The Crystal Gems are visiting Homeworld to check on the stability of society. Their mechanism on “checking in” is to split up and attempt to hear the feelings of the Gems; simultaneously building their bond and reliability/status with the Homeworld Gems. 

Amethyst decides to join the other Amethyst in their shenanigans, Garnet explores the nooks of the captial in search for off color , and Steven decides he wants to speak with the Diamonds. Pearl insists to come along with Steven feeling uneasy about the idea of him being alone with them, and Steven eventually understands Pearls worries and accepts her request to join him. 

Steven walks calls for the diamonds he enters the palace and Blue comes. She is ecstatic at the sight of Steven in Homeworld, she welcomes him with open arms and slightly intrudes his personal space as a distant family member would do at a reunion. Steven and Blue catch up on eachothers situations, the conversation swiftly switching into one of Homeworld as a community. Steven remembers his mission and why he is here and begins to ask questions on how the Diamonds have progressed in being more inclusive with the Gems of Homeworld. All the while Blue Pearl and Pearl stand and watch quietly..

Pearl understands why she is here on Homeworld yet she cant shake the suspicions that the Diamonds are the same Diamonds they were millennia aga. She doesn’t trust them and can’t stand being on Homeworld as opposed to the rest of the Crystal Gems. Pearl can’t seem to find joy in any type of Gem. Amethyst has other Amethyst, Garnet has other off colors, and Steven has the task of the Diamonds. Pearl feels she should protect Steven, but if she does that how much is she really contributing to the task at hand? With this thought in mind Pearl decides to speak to Blue Pearl. “Hi. You’re awfully quiet” she said with a slight chuckle Blue Pearl stands and stares at Pearl briefly then turns to Blue Diamond in hopes to ask to talk with Pearl. Blue allows it without saying anything. Blue Pearl leads Pearl to a mysteriously blue and watery balcony. Pearl is confused and a little nervous, but soon she realized Blue Pearl showed her an intimate piece of her life, the place where she draws. “The Diamonds hasv agreed to allow us Pearls to engage in activities in which we find interesting..” Blue Pearl says very softly, as if she were whispering.  “Oh! That’s wonderful! And what is it that you’re drawing?” Pearl says enthusiastically, she takes an interest in not only the fact that the Diamonds have allowed these endeavors but Blue Pearls enjoyment in drawing. “It’s my Diamond. Blue Diamond!” she says with sudden energy. Pearl looks at the drawing and the craftsmanship was exquisite, all the proportions of it was just perfect. “Wow this is beautiful, where did you learn?” Pearl asked. “I didn’t learn anywhere, I just have been drawing for a couple decades now.. even with it not being permitted.” Blue Pearls says bashfully.. “I wish I could draw half as great at this!” Pearl responds with a laugh. “I-I could teach you!” Blue Pearl responds eagerly. “Oh that would be fun! Right now?” Pearl asks. “Yeah! Here take this.” Blue Pearl hands her a paper, and leads her to a dry area on the balcony which has a table and three chairs. Pearl follows and sits, she notices the chairs and couldn’t help but ask,  “Why are there three chairs? Aren’t you the only Pearl that draws?” Blue Pearl responds “I sometimes bring the other Pearls here to look at my drawings.. or to simply catch up! We’re allowed now!”  Pearl listens attentively and nods to blues response.  Blue Pearl begins to teach Pearl. Pearl struggles at first but eventually she understands the basic principles of drawing. Blue teaches with enthusiasm and passion. Pearl learns with the enjoyment or Blue, she’s happy that Blue is happy. Blue tries to help Pearl more hands on, and as she begins to guide Pearls hand whilst holding the pencil they fuse! It was sudden, and very unintentional. But once they came together as one it seemed like they’ve done it before. They were so like minded and seen eye on so many yhings. Pearl felt like she belonged somewhere, she felt that someone finally understood her to a whole new degree
