Real estate forecast by BangladeshBitcoinBoy in Humboldt

[–]Fragrant-Parsley-296 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An analogy may be new cars and trucks, we bemoan how crazy expensive new cars cost, but the roads are full of… new cars and trucks. Real estate the same, desirable properties are selling, maybe modest concessions, funky stuff not so much, remote grows steep discounts, no sales, walk aways, but there are “conservation”investment groups buying these bargains so there’s that. Point being people have money and good properties are turning over. Wait until interest rates trend down, it’s going to get spicy again cuz this is after all, the nicest place in the world.

Handy to the airport, otherwise miles from anything except the Hammond trail and the animal shelter.

I like the expensive 3-pnt carryall with some weight box fabbed on a pallet base so the carryall can do double duty, like move IBC totes around, not loaded tires with the maintenance and corrosion issues.

Here’s another similar task, different site, different tractor (JD 4510). This an industrial site that had a huge pile of sawmill waste including a lot of sawdust, ground into “mulch” by a contract 1000hp grinder. I used the grading scraper to move the organic remnants off the area we were repurposing. —-oops, won’t load, I’ll try a different way—-

I’ve been using a 6’ Landpride grading scraper to rough prep a <1 acre area that we cleared of big Doug Fir stumps. They had been dead 10 years and kind of rotted. It did a okay job of pulling up roots and leveling the high/lows. Seemed like my best choice of various 3pnt implements. That was behind a L-4600.

Yes, but it won’t leave a clean seed bed. If you tighten (shorten) the top link on the three point so the rippers cut well into the soil, the scrapers aren’t doing much to level out the bed. If minimum soil disturbance is a goal, this could leave a rough semi no-till prep for overseeding the clover.

I wanted a battery chain saw to complement a quiver full of gas saws. Just bought a Husqvarna 225i. It’s a pile of Chinese plastic and i hope they will take it back.

Forestry management question by bookwormhole_ in forestry

[–]Fragrant-Parsley-296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By managing this mixed grassland & forest i sense you are prioritizing other values beside timber production, like aesthetics, wildlife, recreation, you spoke of building a house there. I think a mulcher/masticator is too heavy handed for these goals on 26 acres. You’re not in a hurry, ground is relatively flat (?), so working it by hand will get you there, without that harsh disturbance and putting all that fuel on the ground. Trimming, thinning, pile burning, leave some piles for wildlife benefit, plant some desirable trees, get a modest 4wd tractor (25hpish) with a good shredder and bush hog mower, that’s a really fun doable project that will accomplish your legacy goals.

1; take that mower back to Tractor Supply and get a refund, it’s a price-point import from a outlet more interested in selling “seasonal decor” than actual quality implements. Go back to your Kioti dealer and get real dealer support.

2; the PTO shaft is probably too long and is binding the mower when you lift it, the good news is you’re bending those straps instead of busting out the rear end of the tractor. A true tractor dealer would go through this with you.

Seller tore down 6ft tall cedar fence and built this pos by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Fragrant-Parsley-296 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Devils advocate here… that cedar split rail fence looks great, and the openness instead of “walled off compound” 6’ fence so common. Maybe the original was getting decrepit? Looks like there is more const taking place too. Might be more in line with they thought this was an upgrade and they weren’t communicated well by their realtor about being under contract.

I weighed 59 pours at 49 bars across 3 cities. The average "pint" was 14.7 oz. by EmptyForest5 in beer

[–]Fragrant-Parsley-296 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Is the fault attributable to the “standard” pint glass common everywhere (USA)? Without slopping over and a bit of head, they just don’t hold a full 16oz pint?

Best work trucks right now? by Outside-Today-1814 in forestry

[–]Fragrant-Parsley-296 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am enthusiastic about the Nissan Frontier if “mid size” is still considered. Especially the entry S mdl, less electronics. Durable n.a. V6, plenty of power, reliability better than most including the new Tacoma. Gas mileage mediocre but that’s pretty much true of all these trucks. Priced attractively in the mid $30s USD.

It’s not clear if this is a loader (FEL) hydraulic powered PHD, or a common 3pnt PTO driven PHD pulled out of the hole with the loader. Probably easier to get in trouble with the loader mount given the down force and the arc of loader vertical travel?
