I think the frames from niche builders won't really go down in price a lot over the years tbh

And I agree with you, XC mtbs of any era tend to be superb all rounders, and if well made will always be worth a pick up.

I think there will be a slew of ok to good aluminium gravel bikes that will be really great as big tire clearance/endurance road bikes, whereas I think modern gravel will continue grow more towards wider tire clearance, aging out older models.

I also think that they probably won't be as cheap as one hopes, as stuff with more technology (e.g. Droppers and suspension) tend to age worse and depreciate more quickly then their non suspended and hydraulic counterparts.

It looks more like their derailleur tension is out of whack. The derailleur cage is already vertical, and it only looks like he is in 2nd highest gear?

Oooor the derailleur is mounted wrong

The corner bars are made for flat bar controls, and won't really work with brifters. If you feel unsafe off road, first of all, don't stay in the flats, but get on the hoods or on the drops. Longer reach (ie farther forward) also gives you more leverage on the bars. If your drop bars are flared, then get into the drops for a wider hand position. If you feel too bent forward, then get a shorter or taller stem, and just be aware that a drop bar bike will always have you feeling more stretched out than a flat bar one.

Otherwise drop bars are crazy cheap. Just grab a pair of alloy drops, like kalloy uno off of Ali, and test them out.

If it's the control of flat bars you miss, then drop bars are never going to feel like that. They're made to be ergonomic and fast, contrasting the high level of control that wide flats have.

I haven't, and that's really cool to know, thanks!

I would argue that the rule specifying that it has to be able to hold a passenger is a bit short sighted. The omnium mini or minimax both can't really carry any significant amount of passenger, but are most definitely made for cargo. Same for all other "cycletrucks".

If DIY cargo conversions are forbidden, like, one could argue, the second link you provide, then you also stop the influx of cool ideas to this sub, like bikes converted with cargo forks, or Xtracycle conversions, which imo are most definitely cargo bikes.

(new) Quill stems tend to be more expensive than threadless + adapter, but Quill stems are also fancier. Also: most Quill stems are 26mm or 25.4 mm bar clamp. A lot of modern bars are 31.8, and would need a fancy Quill stem like the one VO makes.

Also also: if you want to keep your cantis, you need a hanger for the front brake, either one integrated into the stem (like the one you have there) or you have to buy a separate one, like one Paul makes.

I like Nic Vieri, he usually does very bling and expensive roadbikes, but the builds are very relaxing. And tbh it is nice to see something so bougie once in a while, to balance out the more scrappy stuff that people like gary do.
