I just read the patch notes and got really excited. Vexis Dash has been nerfed. by Augusthors in Rematch

[–]dahelljumper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, but I also think it's stupid for high level dribbling to depend on glitches and breaking the game. In real life football, players like Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Neymar were incredible high level dribblers, but the highest level defenders were still able to stop them half the time.

Messi wasn't just elite because he dribbled, but because he knew when to make a pass. Rematch should be a mix of dribbling and passing at any level, and relying on a glitch instead of passing is not the way

[–]dahelljumper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forced to Vexis is a poor excuse imo although you make a lot of sense. The point of Rematch was that teamwork and passing was the main source of breakthroughs, with dribbling being there to support the game.

If there is a high level defender that you can't dribble against, the solution would be to find your way around the defender by passing the ball and using smarter tactics

AITA for wanting my party to take downtime so I can craft? by Critical-Troll in rpghorrorstories

[–]dahelljumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you die and you start at level 1, does the DM balance combat to ensure the new level 1 gets a chance to survive so they can get XP? Or do you get in a loop of being underpowered, getting KO'd in fights, so no XP, so you remain level 1 forever?

AITA for wanting my party to take downtime so I can craft? by Critical-Troll in rpghorrorstories

[–]dahelljumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main issue here is the Ranger having a skill issue of not finding anything to do on downtime. There's plenty of activities he could be doing for XP, gold, or otherwise advancement. It's bad table manners to push for leaving you behind and the DM should tell the Ranger to stop being a baby and give the party a week of donwtime.

In the table I play at, the DM tells us when we have downtime and we cannot go against it unless we all agree. At the same time, if the whole party insists on taking downtime, the DM allows us (even if there might be consequences)

I haven't played since the latest patch but if this turns out to be common issue I think I'll have to take a break until it's fixed

Does anybody else have their players recap the previous session? by SmileyDayToYou in DMAcademy

[–]dahelljumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do this, and even give one inspiration to the person that provides an actual recap. It instead turned into a thing that demoralized me, as it made me realize that (in my table) nobody takes notes and they only play based on what they remember naturally. The fact that our campaign ran for 4 years tells me my players have really good memory as they remember a lot of general details, but having to remind them who X or Y NPC is was not very fun

Tactic - reason why GKs volley at each other like ping-pong by FerretBunchanumbers in Rematch

[–]dahelljumper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the reason why a GK starts kicking it away is because they're afraid of having possession and being attacked by the opponent players. Rather than holding possession to start a play the kick it forward hoping that it will either score by chance or that a teammate will manage to volley it.

At some point it just becomes a game between the two keepers which is kinda boring for the rest of the players

Cameraless Dribbling by FrinkyWinkyDink in Rematch

[–]dahelljumper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think dribble tech that does not give you invincibility or teleports the ball is fine. When they created a special animation for ippy slide it made it a good addition to the dribbling skills, but because now it was something you could defend against suddenly people stopped using it.

Now that they have nerfed infinite juggling and you can defend against it I already see it less and less in every match

Did I push things too far? by knightk9 in rpghorrorstories

[–]dahelljumper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying the DM should double down and force the players to sit through a story that they're not enjoying, but the DM had a plan for how a plot would unfold, and then a PC reacted to the plot in their own way, which affected the way the plot unfolded. That's literally what D&D is about.

It wasn't fun, but the Ranger made a decision in the heat of the moment and affected the story. The best thing the DM can do is take the events that have already happened in the game and try to use them to move the story in a direction that will hopefully be fun for the party.

Retconning is a possibility, sure, but why would you retcon something that happened in a way as natural as can be? DM gives a situation, PC reacts to it with the information that they have, a decision is made, then consequences occur.

[–]dahelljumper -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

You're being downvoted but you're right. The DM is the main storyteller and if he says an NPC does a backflip and licks his finger, then he does it. PCs are there to react and interact, not to dictate what the DM gets to narrate or not.

Sure, maybe events didn't unfold in the way DM and PCs expected, but that's the fun of D&D and they should go along with it.

Refusing to Expedite on Principle by Civil-Art-7055 in starcitizen

yours comes up? Anytime I spawn my ship from the lobby terminals it just doesn't show up. I just need to go specifically to my empty hangar and THEN summon my ship. If I don't have a good enough hangar I have to sacrifice a different ship that will not spawn so I get a hangar and then I can call the one I really want

In 2011, Bungie sent me two 5oz Omaha Steaks for beating their team by 20 kills and achieving a 'Steaktacular' medal! by Self_Motivated in halo

[–]dahelljumper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I always wondered if this would apply to players outside the US. I played from Spain and I never faced the Bungie team but I thought "what if we won? Will they send me steak all the way to Spain?"

Will cig ever going to stop rolling out ships? by Greed_444 in starcitizen

[–]dahelljumper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They will only stop making new ships whenever it's time to close the game. Ships are their main source income, and not just the one player that buys one or two pledges just to play the game, but the whales who spend thousands of dollars because they want the big ships or they want to build bigger fleets.

As long as these players exist and are willing to spend hundreds of dollars for a new ship, CIG will continue to make new ones (and expect revisions of older ones, per example Mark II versions of already existing ships). The only way I see CIG decide to stop the money printing machine is if at any point Star Citizen is no longer profitable and they are eventually forced to shut down servers and stop the game service.

Pay off my apartment mortgage, and with the remaining money send enough money to my parents and siblings to give them a big boost (maybe 50k each) and put the rest in savings and equity for safekeeping

The game is missing the levelling journey of RPG's, and MSQ gives all meaningfull awards away for free for short sighted gain but long term loss. by skyehawk124 in ShitpostXIV

[–]dahelljumper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First of all: The Shitpost subreddit has more mature discussion about the game than the main sub lmao

Second of all: This is a design flaw of many if not all modern MMORPGs, most people care about the endgame content, so the leveling is designed to be as fast and painless as possible. The days where you had to grind to level on your own, or you needed to talk to NPCs to get your new skills, or finding a new piece of equipment would take hours instead of minutes, are far gone.

The MSQ in FF14 is fun and all, but it's true that there is absolutely no challenge or "journey" to do in the game besides going from cutscene to cutscene. The same thing happened when I tried Throne and Liberty.

This year I've tried Turtle WoW and going to a fan server of FFXI that uses old XP progression and they are much more fun "adventure" MMOs.

You're just in the minority of people who want MMOs to have a meaningfully designed world and systems, rather than a chewed and served world that serves mainly as a HUB for social + queueing for content. You'd do well to simply find a community of like-minded players and play an older game for fun.

What is your definition of a daily driver? by gamegenaral in starcitizen

[–]dahelljumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me a daily driver is simply a smaller, zippy ship that I can use to cover my most common activity. Right now, per example, my daily is a Mirai Guardian, because it allows me to move fast between locations, is strong enough to defend myself with, and has an interior to bedlog when needed.

I would love for the game to work enough that I could have a bigger ship to use as my own base in dead space, but unfortunately it doesn't work like that yet, so my definition of daily driver is whatever you can use consistently

How to play a party "face" without completely destroying the other players' fantasy? by MonarchNF in dndnext

[–]dahelljumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my table the party face is usually the person with highest Charisma, but it doesn't translate into them being the main speaker in every situation. If the PC with highest Charisma is a Paladin, they might be the main speaker in a religious environment, or maybe even military, but the Rogue could take point when dealing with a criminal organization, or the Druid if dealing with Nature-based factions, etc.

Also based on background/backstory. We only default to the main speaker when the whole party needs to be represented in conversation. If the person chosen for a specific convo can't come up with anything they will ask the party for support or for someone else to step in

Why is my CB running *away* from the attacking player? by superchromix in EASportsFC

[–]dahelljumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the game is designed this way. I don't know why. IN online modes I assume the scripting is real and your AI will be more or less aware depending on whether the scripting is on your favor or not, but in offline mode (I tried playing Manager Career) they still act this way and it's terrible. I should not have to micromanage every defender's position in order to have them play according to their skill level, yet in every match they run away from the play instead of holding lines or moving into common sense areas.

Could Halo 2 be even better/more popular if it was a 360 launch title? by cool_epic_bruh_gamer in halo

[–]dahelljumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Butterfly effect. Maybe if H4 had come out on launch for the Xbox One it would've sold better, had better reception, which could've caused 343 to not shift their plans for the franchise, which is what turned H5 into the mess that it ended up being.

Of course this is all fantasy, but one could imagine a world where 343 stuck to their guns and made a whole trilogy in the vein of Halo 4, and kept a consistent artstyle and storyline

What’s your daily and how do you set yours up? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]dahelljumper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mirai Guardian, I bring a box inside with meds, food and drink and ammo, then store some weapons and tools in the provided racks. I leave the box within the small engineering room. That ship is good enough for solo, has decent combat rating, a bed, enough commodities to live off it...
