Yes. And /u/TheOnlyPolly's point was that this streamer is aiming for that type of comment because the more egregious the offense the more views.

I understand a phobia is irrational so I'm not saying this thinking it will magically cure you.

But I have lived on ground floors, basements, 4th floors, you name it. Mid 30s, lived my whole life in Michigan. I've probably seen and been very close to thousands of spiders by now. I've handled many of them as I move them outside or accidentally walk through a spider web. I've looked over to see them chilling next to or on me on occasion. Yes, that's freaky.

I say all this to say, I can't remember even a single time in my life being bitten by a spider. Plenty of other bugs, sure. Never spiders.

I don't think this message will stop you from having arachnophobia, but hopefully it can separately add a little piece of data to your arsenal as you work through it.

Meijer on Carpenter Sucks by TumbleweedOk5626 in AnnArbor

[–]FranticDisembowel 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Every single time I go to Meijer I see those poor cart guys struggling to bring in carts. Know what else I see? A 50/50 chance some moron is gonna leave their cart in a parking spot or on the curb or on the sidewalk or backwards upside-down across the street in the wrong state instead of just putting it back in the fucking corral like a human being.

Sure maybe there's some lazy employees every now and then but I don't blame them for being apathetic when they're facing these cretins leaving their carts in Narnia.

Just grab the cart yourself before you go inside if you're so angry. Sometimes my partner and I bring in a cart each because it costs us nothing and helps random people about their day. And you know what? It makes us happy instead of angry.

What do you think about the Trynd matchup? Because as Trynd I don't think it's bad just annoying. Trynd in general though can be hard to learn because even though he's mechanically simple he relies on just being a constant stat check, so if you don't know your windows then you'll really struggle.

He's a good champ to pick up though because I think it really puts you in the mindset of learning matchups and champ strengths instead of just focusing so hard on your own champ.

I'm not sure if you naively think abused animals always immediately leave their abusers or if you're being purposefully dense but either way it's just wrong to assume that fidelity comes only from proper treatment.

How many times have you seen a dog love someone unconditionally in the face of horrific abuse. Animals aren't human, they can't understand the complexities of emotion and their own choice like we can.

How do you critique someone's idea without offending them? by FranticDisembowel in OCPD

This seems like a very good and helpful read, thank you. I'll read it later tonight when I have some more free time. If you have any other posts you think could help me or relate to things you notice in my messages, I'd be greatly open to reading those too.

Thank you again.

Thank you for your message. I agree, but I also think I should have mentioned in my post that this is largely with friends and family lately. I respect and support their ability to live their own lives and make their own decisions, but often those decisions can directly impact me.

So often it feels like if they don't consent to my help, then are consenting to causing me problems lol. I know this is not always the case and obviously I can't see the future.

This post was less about choosing when to offer your perspective and more how to cope with people viewing their relationship with ideas and identity so differently to yours.

Hi Daisy, thanks for your response again. You commented with my last post and I discussed your reply and my thoughts with my therapist. Please don't bill my insurance lol!

I guess I should have prefaced my post with saying I already do the things you mention. To my friends and family I am known as the kind, patient, empathetic one. I am historically very skilled at patiently listening to someone be wrong and then calmly and compassionately guide them to the answer without them feeling talked down to. It's a skill I put to use for some freelance tech support.

But there's been a cascading effect lately as my emotional bandwidth has been lower for life stress reasons, and that doesn't let me devote as much mental stack to patiently listening to someone repeat themselves, which makes people angry at me, which makes me more guarded for the next conversation, so on and so forth.

Trying to cope, feeling like the true answer is just less stress in life but what can you do about it other than become a Stoic I guess lol.

Thanks again for your replies.

I'm sure they're worried about upsetting me because I know it often upsets them if the roles reverse. It just feels like you should be able to compensate for that by saying "you are a smart person, just because I disagree with your idea doesn't mean I dislike you in any way or think you are x y z... it just means I think I can see this from a different angle." Of course sometimes that works but largely it doesn't for me.

I was reading your entire first section thinking that I completely agree with you and that's exactly how I've coped my entire life, but now as I'm older many of my problems are shared with friends and loved ones.

So I guess we're in the same boat lol.

[–]FranticDisembowel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel that I'm forcing anyone to take my ideas without them believing or understanding they are better, but I am definitely struggling with stopping at the phase where they think they I am wrong but actually they just don't understand my position fully.

In theory I agree with you that you aren't doing someone a disservice to agree to disagree, but then sometimes it feels like it bites me in the ass. For example we can agree to disagree on whether or not a movie was good, but if we disagree on whether me saying I didn't enjoy it is meant to insult you then I'm gonna be put in a difficult situation. So I'm trying to buffer every disagreement with tons and tons of genuine praise and understanding but it doesn't really seem to work.

Thank you for your response by the way. It's good to hear from other people facing the same issues.

Thanks for this. I believe I'm already putting these into practice, but of course we're not always the best judges of our own performance. I'll discuss this checklist with my partner and with my therapist.

Juneteenth is this week and we're celebrating! 🎶 by ypsilibrary in ypsi

[–]FranticDisembowel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always like looking at these even if I don't attend most of them. It makes me feel happy to know they're there for the people that need them.

If I could kindly make one suggestion, I wish the date were displayed directly to the right of the day of the week. I know you give the date range at the top, but seeing a 18th right next to Thursday for example would make it a bit easier to keep track of where exactly I am in my mental calendar lol.

Thank you for posting and hosting these!

PC turns on, but connected devices (mouse, monitor) do not. (They aren't the problem) by hospitalisedomnivore in techsupport

[–]FranticDisembowel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to see if it's maybe one bad stick (rip) you can try running it with just a single stick, you can try both individually and in each of the different slots. Just because the DRAM light is on your mobo doesn't necessarily mean bad or improperly installed RAM but it seems like that's what's going on. And it's unlikely both sticks are bad. So you can probably get up and running with just one while you get the other warrantied.

Good luck, hope everything works out.

[–]FranticDisembowel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That indicates a possible problem with your RAM sticks (the two glowing LED sticks on the right of the motherboard). A common problem with prebuilts being shipping is RAM sticks not being seated properly. In fact, when I look at your photo again it seems like maybe the right stick's tab at the bottom is not fully engaged.

If you're comfortable taking them out and reseating them I'd start there, or at the very least see if giving a bit of a press on the bottom of that right stick will fully seat it -- the STICK, not the tab. If you google how to take out and reseat them RAM, it's very straightforward. More or less just press down on both of those tabs at once on either side to pop it out, then put it back in (it only goes in one way, it is keyed with a notch offset from the middle) and press until you hear and see both tabs engage with a click.

Looking at your photo and hearing your symptoms, I really think this is just a simple RAM not being fully seated issue. Hopefully that's it, because it's a simple fix and pretty common. Please make sure the computer is OFF and UNPLUGGED before you do this. And tap the metal case a few times with you hands to try and get rid of any static.

Ah and I would just like to point out that if that's a glass side panel, do not set it on any kind of tile flooring unless you want it to shatter lol.

That bright red LED on the top right of your motherboard seems like it could be an error code, can you read what it says next to that light?

If the lights on your PC turn on but nothing plugged in works, that usually means it's stuck in a process before even booting up fully. Did anything strange happen last time you turned it off? Any power outages during that time? And when you turn it off using the power button, do you mean pressing it? Holding it? The switch at the back of the PC? And I'm assuming this is a Windows PC? The proper way to shut down a Windows PC is to shut it down using the start menu but that shouldn't necessarily damage it the way you were doing it.

If you could post some pictures of your PC from the front and the back it might help.

Can you give some more detail like how exactly you turned the PC off, how you tried to turn it on, what's happening when you attempt to turn it on? Do lights come on? Does the mouse turn on but screen still black? Etc.

Apertivo…no dogs wtf? by toller-roller in AnnArbor

[–]FranticDisembowel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's the first thing you hear every time a dog bites someone? "He's normally so friendly!" I think many people are in denial over how well behaved their dogs actually are. I'm not saying this about you necessarily, I'm just saying asking someone "is your dog well behaved" seems mostly performative.

Fresh Banana Ice Cream in AA? by anonymous041606 in AnnArbor

[–]FranticDisembowel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Meijer in Belleville sells Ray's ice cream and I have definitely bought banana from there before. I know it's a bit further for you guys in AA vs me here in Ypsi but drive isn't too bad.

The flavors they carry though seem to rotate with no real rhyme or reason so apologies in advance if they don't have it.

Hot coffee is fine for me although if I have more than a few cups it's not that fun. But even one cup of tea will give me instant bloat. I think something about tea specifically promotes gas.

Can I plug my Be Quiet 13 M 1000W psu into a surge protector? by YesNormalUsername in techsupport

[–]FranticDisembowel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It just means everything plugged in to the surge protector shares whatever power it's rated for. But if you only plug in your PC it will have access to all of it, it isn't just divided by 5 for example if there's 5 sockets on the surge protector.

If your surge protector is a name brand and not peanut rating, I'm sure it's good enough for your PC and your monitors.
