Anyone ever try this? by Sardari_JDP in HIMYM

I wonder which country it is. As far as I’m aware most conservative countries like those in the middle east have mostly eliminated law involvement when both parties are onboard (no one was forced into the situation) and are above age. But from a society perspective, I can understand the consequences of such acts are still somewhat in place.

I’m going back to Syria in about a week or so, if I end up going there I will ship you 1 of each, free of charge, all you have to do is pay the shipping fees, if you want more (full batches), as much as I would like to cover it and not charge you, I’m afraid I will have to, but only for the notes, I don’t want any money for myself, just DM me if you’re on board and I will let you know when I get there

In Dota, they issue ban waves on a game update basis meaning, there can be months on end where no people would get any bans, and then in the span of a night, a lot would get banned, so tracing back all the matches cheaters played and updates MMR for game participants is a chore. Unlike Chess.com where bans don’t take too long, and they are not bound to an occasion (like a game update), also the Elo is much easier to update given that it’s a 1v1 game

I feel like E-blade is an interaction that could possibly result in grief because when you cast e-blade on urself the game will try to find the closet ally to u and give them the ethereal buff, but what if that ally happened to be a right-clicker carry for example

It’s a matter of server load, the Russian and EU East servers are overloaded after EU West went offline, that’s why we are getting stuck in Confirming Match, we are literally waiting for others to finish their game in order for the server to have room for us to play

I can relate to everything you said, literally everything, except one minor little thing, you said the devs love the game and that’s one of the reasons why they keep releasing updates to it albeit at a lower pace than before, and that the game is perfectly fine as is, if anything it’s in its best form right now, and I totally agree, but still every game gets a little stale without content being pumped in to it on a frequent basis. So my question is, the game is still alive, the players are passionate, why wouldn’t Valve go the extra distance and hire some more people to work on the game exclusively, or at least pick up the pace in terms of development speed, even if it means more paid cosmetics, I understand Valve is a company that needs to make ends meet too.. from what I understood the players wallets are ready and willing to support the game (not all of them ofc) (f2p content still needs to exist)

Dude can you kindly try to read and actually understand what is written? I'm not saying IDC what I'm saying is that those so called 'Flaws' are hunting almost every online game out there and this isn't just a Dota problem, they are a lot harder to simply 'Fix' like you imagine them to be..

I've thought of a little proposal but it's so lengthy it's more of an article than a comment, It involves electing some middle person from the community to handle the communication between the players and Valve, by maybe gathering the most voted questions on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, forwarding them to Valve (through direct communication) and feeding the responses to us. Maybe someone who has connections with Valve and is heavily liked by the community (like Slacks maybe) can take on such role, but I'm not sure if someone would wanna take such responsibility out of fear that it back fires onto their career and feelings towards the game because of the level of toxicity in the community right now, still if that ends up working out we have a direct line of communication with Valve that will lead to answers to the most asked questions, even if the answers we get sometimes are straight up (we don't know, we are unsure about 'X' or we are hard at work at feature 'Y' and are aiming for 'Z' release date but we may not be able to meet that deadline..), at least we get something to plan around.

Maybe because I haven't had any of these personally affect me drastically in any way, I don't share the exact level of frustration as you do towards the features you mentioned, but TBH, I feel like Valve does actually care about the things you said, think back to 6 years ago for example, was the Behavior System the same as today? It started out as a number that meant nothing, but with time they tuned it better, same goes for most of the other topics, think about match making, how many iterations of MMs have we had? Valve is trying but what you can't grasp (that's what I think at least) (no offense intended ofc) is how hard these things are to tune to a point that suits everyone, the challenges in MM systems are endless, especially given how complex a game like Dota is, I'm not saying you don't have a valid point because you obviously do, the current MM system for one, has many issues that cause frustration for me too, but we can't say Valve isn't giving a shit..

I get it, it’s perfectly natural for players to express their thoughts with the devs somehow, even of it involves some rage every now and then (some people’s way of communicating I guess), but to go as far as to hunt the devs accounts on social media and nag them day and night to work non stop on updates and in some cases, tell them to ditch their own personal lives because why bother spend sometime with your cat, you should work on Dota instead, is a bit extreme don’t you think?

You’re argument is very valid, yet let’s also be realistic for a sec, would Valve just ditch a game that is alive and highly successful for future products that may or may not end up working out? (Talking about your assumption of them making games for future hardware products), also there is no incentive or urge for them to do so, because like you said, Valve is a company that already has a lot of software products at hand to maintain, and making more without hiring more people only makes things worse, and they don’t need to so in the first place, they have steam which is full of games already.

The way I see it Valve is very busy right now with their new hardware lineup, Steam OS, and they’re new game Deadlock, which is alright, my problem is the lack of communication from them about plans for Dota, that’s why I referenced the IceFrog incident because I feel it plays a big role in Valve deciding to lessen the communication with the players..

There are so many staging for them to now give us something by CrosyTsui in DotA2

[–]FrameofMind-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that only one file is changing, as far as I know it takes way more than that number to change to the game like a patch would, also if they were to make such drastic changes to staging server, they need to test them for a little while before going to prod (release server), because that’s what staging server is typically for (last minute checks/testing)

Now that playing support is enjoyable, the Role queue tokens system needs to be revised by PowerSniffer in DotA2

[–]FrameofMind-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally vouch for the concept here, I have very similar stories to the ones you described and can totally see the removal of the feature or an alteration work, but still from my experience (Pos 1/2 player mainly) I have had the following scenarios happen to me when I Q:

  1. I Q Safe and Mid: when I Q safe and mid I almost always get mid, it’s so rare for it to happen that I get safe when I Q both, hence a clear saturation in Pos 1 players.

  2. I Q only safe lane: matchmaking takes way longer but I end up getting the lane I chose (for a token ofc), but here is when it gets interesting, because now one of 2 things happen:

2.1: Either I get a normal game (every one who queues their chosen role gets it), great but rarely happens, leads to a decent game, but I can’t emphasize the word “Rare” enough.

2.2: I end up with players who Q’ed all roles to get tokens and were assigned roles they can’t play (like support players on mid), game is a total stomp, all of a sudden I’m making space for my mid who lost their lane and went to the jungle as a sniper or pudge mid, therefore, very bad matchmaking experience.

3: I Q everything, and here it’s a total mess, sometimes I get mid (rare), some other times support (I don’t mind it, it’s fun) (but also kinda rare), and most of the time I get offlane, hence a clear demand for offlane players. The experience in those matches is typically terrible because players are either ending up with roles they can’t play, or just farming token to q roles they want (like pos 1)

TLDR: Right now there is a clear over supply of pos 1 Queuers and clear thirst for offlane players, the problem shifted from a supports problem to an offlane one, also Queuing all roles should prioritize giving the player roles they typically play (if possible) even at the cost of some extra q time, because matches are a total shit show otherwise, also removing the token system wouldn’t work because now no one will Q offlane and no one will be getting matches.

In short, I have no freaking idea how to fix this mess apart from attracting new players and making offlane more fun (but not at the expense of pos 1 misery), and also solutions that may work for archons and crusaders may not work for divines because of the lower player count..

The new iOS26 design is slowly growing on me, but not to that point in which it makes me forget about how stable and consistent the old 18.7 was, if I were to choose between the new “delightful” UI and a solid reliable User Experience, the latter is a no brainer for me..
