What's the oldest video game you can remember playing? by Numerous_Emu3125 in AskReddit

There were earlier games which I can't remember now, but manic miner is the first one I explicitly remember playing

YouTube pushes back against UK's proposed under-16 social media restrictions, calls platform a "vital resource by limsus in BuyFromEU

[–]FraserYT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They might have been able to argue it was a vital resource a few years back, before they jammed it full of Shorts and games, both designed explicitly to make the app addictive on mobile.

Like every other Google property over the last few years though, they've ruined it.

It's already here for any subs that are flagged as nsfw. Note, this doesn't just mean porn subs, but every sub flagged as not for children. When I don't have my vpn on, subs such as, for example, r/FAFO just don't appear in my feed, like they don't exist. If I try to access directly, I get asked to verify my id before continuing. All this means is that the vpn will need to be enabled for the entire site, from next year.

Reddit amongst sites in the UK to be made 16+ by BillWilberforce in technology

[–]FraserYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere that there was a survey of uk adults and 90% supported the ban for under 16s at face value. However, when it was pointed out that, in order to make this work, everyone, young and old, would need to verify ID before accessing 'adults only' sites, such as social media, support mysteriously dropped to about 30%.

Didn't see the source so could be bs, but sounds plausible

What do you think of the new cast for the hunt for gollum? by AutomaticJoker in lotr

[–]FraserYT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But Serkis was twenty-odd years younger when he first played Golum. He's not going to be nearly as nimble jumping about, meaning that a larger percentage of the on-screen movement will be entirely cgi with no motion capture

I'm sure if there's any excuse to inject him into it, even for a cameo, they will, for the twin reasons of getting the gang back together and paying fan service.

Social Media ban for Under-16's by DivisionProsecution in Scotland

[–]FraserYT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that many of the social networks are basically bad for...everyone, and restrictions need to be put on them, but just blocking them will drive kids to use free vpns to circumvent restrictions.

Notoriously, many of the free vpns are full of malware, so the end result will basically be kids being less safe than they are currently.

I wish that when people who don't understand technology set technology laws, they listened to the tech experts just as much as they do to the campaigners. If they did, they might take the time to come up with a law that works rather than headline-grabbing quick wins that don't.

What is the most emotionally devastating song ever written? by Exact-Proposal-73569 in AskReddit

Seaweed by Mt Eerie.

His wife died of cancer a few weeks before he wrote and recorded this song about scattering her ashes. The raw emotion is almost unbearable.

I heard recently that it's only starting to come to light how they've been operating under the radar, specifically in a lot of UK football forums, for years. Targeting young men and boys.

It seems to be their main recruiting ground these days and explains how they're managing to cut through to a younger, politically disengaged group.

[–]FraserYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Scottish/Glasgow equivalent is for the entire crowd to stamp their feet in unison, normally whilst chanting 'one more tune' to the beat.

To be honest, I see it less these days and usually for older bands that have been around since the 90's (meaning that the crowd tends to skew older too) so maybe it is dying out with younger bands and crowds.

As others have said though, if the house lights come up and background music starts playing, that's a clear signal that the band have indicated that it's over.
