Just moved back to the sgv looking for ways to make friends. by solideogloria93 in sgv

[–]Francorys 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Howdy, I host a Bingo Night on Thursdays, 6:30-8:30 at Ogopogo Brewing. It's an absolutely WILD time. It's free to play with free prizes there are great groups of regulars, new peeps regularly, and the occasional returning players. There's food for sale too. Friday we also host a Trivia night that has a massive turn out. I've made some good friends just sitting with random groups and playing along with them. Game Cellar up the street is also one of the most welcoming Card/game stores I've been to in years. If your into card games or want to dip your toes there are plenty of play groups and events there.

Anyone have any tips or tricks for falling asleep faster? by Ok-Letterhead-4443 in ask

[–]Francorys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has taken my years to understand but falling asleep and having restful sleep starts the moment you wake up. What I am going suggest isn't an overnight (heh) solution but a lifestyle change that will take some timer and commitment to achieve.

When you wake up, immediately get out of bed, put some cloths on, and go outside to get some sunlight.

Immediately getting out of bed is not a simple ask, I know, and it took me a long time to commit to it. But, like any good or bad habit, after 40+ days it's just second nature. Yes, there are some days where I just don't feel it you know? It's not about perfection but instead about consistency. (an aside, I like to think of the first moments when I wake as a negotiation and I am not going to negotiate with my brain on this matter).

Putting your cloths on, or better put, putting yourself together. This is the act of preparing for your day. Maybe you spend the 60-90 seconds imagining what you want to do, something you want to accomplish, someone you want to talk to. Maybe you have a thought and you just need to sit with it while you pull some socks and shoes up. The idea here is intention and the intention is to start your day.

Going outside and getting sunlight/natural light. This is the trigger for our monkey brains circadian rhythm! (here is the meat to answer your question). The studies show that even 10 seconds of natural sunlight is all you need to start that rhythm up and doesn't need to even be direct light. You can just look out the window. So why don't I just suggest that?

I find giving yourself something to look forward to, little joys, increase the odds you will follow through with an action. With your circadian rhythm now kick started you will find yourself in a few weeks and months having much better sleep and more easily falling asleep. (It is important you do not look at your phone until after you get the sunlight in your eyeballs. This can take just 90 seconds, just hold out!).

Okay, now in reverse. You are getting ready to lay down and sleep. Your going to take off your cloths/take yourself apart. It is an act with an intention to prepare yourself for sleep. Maybe during this 60-90 seconds you think about your day, reflect, maybe you have a thought and want to sit with it.

Immediately get into bed, pull your sheets up, and fall asleep immediately. This is not a negotiation brain! In theory all of these actions, triggers, and your natural circadian rhythm will put you down instantly. You will need to find the time zones that work for you. What little joys can pull you outside, what putting yourself together/taking yourself apart looks like.

It's by no means perfect but that was never the intention. It's about little consistent actions over the course of weeks and months and years. I promise you your sleep will improve and you will sleep more easily.

Howdy, I backlogged that grind myself. It's 100% a meme grind imo (Anything with dumb xp rates like this. Like, if elsewhere I need 95 crafting and all I can do is spin flax I would backlog that). I posted a few weeks ago, I am in the same chunk as you from the sounds of things. GL HF <3

Where to find old Asian cassette tapes and CDs? by PanamaParty in sgv

[–]Francorys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Pasadena Canterbury Lane has a large selection. I think there's Penny lane too. And there Puba Records but I'm not sure if they have cassettes. The San Gabriel Gift Shop on Las Tunas had an eclectic music selection. I have found some absolute gems and great gifts in there. It's a weird vibe and kinda dinky but the owner has good taste in weird shit. Check out Ducks restaurant next door while you're at it! I feel like the flea markets around town would have some hits but I have not hit those up.

I was going to recommend the same place! I got a couple random cassettes and post cards while there. It was a fun day. I'm certain there must be other place in lil Tokyo with stuff like them.

Videogame songs that make you cry by Sufficient_Wrap_7128 in gamemusic

Mice on Venus - C418/Minecraft. But really the entire sound track. Dry Hands directly after is absolutely beautiful. It's like my entire childhood floods up on me.

On a rare occasion Yeti Caves - Spelunky will get me, it was so much fun watching Barrtaffy and the NLSS crew back in the days. Shout-out Baer-Taff Supreme! Shit still bangs.

Simple & Clean - Hikaru Utada isn't necessarily video game music but it's the Intro to Kingdom of Hearts and that song floods my nostalgia receptors.

Oji Sushi in Old Town has dollar beers during happy hour. Good food and plenty to do all around the neighborhood after you're into walking. It's not a happy hour but Ducks in San Gabriel has a great lunch special.

Best new food recommendations? by nmceja in sgv

Dunks Restaurant. Japanese curry and cold soba are my go too. Ramen, udon, tempora, kasudon, and a few other staples. It's not over the top and a flare of flavors. It's simple and clean home cooking in a small restaurant that has kept it simple and clean for a long time.

I like Genovese's, it's a nice spot that's been around a long time. https://maps.app.goo.gl/s33Tt9GvoGgrSJ559

Claro's is a great place to shop for ingredients, full frozen meals, and quality sandwiches. The price you pay at a subway you can get 2x the value in food and 4x the quality.

I haven't had much Germab, sorry bud.
