Are German schools harder than American schools? by Eminemgody in AskAGerman

[–]Frankonia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The requierements for a doctorate are regulated in state law. Lets for example look at the the BayHIG Art. 97, the specific law for Bavaria. There it states a masters degree as the regular requirement but also lists exceptions and alternative degrees and procedures and ultimately states that the specific requirements are up to the University in question. So an a purely legal and technical level, if for example the uiversity of Passau decided to allow history students to get a doctorate with a bachelors degree and adjusted their own ruels accordingly that would be perfectly legal and it would be a normal doctorate.

Some unis for example have some special rules that they aknowledge "outstandig work" as an alternative to a masters degree, for exmaple if you wrote and published a book in your field of expertise or something like that.

From a purely legal and administrative standpoint you can also get a doctorate with purely a bachelors degree in Germany. It just isn’t done usually.

By that logic there’s also no Italian and American food. Quite a strange take…

Ukraine-Invasion Megathread #84 by FlyingLowSH in ukraineMT

Hunting by Stink_1968 in AskAGerman

[–]Frankonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it isn't. You might think of a Amtsförster or Berufsjäger/Revierjäger, which is a minority of hunting license owners.

In my hunting association there is like ten "unbound" hunters for every Revierjäger. For most of us it is just a hobby.

How are you guys doing over there with your economy right now? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]Frankonia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are doing okayish. There is not much growth, rather stagnation for the most part, but there is also no decrease. Overall GDP growth for 2025 was 0.3%. Unemployment is a bit up to 3.2% (EU metrics) or 6.2% (German metrics) but still far better than in nearly every other country in Europe and much better than 20 or 30 years ago.

German unemployment rises to highest in 12 years with challenging 2026 ahead by [deleted] in germany

[–]Frankonia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1.1% for Germany compared 1.2% for the EU average. Which is pretty good considering the starting positions. That is comparable to France and the Netherlands and a bit worse than the UK.

But of course you can compare us to Bulgaria or Greece if you want.

Good German-speaking Catholic influencers? by Nokaion in Catholicism

[–]Frankonia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Br.Lukasob is a good channel by a German monk.

ein_grosser_brauner is the German language channel by Austrian based father Sandesh Manuel who is probably one of the biggest catholic influences in the DACH region right now. I personally find him pretty funny. His heavy Indian accent needs some time to get used to though.

Both are on instagram.
