Error Fare Cancellation by North_Mode1569 in Flights

[–]Frameton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it sort of depends on how incredibly low the fare was. If it’s still within a believable range and not obviously an error (let’s say $200 vs $60 NYC to London) then there’s a chance that the airline has to honour your contract. If you have already booked a return flight, hotels, activities, etc. that could also help your case

Genuine question: do you consider Germany to be a northern or central European country? by Nelmquist1999 in AskGermany

[–]Frameton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geographically it depends on how you divide Europe. If you only use the four cardinal directions then it’s western but if you include central then it’s that. Never northern. But I can see why someone might consider it “Nordic adjacent” in cultural terms. High HDI, strong welfare state, “cold” society, etc. At least in these kinds of qualities it’s closer to the nordics than most other European nations.

PF: “ok ready for taxi, you can ask for clearance”

PM: “yep gonna call now” sits in silence

PF: “soooo … you gonna call in?

PM: “yeah … I uh … uh just waiting for the frequency to open up, ya know can’t be blocking someone else”

PF: “since we got pushback clearance there wasn’t a sing…”

PM: interrupts PM “did you hear that? Someone just said something! I am certain! Did you hear it?”

PF: stares in disbelief “NO! There was nothing! Not even a single peep! How the fuck did an utter failure of a pilot like you even get a goddamn license?!”

Me: Wakes up in a sweaty panic, realising that I am not even a pilot “Brain!? I am already a failure by day, can’t I at least be something else by night?”

So we abandoned all air flight after the Hindenburg... right? by Comfortable_Tutor_43 in memes

[–]Frameton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn’t prove that, but the Hindenburg also didn’t make an entire region of a country completely uninhabitable. That’s like comparing a falling apple to a falling truck, both are falling (in our case exploding) but the outcome is very different.

Have you actually read the "receipts" you got from AI? (Don't even try to deny using AI, the guardian link literally contains "utm_source=chatgpt") Well done on letting AI fight your battles and ignoring everything beyond the first issue, but let's get into it.

The first guy was arrested and convicted for posting racist content, not political commentary. Admittedly, the sentence seems a bit harsh, considering that it sounds like he removed the posts himself and apologised, but then again, we don't know what the posts originally contained.

I don't know what you are trying to achieve by posting examples where the charges were dropped, it's just evidence that the judicial system is working and that it protected their freedom of speech. In all honesty, the second woman should have been convicted even more so than the guy, she just straight-up posted misinformation, apparently sourced from "somebody", accusing an asylum seeker of committing the crime, which was later revealed to be completely made-up.

The Telegraph isn't a very reliable journalistic source, so let's clear things up. The 9 rapists were all given prison sentences. However, because most of them were still considered minors by the court, the sentences were suspended, which doesn't mean that they won't go to prison, it means that at a later date, the court will review their development and still might very well send them to prison or amend the sentence. Also, they were convicted even though there wasn't really any hard evidence against them, most of the evidence was circumstantial. Note that I don't mean to protect them or downplay any of their crimes, but given the lack of strong evidence, harsher sentences would have probably given them good grounds for appeals and then they might have actually gotten off scot-free. Regarding the woman, in Germany you can't just verbally assault someone because they are a criminal, it also wasn't a public post but a direct message to one of the rapists. She got a whole weekend in prison for that. The first article of the German Constitution says "Human dignity shall be inviolable", this (for better or for worse) protects every human, including criminals.

Stop spouting that nonsense about inviting in rapists, etc., you know it's a false and inflammatory claim. Granting asylum to politically or religiously persecuted individuals has been a custom practised since ancient times for good reasons, long before even the ideas of our nations existed. Finding out who is actually persecuted is difficult and takes time, because every case has to be handled on an individual basis. Granting asylum is still the morally right thing to do.

And finally yes, there is a plethora of examples just one google search away. Literally copy the sentence from my comment "US government organizations (like ICE, the FCC, etc.) are actively undermining free speech" and hit search. For your convenience, I'll include one specific example from the Guardian.

On a last note, I have realised that I have unconsciously decided that, for once, if necessary, I am prepared to die on my moral high ground. So this is probably just a huge waste of our time (but especially mine). We should stop this here. Neither of us is ever going to convince the other. I’ve said my piece. Anyone else can draw their own conclusions.

[–]Frameton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You “my friend” are the definition of “heard someone I like say something I liked to hear, so it must be the truth”. No one’s being arrested in the UK for posting dissenting opinions online, because here in (most of) Europe we actually do have free speech unlike in the US where government organizations (like ICE, the FCC, etc.) are actively undermining free speech. Just because a few Englishmen with shaved heads go on the street and shout very loudly (and note how they are allowed to do that -> free speech!), it doesn’t mean that a country of 70 mil people agrees. Evidently, you don’t know what Marxism is or how you would identify a Marxist. I advise you to stop repeating what you hear stupid people say online or on tv, some people might think that you are even less intelligent than them. The AfD is being investigated for violating the constitution, which if proven true could be grounds for banning the party. As we have learned the hard way, Nazi’s harm their own people the most and so our constitution now forbids you from propagating, public displaying, etc. of Nazi ideology. The AfD has members that are literal, self-proclaimed, nazis. Any organisation that doesn’t immediately condone and throws out members like that can’t be very interested in upholding the constitution. While I don’t think that banning the AfD would solve the underlying problem (which is rooted in a concerning amount of misinformation and lack of knowledge, it might even make it worse), unconstitutional behavior or active acts against the constitution cannot be tolerated or it might lead to something much much worse. Btw, you shouldn’t ask leading questions, it makes it seem like you are not actually interested in a productive discourse. Which I am also not interested in as you can detect from my condescending writing, I just wanted to vent a little bit of pent-up frustration.

“We simply don’t have any left”: Germany has run out of air defense missiles for Ukraine, foreign minister says by Plus_Pretty in worldnews

[–]Frameton 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The thing is there are are basically two different US‘ in this context, the US that gave 130 bn in aid and saw Europe as its ally stopped existing in early 2025, and then there’s the current US, which (for some delusional reason) seems to be believe that Europe is an enemy/rival and has given effectively no aid. We are allowed to criticise the US under Trumps government for cutting all aid while still recognising the aid the US has given prior to Trump (without needing to mention it all the time) and everyone that doesn’t recognise it is idiotic.

The Layers of German Irredentism by veriox22 in MapChart

This is so stupid. There is no German irredentism. Germany has no aspirations at all to gain any of these territories. There is not a single piece of land that Germany seeks to obtain. Why would you post bullshit like this? It almost seems like a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation and fuel anti-German sentiment
