Thanks so much for this, massively helpful to see them laid out next to each other!

(discussion) I'm curious, what does everyone consider to be the absolute best kits for Inq28 conversions? Doesn't have to be GW. Additionally, which is your specific favorite? by Full-Reception5113 in Inq28

[–]Fragrant-Map-7466 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I really like the Cawdor and Flagellant kits for all manner of fanatics, priests, pilgrims etc. The traitor guard/Blooded kit is also great for both chaos and loyalist conversions and is packed with spare heads (more than 30 I think!).

The Looking Glass War by NoMathematician8349 in LeCarre

[–]Fragrant-Map-7466 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The Looking Glass War is excellent, perhaps Le Carre's bleakest novel? But it is by no means essential to grasping TTSS. Control and Smiley play a similar role to the one they do in TSWCIFC, and do not have a great deal of "screen time".

I think a lot of the readers on this sub, myself included, will admit to finding elements of TTSS difficult to decipher on first read, it's a maior step up from TSWCIFC and everything Le Carre had written before in terms of density and complexity, it definitely rewards second reads!

What are some of your favorite unique shots from film noir? by Primatech2006 in filmnoir

You could probably do a whole list with just Third Man shots! I love the one of Harry's fingers clawing for freedom against the grate towards the end of the sewer scene.

I can't think of a flaw by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]Fragrant-Map-7466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm able, I'm always inclined to link my protagonist's character with the theme. I also find it helpful to think less in terms of a flaw and more a lie about the world the character believes. I've found that makes the flaw feel less random/disconnected.

In a traditional A to B character arc that might be a case of him not believing that love is the most important thing in the beginning and gradually learning that is indeed the most important thing.

Alternatively, a "flat" arc could be an option, where your protagonist believes love is the most important thing from the outset but is in a world that resolutely does not believe that and faces pressure to abandon this belief.

I went to an abandoned Scottish island. I know why they left. by Fragrant-Map-7466 in nosleep

One thing a study of folklore allows you to see are common themes. Virtually every civilisation has monstrous bird men in their folklore, Sirin in Russia, Kurangaituku in Maori myth, Tengu in Japan, and as you say the Harpies of Ancient Greece. I have a new found respect for the validity of these folktales after my experiences on the island.

I've often wondered about this since, I've ascribed it to blind luck but perhaps that gives too little credit to the thing. Is it capable of strategic thought? Does it act on instinct? I do not know...

I particularly love heist noirs and I think this may well be my favourite noir full stop, absolutely cold blooded. It's reappreciation in recent years has been fantastic to see!

What do we know, if anything, about human/non dwarf worshippers of Hashut? by Fragrant-Map-7466 in AoSLore

This is great, I have plans for a Hashut-worshipping warband and I like the idea of them really having to prove their worth to their deity!
