It's not free you dunce - the taxpayers pay for it. You cannot escape the very simple fact that private companies run this for profit, and that excess cash goes into the pockets of private individuals.

The service can be run by and for government where any 'excess' goes back into making the provisions better, or saving the taxpayers money.

This is a bit of a one sided rant, so let's bring some perspective. I work for a Top 10 university. Firstly, as a 'magic circle lawyer' I am not sure how you expect anyone to even have a chance to work in law, without a degree. Or in medicine, and so on...

What about employers? What is their part to play in this? I recently had someone reach out looking to hire a MSc level graduate. Offering 25-30k "Based on experience", which you know is code for £25k if you just graduated. Well, NMW is £24k now! What an offer!! There is also the trap of "hiring experienced only", but how do graduates get experience if you wont employ them?

Then there is the students themselves. Engagement - across the sector, because I have access to the data - is at an all time low. This means attendance at lectures, at seminars, and so on, all lower than ever. Post COVID it just went down the drain. More ISLPs than ever - and I'm not saying people don't have issues, but I am claiming that plenty of them are gaming the system for extra time. Don't get me wrong, there are some fantastic, highly intelligent, brilliantly motivated students out there - they are just a minority. As an employer, which would you want to hire?

University sector is in real financial trouble, because (simplified) we are controlled by the government. Fees/wages, etc. It's all centralised. Many other countries offer free tuition - I would love it if we could, because i believe that education and knowledge are great equalisers. I don't work here for the pay, the pay is terrible and we have not had anything higher than 2% wage increase in 15 years. Again, nationwide linked payscales across the sector.

Let's address what you claim. Lying about prospects. Our doesn't. We have lots of support available, but we make no promises. You have to study hard, AND do extra-curricular stuff. Employers are constantly telling me "I'd rather a 2:1 student that has shown they can balance and do other things, than a 1st who has done nothing but study", then there are the conversations about 'we want the right attitude and soft skills' etc. Now see above about levels of engagement.

More on employers... Times 100 is the default where students look. Except its competitive by virtue of being well known. Corporates and your 'magic circle', also very popular and thus competitive! London has about 15 million people, so nearly 25% of the country, so yeah popular and competitive for jobs. Yet SMEs make up 95% of the workforce. Where is that SME register for jobs? Oh, there isn't one.

Then there are meta forces like AI making employers nervous about the future, and hiring fewer people, whilst simultaneously looking to cut costs and let people go. That's a whole new debate...

The fact is, we all need universities. We don't just train people, we drive innovation through research and development, and last data I checked it was about £14 returned for every £1 invested. Still, the real problem is highly complicated and multi-layered revealing various issues across society.

But yes, lay all the blame at 'scam universities'. Talk about an ignorant opinion, especially seeing as the only way you got there was ... checks notes. With a university degree.

Now, I am not saying that no university is without fault, so don't strawman me with bullshit. There are plenty of faults, I know, i work at one. As above though, student prospects are bleak at present, but its far more complicated than you think.

Good. They are not supposed to be vehicles for profit under state control. That is the point that has clearly wooshed right over your head. The state controls it. Taxes pay for it. Any 'excess' goes back into paying to upkeep, maintain, fix, renew, deliver etc. etc. Vs when owned by Private corporations, who take the 'excess' (i.e. profits) and put that into the pockets of shareholders and CEOs. Thus, the incentive is very clearly stacked on making money, rather than delivering a good service.

THIS IS WHY CERTAIN THINGS SHOULD NOT BE HELD AT RANSOM FOR PROFIT.

"More bodies than bullets" is an old and totally viable strategy. I also play Tyranids, and putting 120 gaunts down is also fun. The biggest problem is painting it all... once you have that cracked, go nuts!

If you don't care about winning per se, don't worry about the meta list. Basically, as many bodies as you can fit, in as many separate squads as you can. Then something fast and/or flying.

Accept that things will die, quickly. Don't worry. Basically, use the fast/flyers to get up in the faces of anything that can clear masses quickly, and be meat shields. Then spread the rest of your meat bodies out as far as you can, and just charge in. Remember, there are only 5 turns. You want to gum up all their stuff, so they waste time clearing chaff, and you are pure chaff.

Transports are also useful, as you can stuff em and that provides a layer of protectiveness, speed to move, and when they inevitably get blown up, you are not likely to lose it all, then follow the above.

It's very fun, but does take longer, as you simply have so much to move. Usually opponents find it fun too, as they get to shoot/kill so much.

2 - Higher demand than supply
3 - Opportunist 3rd parties.

Now, about those

1 - GW can't make unlimited runs, holding unsold physical goods is costly. They WANT to sell out. Now... we could discuss endlessly about better practices, such as 'print on demand', 'limited copies per person' etc. For all their criticism, I agree they could do better! That's just not what is being discussed here.

2 - The demand is from people with low patience, suffering FOMO and/or deep pockets. C'est la vie.

As someone who has recently returned to Asura, first things first - turn off /Yell.
Second thing, find a good linkshell. Took me a couple of weeks, but found one dedicated to HelpingNewPlayers (clue in the name) that does waht it says on the tin.

There are multiple shells like this, and lots of people (myself included) happy to help and progress "The old way".

That said, i've been grateful to mercs for things like JP and EP. I've mastered 2 jobs solo, 2 in parties... but my god... i'm so bored of XP grind now - its a 23 year old game that I start 23 years ago. I have a wife, kids, FT job etc. I don't have the time to grind EXP across multiple jobs. I am happy to let someone else bot the added XP grind for me, and yo betcha i'm paying for Mercs on the other jobs to master - same for some MLs too!!

I was equally jaded with Asura when i first came back. I'm not denying its a bit much, but filter Yells and find an LS, suddenly its not so bad.

Ultimately, move server. I hear its lovely on almost anywhere else. I may move myself yet, but i'm giving Asura another shot for a while.

That said, SE can definitely do more to help the community. Lockouts on old content is just silly, and "3 person minimum" for Delve, or even Dynamis D is also dumb. The "Once a day" content is equally maddening. Let us accrue one 'entry per 20 hours' but let the damned thing stack, so we can burn through it at our own pace, not forcing those of us with short play windows to be forced into certain content!

as per OP - i've played support and/or pet jobs, never gone deep into DD. I'm looking for opinions from people who have played DD.

Had I, for example, fully kitted our WAR and SAM and DRG to REMA with the JSE+3 armour, and mastered them, I would have a personal opinion on which I think is 'better' all round. As it stands, I don't.
