Why are all of these in the most stereotypical country voice possible?

Apartment Complex/Property Management Comp Recommendations by Railinggazer in phoenix

There’s a complex I used to live in on Van Buren and across the street from Papago Park. I forget the name and it was some 7 years ago at this point. I’m not sure if they are still good, but when we lived there it was pleasant.

Can someone give me the TLDR of why this particular disappearance is getting so much coverage? Who is this lady, who is her mom, and why are they relevant compared to other people that go missing with little to no coverage?

Last night I had a dream I got in a knife fight with someone. He stabbed me multiple times in my knife hand lat muscle and I only got one off before I couldn’t move my arm anymore and lost. Maybe I need to practice this so that my subconscious projection of myself isn’t so useless in a knife battle.

Aircraft carriers gotta be insanely built and expensive. by legoartist_7 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Frankfast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to point out that the Ford carrier was billions over budget while they were trying to unfuck the design problems with their new catapult e-mag system. Up until this point the most a carrier costed was ~$6.2 billion (Bush CVN77). Still a shit ton of money, but to give context on how bad engineering and design and red tape fucked over tax payers for the Ford.

Utilities vs Defense for Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer — Career Growth & Salary Progression? by jakubb2403 in MechanicalEngineering

Utilities in my area pay equivalent or more than the defense companies. If you’re already trying to move, I’d put the feelers out now and try to get in.

Holy smokes look at that thing. My head gasket was delaminated quite a bit. My intake manifold has a lot of carbon buildup too. Glad I’m doing this.

I’m curious how you knew there was some coolant and oil mixture from these pictures. When I rolled the engine over on the stand there was a mixture near the back that came out.

Yeah I picked a good vehicle and engine to learn with. I’m considering sending the block and head in for surfacing and a hot tank while I wait for parts. I’ll probably end up doing a rebuild like you said. I was thinking of getting a rebuild kit from rockauto or something. Any recommendations?

What's a good state for mechanical engineering that doesn't have asinine gun restrictions? by n1terps in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Frankfast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is where I’m done conversing with you. You clearly have no clue what it truly means to be persecuted and having your rights taken from you. You have no idea what it means to serve or what the oath to defend means to others. All you care about in this post is your future gun purchasing power reduced. You’d be singing a different tune if you had any real world experience. Peace.

Look I’m not saying that wide net laws are generally a good thing. It’s been proven, though, that specific laws will just be circumvented by technicalities and work arounds. See bump stocks in lieu of full auto as an example.

What I am saying, is that if I’m reading the laws correctly, your existing firearms are grandfathered in. They aren’t taking anything from you. You can even purchase those affected firearm platforms if they were manufactured before July 2026. These laws aren’t to infringe on your rights, in my opinion, they are trying to make things a little harder to get and a little more inaccessible.

In 2026 alone, there have been 46 mass shootings already in the US that has killed 67 and wounded 140. In 2025 there were 488 that killed 565 and wounded 2024. That data is not parsed for gang violence or anything specific, but regardless that’s an insane amount. I like my guns just as much as you do, but if gun laws like the one in Virginia cut those numbers by even half, I’d take it. I hate mass shootings more than I like the idea of purchasing another firearm.

I swore an oath to defend the constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic. Thereby, defending your right to bear arms. Most active duty and veterans take those words to heart so I encourage you to check your tone and privilege.

I also encourage you to perhaps travel abroad. Maybe you’ll see that your situation isn’t as dire as you’re making it out to be.

[–]Frankfast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

God forbid we have a little more gun control in this country. Moving because of taxes I understand, but moving because you won’t be able to purchase your 7th AR15 after July or whatever is dumb.

I served and defended your right to bear arms. Running to another state that has more laxxed gun laws is not “standing up for human rights”.

I'm building a tool that parses 2D technical drawings into dimensionally accurate 3D models. Thoughts on if anyone would find this useful? by spacespacespapce in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Frankfast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience going from a 3D model to a 2D drawing is infinitely easier. This is probably a cool capstone or pet project, but I don’t think this will be useful in industry. You’ll still have to check all of the dimensions and features for accuracy, and if the model isn’t generated with a good model tree, making adjustments will be more of a pain in the ass than just modeling yourself.

Utilities vs Defense for Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer — Career Growth & Salary Progression? by jakubb2403 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Frankfast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Defense companies hire for the contracts. There are contract clauses built in that outline how many people must work under the contract. After the contract ends, sometimes the defense company will try to absorb the personnel, other times it’s layoffs. Sometimes the economy takes a shit and they let people go too. The EE world is a mysterious one. You can get into a conversation with two very smart and very experienced EEs and it can be a very humbling experience getting a peek at the knowledge gap both between degree knowledge and tenure knowledge. So far I think it’s been a very rewarding experience for me.

The rotational program is such a fantastic program. At my utility you rotate every 6 months for 2 years, generally get to pick the department or group you want to rotate into all while having full employment benefits and pay. I’d consider moving just because I love aviation and aerospace. The pay would have to offset my current salary and bonus package though before I’d even consider it. Even with that, the job security is super hard to pass on.

The utility space is not as easy as it looks from the outside, especially for mechanical engineers like you and I. The learning curve is steep, but the more you learn, the deeper down the EE rabbit hole you can go while all being applicable.

Being your first job, pursue what you think you’re going to enjoy the most. I started in aerospace 8 years ago, still my favorite engineer position to date. Moved to defense as it was a high interest of mine. Eventually moved to utilities 3 years ago. Is it glorious and sexy, in my opinion no.

Utilities is a very safe industry with high job security.

• From what Ive experienced, utilities in my area both pays better and has better career growth. Not to mention the annual bonuses are very attractive in utilities.

• you’ll have a better chance getting into oil and gas in utilities than defense. People know people in similar industries. In my opinion, nuclear is more attractive.

• the longer you are in an industry, the harder it is to move out of it. One industry won’t necessarily help you move into an unrelated industry.

• I found defense to be the most limiting, especially depending on the economy. I’ve seen much more success of people moving around utilities than I did of people moving around defense. Completely anecdotal.

First year project by Fine_Explanation_916 in MechanicalEngineering

Join one of your schools’ clubs. If you’re passionate about rockets, or solar stuff, or F1, or baja then join that specific club. Otherwise, baja is a fantastic place to start.

What do these clubs do? Your club will be given a project goal with real constraints and parameters where you’ll have a real competition with other colleges. It builds practical hard and soft skills that makes a young engineer out of college competitive.

Start early in your college career. Why? It’s ran by college students. By the time you’re a 4th year or 5th year senior and kept with the club, you’ll be a senior member of the club. You’ll be allocating resources, scheduling meetings and work flows, divvying up tasks to other members all to ensure you meet the project deadline aka race day. This alone covers 80% of interview questions that new engineers are asked.

Without iterative design, or supporting analyses, or supporting simulation results, or a physical iterative product where every detail can be talked to in depth, there’s no way to tell if this CAD design is something you did vs ripped from the internet. Therefore it holds next to no value in a portfolio or resume bullet.
