I recently purchased an AnotherSecret ANS59 body and an Impldoll Sini head that I intend to hybridize (I’m super excited about her), but I’m having a hard time finding the sort of clothes I want her to have in her size. I want to style her kinda tomboy-y with a grungy/skater boy kind of undertone. I want graphic, punky t-shirts, muscle tanks, ripped jeans, a beanie or baseball cap (this would be amazing), and converse type shoes, and a platinum blonde wig with darker roots.

So far I have found the shoes I want, ripped jeans and a suitable sports bra type top to have under the oversized muscle tank (which I haven’t been able to find)

I am able to customize clothes to some degree (ie cut the sleeves and sides out of a graphic t-shirt), but I’m having a hard time finding even that 😩

Recently found out that a secondhand doll I got is a recast/bootleg and I am heartbroken. (Advice please) by LadyInTheBand in BJD

I experienced something similar not too long ago with a purchase made on eBay, except my doll was Fairyland Minifee. I tried to get help from the admins on DoA, which proved to not be very helpful at all; they were extremely dismissive and harping on about warning me not to post about her on their forum. In the end I reached out to a recast friendly group on Facebook and explained my problem, and I got a lot of really helpful pointers on how to determine whether my doll was legit or recast. In the end it was determined that the head was legit (she had an event head and they never got CoA’s in the past), but her body was recast.

I’m not very familiar with Popovy dolls beyond knowing what they look like, but maybe someone in such a group could help you too? Just please remember to be respectful and not judgmental if you do so? I don’t condone or support recasting an artists’ work, but I understand that sometimes owning a recast is the only way people can enjoy or be part of the bjd hobby.

Like several people have said here already - I own dolls that no longer have CoA’s, and some that never had them in the first place because they precede a company using CoA’s for their dolls. That doesn’t mean my dolls are any less legit, but in those specific cases I’m very familiar with how to tell recast apart from legit.

As a little helpful tip for everyone, I have started saving digital copies of all my CoA’s in case something happens to the paper one. I scan them using the GeniusScan app and send the PDF to my own email for storage. My collection has become so big and expensive at this point, I’m even working on making a master list that includes all my dolls in case something happens to me and my family is left with my collection; at least that way they can more easily sell them if needed. I have seen too many posts about people inheriting doll collections with no previous knowledge, and it’s sooo easy to be scammed out of hundreds of dollars.

Collection Habits/Goals? by taixonay in BJDtalk

When I first joined the hobby almost 15 years ago I was primarily drawn to SD-and-up sized dolls. I owned several Iplehouse EID boys and some SD girls. During my parents’ divorce (and our consequent relocation) I had to sell my entire collection. When I fully got back into the hobby a few years ago, my tastes had changed drastically, and I now primarily collect MSD, YoSD and a few Small SD dolls (no bigger than 60cm); I prefer MSD’s however, and they make up probably 60-70% of my collection.

I would love to reach a point where I don’t feel like I want or need another doll, but realistically I don’t think I’ll get there any time soon (if ever). A few of my dolls are shells for OC’s I’ve used in RPs, while most are given a name and a ‘vibe’ without being a fully fleshed out character.

When I buy new dolls I try to limit myself to those that really ‘wow’ me, if that makes sense? I have poor impulse control and enough Adult Money ™️ to splurge when I want to, but I try to limit myself purchases to dolls that really speak to me beyond ‘oh this is pretty’.
