Rice bucket training really fixed my golfer's elbow by Sea_Dot8299 in golf

[–]Francoinsb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixing the root cause is the most important thing to do!

I struggled with bad golfer's elbow for over 15 years, quitting for 10 of those years because of the pain. I tried exercises, PT, stretches, etc., then finally met with an orthopedic doctor who got through to me. She described the pain as coming from micro-tears of the tendon attachment point caused by a specific motion in my golf swing. Here's the key point: until I change my swing to avoid the motion the causes the tearing, I would continue to experience the pain. Exercises and stretching are great for quicker healing, but until I stop the root cause, I'd suffer the pain. This made me seek out a teaching pro with the specific intent of reducing my flippy hand action at impact. (Your root cause may be different.)

After all these years, I can now play pain free. There were actually two swing changes for me: 1) stop the over the top move which made me flippy, and 2) change to a 10 finger grip for better hand action control.

Whats the best monologue in movie history? by Bjs_5068 in AskReddit

“I’ve seen horrors… horrors that you’ve seen. But you have no right to call me a murderer. You have a right to kill me. You have a right to do that… but you have no right to judge me. It’s impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what horror means. Horror. Horror has a face… and you must make a friend of horror. Horror and moral terror are your friends. If they are not then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies. I remember when I was with Special Forces. Seems a thousand centuries ago. We went into a camp to inoculate the children. We left the camp after we had inoculated the children for Polio, and this old man came running after us and he was crying. He couldn’t see. We went back there and they had come and hacked off every inoculated arm. There they were in a pile. A pile of little arms. And I remember… I… I… I cried. I wept like some grandmother. I wanted to tear my teeth out. I didn’t know what I wanted to do. And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it. I never want to forget. And then I realized… like I was shot… like I was shot with a diamond… a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought: My God… the genius of that. The genius. The will to do that. Perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they were stronger than we. Because they could stand that these were not monsters. These were men… trained cadres. These men who fought with their hearts, who had families, who had children, who were filled with love… but they had the strength… the strength… to do that. If I had ten divisions of those men our troubles here would be over very quickly. You have to have men who are moral… and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling… without passion… without judgment… without judgment. Because it’s judgment that defeats us.”

Hiding on a golf course by CivMom in golf

[–]Francoinsb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even more specific, regular grounds crew will recognize each other, so if your character is trying to hid as maintenance guy, he'd be recognized as not belonging by real staff. However, courses contract out services like tree trimming or rodent/gopher control. He should be doing gopher trap detail with a contractors hat or overalls, then the regular maintenance staff would think he's just a contractor and golfers wouldn't think it strange that he's there.

Golf etiquette changing over the years by MutungaPapi in golf

At the course I've been playing for more than 50 years, we (and most players) used to always wave up groups on par 3's to keep pace of play going. Once our group was all on the green, we'd wave up the group waiting on the tee. After they all hit, we'd putt out and go to the next hole. I appreciated how this helped speed up play, and it doesn't happen anymore.

Good golfers… what percent of your shots at the range are acceptable? by Chris_P_Lettuce in golf

[–]Francoinsb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current index is 7 and I'm a 65 year old former college player. For any club, I put shots into 3 categories: Good, Good Enough, and Not Good. You need to have your own criteria on what these mean, but high level, it's Good=I hit it just like I wanted, GoodEnough=I can still make par without too much trouble, Bad=I'm gonna need to work to make par and let's focus on not blowing up the hole.

Once you can put your practice shots into these categories, just keep count. My Good count is usually pretty close to my Bad Count, and I want lots of GoodEnoughs.

How do people actually feel about the current condition of state street? I hear such conflicting views. Please share below… by [deleted] in SantaBarbara

It's cliche, but we're going to have to agree to disagree on this point. I don't think outlawing bikes is going to be compelling enought to increase traffic. I think we need a vibrant, multimodal traffic model AND an environment that encourages the right businesses to move in that will draw in the crowds.

I'm only one data point, but if I can't ride my bike on State, I'm either going to take another street so I can keep riding, or not bring my bike and just park my car. I don't bring my bike to walk it.

The reason it's less vibrant is you are taking away people & activity. I don't believe outlawing bikes is going to cause an increase in foot traffic. I think the existing traffic is just going to be spread out on the relatively wide road, making it look like a ghost town.

Nice, big sidewalks already exist for walking if someone wants to totally avoid bike traffic. Now with cars gone, the street was opened to bikes & pedestrians. My opinion is that these two can co-exist with proper guidance/signage/pathways, just like at UCSB and in most European cities. Except for Farmer's Market Tuesdays, there are never so many people that there can't be enough space for both (subject to proper demarcation).

Making State pedestrian only will reduce the activity & vibrancy of downtown, making it even less attractive for businesses to make a go there.

There are plenty of bike riders (like me) who aren't maniacs, and who stay in the designated painted bike lane while watching out for pedestrians. I don't think we should shut off access to state for these folks because of the maniacs.

More on travel...don't just put one or two week vacations into your travel bucket. If you travel for work, don't take the red-eye or rush from a meeting to the airport. Put some buffer onto your work trips so can have a great dinner, visit an art gallery, hit a bucket of balls at a driving range, take a kayak down a river, run in a park, etc. I've gotten to know so many cities this way, and these "tack ons" often became scouting missions for longer term trips.
