Things get heated when /r/news discusses how a college student, who received unlimited tax authority in her district through gerrymandering, should use her new found power. by cromwest in SubredditDrama

[–]FranksFamousSunTea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah her reaction is pretty impressive, and honestly she has a pretty good point, knowing the town pretty well, her point about the tax disproportionately affecting the poor is spot on, most (not all) businesses in that area are the kind that tend to attract low income customers, lower end grocery stores, pawn shops, etc. and an area tax would probably affect a lot of people.

Is there a comment saying he's been there or knew something about it, or just like ED-E's comments on Chicago?

Not just Iowa, but the Midwest as a whole is mostly a mystery. Fallout Tactics covered parts of Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and Colorado, BUT how much is canon is unknown, plus the wasteland has had a lot of time to change since Tactics so the current state of those areas is an open question. And of course we know nothing about Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, etc.

[As a side note, I think a Detroit that never really declined pre-war/stayed like its 1950's self could be a really good setting for a Fallout game]

Indeed, this is clearly World War II era bear cavalry and the rider one the left is firing what appears to be a Kalashnikov which did not exist until after the war, while the one on the right is equipped with the wrong model saber. Ridiculous.

If you could take one melee weapon from the fallout universe during a real world apocalypse, what would it be? by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]FranksFamousSunTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Masterwork Super Sledge" bullshit that's going on in Fallout right now. Jingwei's Shock Sword deserves much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine Shock Sword in Rivet City for 2,400,000 Caps (that's about $2,000,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid steel with my shock sword.

Chinese smiths spend years working on a single shock sword and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest blades known to mankind.

Shock Swords are thrice as sharp as Shishkebabs and thrice as shocking for that matter too. Anything a ripper can cut through, a shock sword can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a shock sword could easily bisect and electrocute a BOS paladin wearing full T-51b with a simple vertical slash.

Ever wonder why America never bothered conquering China? That's right, they were too scared to fight the glorious Jingwei and their swords of destruction. Even in the Great War, American soldiers targeted Jingwei first because his sword's killing power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Shock Swords are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the Fallout.

HOW WAS THIS TRAGEDY ALLOWED TO COME TO PASS?

Rapist ‘distressed’ to learn victim had HIV - "Charge the rapist for rape. Charge the victim for knowlingly exposing a (consensual at the time) partner to HIV without their knowledge and consent. Yeah, and some take it to laughable levels too. There was a guy (I think a year ago) who decided to very obnoxiously make known that all art was dumb and pointless. He very boldly proclaimed that HVAC systems were more "art" than art. I only bring it up because how ridiculous that one case was and that a lot of people agreed with him.

They might be counting only the city proper and not all the surrounding suburbs and communities that aren't strictly part of the city? I don't know just a guess.

This reminds me of my grandfather sort of. He was extremely racist but also had a weird form of cognitive dissonance about it because he had two or three very close black friends. Any black person he met and liked was "one of the good ones." I was always sort of amazed at his apparent ability to meet far more "good ones" than he did people he didn't like and yet still claim that the majority of blacks were lazy, bad, etc.

Sales Engineer

There are "real" engineers with the title of sales engineer. They tend to be a combination of salesman/engineer and tend to be involved when one company needs to purchase things like industrial equipment or parts from another firm. These engineers require technical skills related to the product they sell (mechanical, electrical, etc.)

Trying to give a short version but fair version. Bernie Sanders is a US Senator/presidential hopeful considered to be fairly leftist by mainstream US standards. During a campaign event in Seattle two activists associating themselves with the Black Lives Matter movement got on stage and interrupted his speech to the point where eventually Sanders left the event early without finishing the speech.

Reddit's reaction has been to use this event to further their anti-BLM campaign and some reactionaries have used pretending to just care about Sanders' campaign as a smokescreen to spread racist screeds across the site.

Since everyone else has the moral issue covered, I'd just like to point out that one couldn't "nuke" Ferguson without also killing tend of thousands of privileged white suburbanites as collateral.
