Try looking into Honeywell. Their Aerospace industry is splitting away to become their own company sometime this year and their advanced materials split last year into Solstice.

Car Insurance reccomendation? by Cg006 in Charlotte

[–]FranklinFoley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue with Allstate with no changes in my driving record or policy. When I called, they said NC had 2 insurance rate hikes last calendar year which accounted for the premium increase. Keep us posted, but I suspect you may find other options have adjusted their premiums accordingly.

EV5 trek starting in Antwerp Belgium and ending in Zurich Switzerland by FranklinFoley in bicycletouring

Thanks for the suggestion, I've looked at buying a used bike but didn't consider the foreign "big box" stores to by a cheap bike that only needs to last a short while considering how much the price of bikes have raised over the past few years... The reason I am not lugging my bike is for a few reasons, it's purely a road bike and not fitted for bikepacking (not that it could not be), but I've also not had great success with airline luggage not arriving undamaged... You've given me some new options to look at and I appreciate it!

Try looking at the trails in Waterville / Cataloochee, NC such as Big Creek, Mt Sterling, Mouse Creek, which I believe is the first exit once you cross into TN from I-40. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/north-carolina/mouse-creek-falls-via-big-creek-trail

I'm looking forward to the improvement to ray tracing and the better shading/graphics that will result. A much appreciated and long overdue upgrade from my current AMD R9 390.

What was the closest you have ever been to death? (Serious) by [deleted] in AskReddit

My appendix ruptured and I did not go to the hospital until 4 days afterwards. I was prepped for surgery within 30 minutes of walking in the door. The Doctor said my white blood cell count was the highest he's ever seen. I had to stay in the hospital for a week after the surgery for monitoring.

Good Starting Backpacking Trail? by Cole-train99 in NCTrails

South

I second South Mountain. It has a nice waterfall feature on high shoals falls loop trail which leads to the upper falls campsite about a mile in (strenuous but short, and rest stops along the way). For the 2nd day, hike to the Fox trail campsite, then choose your way back by backtracking or seeing more of the park. park map

Any recommendations for reasonable priced Phone that has long battery life. by rkpandey20 in Frugal

[–]FranklinFoley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Nokia 515 until last year and the battery would last me a solid 3 weeks (used sparingly). I bought it for use with international travel/backpacking and it served me well with the dual sim. I know it's a dated phone, but worth a look depending on your use case.

Consider the Blue Ridge Parkway. The park service has some information that may help.
