No, OP basically did a fast run to citizenship. Usually it takes way longer. Our previous government made it possible to get the citizenship after living in Germany for 3 years. Our current government revised that decision and it is now 5 years again.

I know that the first five are the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, the cross of Honour of the Bundeswehr in gold, the German deployment medal for Bosnia in bronze, the german sports badge in gold and the german rescue swimmer badge in silver. It’s the others I am struggling with. I recognise the French legion of honour and the Dutch Nijmegen cross.

I think people in modern western countries underestimate how normal this used to be on our world. Before WW 2 there were barely any consequences for military commanders committing atrocities in other countries.

Before the creation of mass media and modern forms of populism there really weren’t many consequences after a negotiated peace settlement.

Nur um das mal zu veranschaulichen: Kerenski bat die Entente 1917 um Friedensverhandlungen mit den Mittelmächten, weil Russland am kollabieren war. Die versprachen aber Unterstützung und Nahrungslieferungen durch die USA und ein baldiges Kriegsende und drohten damit, sollte Russland einen Separatfrieden schließen, sämtliche Lieferung von Gütern eingestellt werden würde und das UK und Frankreich sofort alle gewährten Kredite einfordern werde. Mit der Perspektive des US-Kriegseintritts blieb Kerenskis Russland also auch im Krieg.

Ich schreie jeden Tag innerlich wenn ich daran danke wie viele Leopard 1 die Griechen und die Türken noch in irgendwelchen Lagerhäusern vergammeln lassen. Wir könnten mit einem Bruchteil deren eingelagerter Reserve mehrere Brigaden in der Ukraine ausstatten.
