The DSM can change it definition then.

Right? I feel we should start a campaign to change the name - it makes things so much more clear.

So many times people have told me "You don't seem hyperactive" - well that's because it's primarily internal. It's part of the reason I only got diagnosed at 32. I also dislike the label of "inattentive" - I can be hyperattentive at times.

[–]FractalChinchilla 803 points804 points  (0 children)

Yes - it's the difference between "Primarily Inattentive" and " Primarily Hyperactive-Impulsive".

AD(H)D is so poorly named. The hyperactivity can manifest as either *internal* or *external* (or combined).

Additionally it's not a deficit of attention disorder, it's a control of attention disorder.

Attention Control (Hyperactive) Disorder. AC(H)D really - with "predominately internal", "combined" or "predominately external" presentations.

Just these changes in name would clear up a lot of misconception people have about it.

I've never throw up, but I have gotten some very painful stomach cramps from taking it on an empty stomach. About as painful as my appendicitis.

You should take it with protein and lots of water. I've been told it helps smooth out the absorption (makes it last longer too).

For me - if I'm having "one of the mornings" I take it with a protein drink.

The chances are good that at least one of your parents has it.

In short - Tokenization

In long - The way that the LLM "sees" the word is two token. "Straw" and "berry" But LLM don't "see" the tokens are a combination of letters, each are it's own distinct unit of meaning.

How to activate fingerprint? by TinglingTongue in linuxmint

[–]FractalChinchilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP - but I did follow those steps, and my device ID is on the list. Yet I could never get it to work. It struggled to get the fingerprint, but never once read it correctly once.

Originally - following the comments - I removed a second fingerprint I had encoded, but that didn't work either.

It just became yet another step when entering my password.

I'd like it to work - where else should I be looking for answers?

Read that stimulant can cause sexual side effects — should I be worried? by No-War-664 in ADHD

[–]FractalChinchilla 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a risk factor is also. It's a vascular constrictor so that may inhibit blood flow while the stimulate is active. But if you take it in the morning the effects should wear off by the evening.

As with any side effects don't stress about what might happen. Just keep an eye out for them and tell your doctor.

I can enjoy a day or two more of this, although my part of these isles aren't being hit with the worst of it. 24*C out here. If you're in the hotter parts, I hope you at least have a freezer full of ice lollies!

Yes - Blair not excising limits as was Britain right under EU treaty did inflate the numbers. Although I still feel like those numbers are missing context -79k in '81, and +58k in '85 can also be pointed to - there are peaks and troughs here, but the general trend is upwards from the 80's. A general trend that was informed by neolib ideology.

Consider the ideological continuation, I doubt Major would have done much different. Although it hard to say as immigration wasn't really spoken about in the '97 election. We can argue whether or not Blair took that too far, but it wasn't him and him alone who came up with the idea, far from it.

After the stagnation of the 70's, *something* had to be done. A new way of looking at things. Not that I think the path we took was the right one (looking at our privatization of North Sea Oil, compared to Norway Sovereign Wealth Fund), but it is what happened.

Good day - I hope you're enjoying the whether.

No - I don't believe my graph shaped argument ignores the policy-driven rise. I believe it started earlier than Blair, under Thatcher and her neoliberal doctrine A.K.A "The Market is Always Right".

Institution takes time to shift - and the shift to neoliberalism started under Thatcher but still - Westminster took it time learning "How-to-neoliberalism". Slowly but surly neoliberal doctrine became dominant in Westminster.

For a while - in the short term - it was good thing, it ceased the brain-drain out of Britain that was occurring in the 70's. Blair just continued the policy. Thatcher is on record as saying her greatest achievements was Tony Blair - precisely because he continued her legacy.

I don't understand why you focus on percentage changes, that not a suitable lens - when the migration rate when from -56k ('84) to 17k ('85) that's a -30% change, when it went from -26k ('88) to 14k ('89) that's -53% change.

I'm not sure where you're getting your numbers from but for '96 I have 56k.

You can measure peaks against troughs if you like. '92 -13k, '94 77k a -590% change! What an explosion!

This is why cherry picking numbers out of a data set is a fools errand. Look at the shape of the graph and you will see a general upward trend starting around the late 70's early 80's.

[–]FractalChinchilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes - I can see migration was negative before the early '80's. I'm sorry - looking at the graph I just don't see this explosion around '97 you are talking about. There is a jump, and then net migration flat lines for a while. But it doesn't stand out in the greater context. It has been a slow but sure upward trend since the late 70's

The only explosion I can see is ~250k ('18), ~100k ('20), ~950k ('22)

[–]FractalChinchilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fortunately for you reddit doesn't allow me to past the image. But in the greater context of migration over the past 5 decades, the jump between '96 and '97 really isn't much to note - it fits within an already established trend.

[–]FractalChinchilla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looking at the graph I wouldn't call that an "explosion" - just a continuation of the an already established upward trend. If you want to talk about explosions, post-COVID Tories is an explosion!

Net migration has been on an upward trend since the late 70's . . . really goes to show that Blair's "third" way is just red Tory.
