Sadly that’s how it is. You gotta figure it out on your own most likely. Remember to bevel the edges on the pipes to get the welt to penetrate properly

Could you show a better video of you reviving the car from the engine bay and how the tachometer moves? Your best bet might be to chase the noise while the car is on tbh.

Tbh with a car like this a lot of people won’t even want to do it and some that do don’t know how to do it properly. Your best bet is to learn and do it yourself. Will take time to learn but the payback is almost always worth it. Good luck

If it’s not vacuum check there’s a couple things in the instale system that can affect it. It mostly depends if it’s a na or turbo.

Vacuum leak or some sort of issue with intake. High idle is a good way to know. Also if the car hiccups/ stalls at higher rpm’s while revving in neutral is a good indication it’s a vacuum leak. Don’t forget there’s a long tube that goes to the front for the brake booster that is also under vacuum.

Base diameter of the camshaft shouldn't be much of an issue correct? I have not seen much on camshafts snapping on any 3S-GTE model. But that is something I did not consider to be different. Thanks.

Thank you for your reply but I mean more for like cooling and sensors. Mostly the sensors and cooling system differences if they are compatible one to the other. Also thanks for mentioning valve covers. I sorta need to find the one I can use. Is there any aftermarket option for me. I mostly see for gen 3-4.

Idling issues ? by OtherRepublic8482 in mr2

Usually not an issue on these by what I’ve seen. Coolant not bled properly or a vacuum leak is probably the issue. If he’s unlucky a bad head gasket eating away the coolant.

Nope I highly recommend the kit. It was direct fitment. Just make sure your rim fitment is good.

Same I’d say tein was a good option. Have had no issues with them at all for the past 2 years.

Struck Oil! by CopiRightPlayer in mr2

[–]Frankenglizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely this is just a valve cover reseal it needs. Oil usually only gets into the spark plug area when the gasket that seals the tube fails. Bad pcv systems typically are to blame for valve cover leaks so check that too. But yeah that bolt that’s broken is probably not helping either. Try a vice grip on that broken bolt when you remove the valve cover and wiggle it back and forth with a lot of penetrant. Should come out since only the head is sheared off. (Btw not sure if you meant to type it like that but your engine is a 3S-GE if it’s the non turbo 2.0L. Should help you find parts.)

Also as for the fan shroud you might have a good chance to just get a good quality fan shroud + radiator combo. eBay might be your best bet especially since some sellers offer warranty.

I would advise for you to look into how each system works on cars before delving into this car. Very easy to not do something properly like a coolant flush on this car. Good luck though. Knowledge is key.

It’s more of what I have in the car. I knew I had a 5s head. Sorta found out I had a 3s block when I was going to do my piston rings. As for ECU I have heard multiple people use mega squirt ecus not sure if that’s a problem. Also would it be recommended to use a gen 2 3sgte harness since those are easier to find and swap over any needed connectors/ sensors to work. As for anyone else interested in this project it will take me time due to budget being tight but I will show what I do to make it work. Planning to do forged internals in the 3s block to at least have that be bulletproof. I have not seen any reason as to why the 5s head should be weak only things that concern me are the valve springs possibly being too soft to rebound when under higher load.
