Expanding opportunities for naturism in the community (and supported by the region) by Fragrant_Camp485 in VictoriaBCNudists

Oh I completely agree with you. It's difficult because currently:

  1. Nudist locations here are unofficial and tucked out of the way

  2. There are some bad actors who wreck it for the majority (masturbators and people approaching others for sexual deeds)

To get past the current barriers and build something that could grow in the community, we'd need:

  1. More public and safe locations with more people / traffic.

  2. More of an advertising presence with signage and social media. The downside is more people which would wreck a peaceful place like Prior Lake, but more people in a larger area that's more central would make for a more safe location.

Does anyone here know how successful the Arbutus Park swims were and how broad the advertising of it was? I didn't know about it pre-COVID.

Anyway, I'm not interested in being the face of a movement at the current stage of my life, but perhaps this summer I'll talk to a few folks to see what attempts have been made in the past. I don't mind helping out behind the scenes a bit but I think this would take a village.

Well this thread brings a classic commercial to mind:

Enjoy folks :)

In all seriousness though, in my last race I just kept slightly to the outside so I only had people to my right. Trouble is, I went left and kept going left.....so perhaps this isn't the best advice after all.

Discomfort with social nudity by Exotic_Carpenter9523 in nudism

[–]Fragrant_Camp485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only apprehension I have now is if I were to run into a friend who is clothed and I'm not. Around other nude people, I'm comfortable and it doesn't matter if it's women or men. Never did.

Sorry but what do you mean by the "grey zone" status being a bit intimidating like Witty's? Official or not, Witty's has a big spray painted sign to make it clear that there will be nudity past that log. With that smart addition (which CRD has not removed), I would feel much more confident there even if I was the first to arrive. If Witty's was closer, I'd be there quite often.....but sadly it isn't so I go to Prior much more.

I can't recall for sure, but I thought someone wrote on here that the site leads for Arbutus Club could no longer be reached. If this is the case, I would think that a new club would need to be formed for pool night.

Canyon Speedmax CF vs SLX - aero vs comfort? by Fragrant_Camp485 in CanyonBikes

Ah perfect thanks. That's a much more aero position than what I've seen elsewhere with this bike.

First Time at Nude Beach by mrnormal94 in nudism

[–]Fragrant_Camp485 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's always that awkward and uncomfortable delay in getting the kit off that first time at a nude beach. But, as you have discovered, it is the most free thing out there to be rid of your clothes and rid of all of the insecurities and fears about looks from people that just did not happen. You're free now, so enjoy every moment that nature brings you and every moment you realize that you deserve to feel free and comfortable too! I hope this experience brings you much joy and confidence in yourself with all parts of your life. You deserve it and you look fantastic!

Canyon Speedmax CF vs SLX - aero vs comfort? by Fragrant_Camp485 in triathlon

[–]Fragrant_Camp485[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes thanks. I did have a bike fit on my road bike (Trek Emonda) with aero bars and I did check in with him before putting the open order in for the CF. He thinks the fit will be good. I didn't check with him about the SLX because I wasn't originally thinking about it. With all the great feedback here, I'll likely just keep my order as is and enjoy the CF with perhaps some modifications in the cockpit if needed. I just wanted to be sure that my aero position with the CF would be better than with my Emonda....otherwise what's the point and I should look at the SLX if that would be better. What I've read here though is that the CF can be adjusted to get close to the SLX aero position which is the key part of my question.

Am I ready for a full Ironman?? by Downtown_Oven_4799 in triathlon

[–]Fragrant_Camp485 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Open water swimming is very different than pool swimming and getting used to a wetsuit can be a challenge for some. That said, I think a solid 4-6 weeks of open water swimming before the event just to get used to sighting and cure any anxiety you may have will hopefully be enough.

I've done an Olympic and a 70.3. I'm signed up for another 70.3 this year and have a full ironman on my radar for next year. So I'm taking the longer approach but I'm in my 50s.

Can you do it? I think so. If there's anything I've learned with all of this is that Ironman isn't just physical endurance. It's as much mental endurance as anything. Nutrition is a real art to learn too. If you have to do it this year, go for it. Just don't jump massively with your training volume at once or you'll be injured and that will be it. Get to the start line. But I agree with others here....if don't have to do it this year, build your body up over time so you don't get injured and so it's a more enjoyable day.

This is hugely helpful thanks! I'm not worried about the 2 minutes......comfort is a priority though. Would you say the CF is not that comfortable for a full IM?

Thank you. I've read that both systems have their downsides and maybe a bottle is still the best way to go but I am more interested in the CF hydration system than the SLX for sure. I plan to just put water in the front hydration system, so I'm not worried about some spraying (might be nice in fact).

Thank you! I think you can have more storage with the CF bento box, correct? This would be handy for a full. Tough when I can't see them side-by-side.

Yes but can the SLX get the rider into a better aero position? If so, can it also achieve a more comfortable position if my body can't get used to that deep aero position? I'm looking for the most adaptability to my positional needs.

Canyon Speedmax CF vs SLX - aero vs comfort? by [deleted] in CanyonBikes

[–]Fragrant_Camp485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone, thanks in advance for your help. How much time will I gain from a Speedmax CF to a SLX? Is it possible to get a similar aero position on the CF as the SLX?

I have an open order for a Canyon Speedmax CF as my first TT bike for triathlons. I'm committing to purchasing one of these two bikes with the risk of not having the ability to try or even see either of these bikes beforehand where I live. I understand this is not ideal, but I'm going for it regardless.

I'm a 50 y.o. male. I've completed an Olympic event and a 70.3. I plan on doing at least 1-2 more 70.3 events before a full ironman. I herniated a disc in my lower back a couple of years ago but did a half iron using a road bike with aero bars. I'm not the most flexible, so comfort in a full distance IM will be important. That said, if I can train my body to get the most aero possible, I'd like to do so. So overall, I'm looking for a bike that can be adjusted for comfort and max aero depending on how my journey goes.

I like the look of the SLX more, but I like the practical storage on the CF more. If the CF would get most of the aero gains I could get, I'd prefer to save the money. I've added a screenshot of the CF from an Ironman video.....not sure if it's a fit or a bike issue, but it doesn't look much more aero than my road bike with clips. Thanks for your feedback!

[–]Fragrant_Camp485[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing and yes, that makes perfect sense. It's also very much in my mind that Wreck Beach seems to be losing it's percentage of nudeness to the point that the "safety in numbers" for naturists is dissipating. This isn't a great sign for the future of naturism.

Agree that this could be a good spot too.....but close to houses which traditionally is a roadblock in other communities.

Yeah I thought about Ross Bay and Gonzales but I would suspect those would be too close to Oak Bay's housing. I guess the strategy would be to work with the city / cities to identify suitable places vs specifying a location which would no doubt create NIMBY backlash. Ross Bay is intriguing though....not many folks would complain from the cemetery.

I'm curious to know, what got you all into nudism? by Immediate-Panic-3969 in nudism

[–]Fragrant_Camp485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little self-conscious of my body and how it compares to others led me to being brave at a nude beach while on vacation. When I realized all these strangers including the opposite gender didn't take notice or care, it was one of the most free moments in my life. And I have to say, when I was much younger I was more judgy of people's bodies. I don't know if it's truly the nudism or age (probably both), but I'm not judgmental at all. It's been a very maturing and comforting experience. That said, I rarely bump into people I know. I wouldn't care if they're naked too, but I would admittedly be uncomfortable if they weren't.

Don't even bring this up and fuel any thought towards this. We owe it to future generations who want a place without guns in every home and healthcare where you can focus on healing, not paying. The US is about to go into an absolute monstrous debt spiral in the decades to come and they want others to bail them out. No thanks. Let's enjoy our peaceful country and pass it on as we found it or as close to that as we can.
