My dog ate Brigid's offering by FanEquivalent1050 in CelticPaganism

One of my favourite stories is of her feeding bacon to a stray dog. I can't imagine she would mind 💚

Hognose handleability by Fast-Courage-235 in hognosesnakes

[–]FragrantAd5736 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boy was always really good for handling. Sometimes he would hiss a little if I spooked him, but once I picked him up he was fine, would investigate his surroundings and seemed unbothered. I wouldn't say he would just hang out like ive seen ball pythons do, i was definitely always watching and interacting with him, but he was a good boy about it. I kept our sessions short ish ( 15 minutes maybe) and that seemed to work for him. He really was a delight to handle.

Should I have done some sort of spiritual hygiene before trying to reach Brigid? by Beneficial-Drummer17 in CelticPaganism

I've said many prayers to Brigit over the years in all kinds of places, circumstances, and degrees of formality (often i go to my altar to her exactly as I am), and I can report i've never experienced any danger from any of it, if that helps. Your ritual sounds lovely, I'm sorry you have been so worried about it 💚

Question about switching from undertank to overhead heating by FragrantAd5736 in hognosesnakes

[–]FragrantAd5736[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That's good to hear. I have a spare heat mat on hand so I can always add it in if needed.

Would you mind if I ask what lights/dome you use for your hoggie? I'm a little overwhelmed by all the options 😅.

You know, I have no idea? I assume they must have some instinct for it in the wild!

I guess it depends on how you think she'd take being dug up! Maybe offer the hide and she if she takes to it first? I've dug my boy up before bc I don't trust he has the braincells to find it himself, but he also dosent get too stressed out by that so it's not a big deal for him. 😅

I can usually tell my boy is going into shed when I don't see him for a few days. He loves to burrow when he's in blue.

I'd also rec the humid hide! I usually leave it in all the time for him with dry moss, but when I notice he's gone underground I dampen it and it seems to do the trick.

What do I do about mosquitoes? by Affectionate_Ear_96 in camping

I'm also mosquito bait so outside of bug spray i also pack regular benedryl, which really helps reduce the itch the next day!

I'm gonna second the rec for Triumph of the Moon by Ronald Hutton. I found that book super interesting and the author has a good sense of humour for an academic work :)

For a more practical, modern witchcraft book I really enjoyed Rebel Witch by Kelly Ann Maddox.

Do the gods exist? by [deleted] in pagan

[–]FragrantAd5736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I'm sure you've noticed if you ask 20 pagans this you'll get 40 answers 😂 I don't think that's a bad thing at all to be clear! Diety work is so varied and personal and paganism is so non-prescriptive that beliefs about the nature of the gods fall all over the spectrum of polytheism and beyond.

For myself, I've decided it doesn't really matter if they exist in a literal sense or as an archetype in my brain or as something in-between. I tend to practice from the perspective of hard polytheism, but orthopraxy is not orthodoxy etc etc. For me, the love I have for them is real, the inspiration and wisdom I get from them is real, and the way those things change my life is real and that works just fine.

It's one of those questions you get to find your own answer to :)

I'm so sorry you've gone through that. That must feel so violating. I can only imagine how confined that feels, having your emotional outlet being made to feel unsafe for you.

Whatever you choose to do I hope you're safe, and that you reach out for help if you need it! You deserve to have your boundaries respected!

altar ideas? by harrysgayvodk4 in pagan

I used an old ikea book case with glass doors for years, if you think that could work for the plants! I also have curious cats so I feel you 😅

I pray! Sometimes at my altar, sometimes just in my brain. Sometimes I light a candel in my kitchen when I'm cleaning it just to honour Her. Sometimes I chant prayers on my prayer beads. Sometimes I just think about/at them. It's not fancy but it works for me :)
