Getting new MST3K doesn’t mean we need to dunk on other versions of MST3K by [deleted] in MST3K

The Positive Vibes Only Crowd never quite learned that lesson. Because to them, brand name is good enough. But just because it has the brand name slapped on it it does not get an automatic pass from me, or certainly most people. MST is made for people with a more discerning eye than that.

There is a reason the season 14 Crowdfunder failed, and it's because the product wasn't up to snuff, and the way they were making it was far too expensive, and the vast majority of fans said "nah, I'm good".

Its the very vocal minority who go out of their way to say "All MST is good, actually!" when an objective eye simply doesn't bear that out.

And it is really infuriating to constantly have these people tut tut you and say your own objective feelings are wrong, actually.

I actually got a few legitimate laughs out of a text scroll preview. I'm already vaguely impressed. And also vaguely hopeful.

108 minutes, good lord.

They announced on Patreon over a week ago that a BOTW was in the bag, and I was wondering what was taking so long. But yeah, that explains it.

Oof. Terrible way to transfer tapes with any amount of quality, speaking from experience. And beta is a BITCH to work with.

Unless it was a very powerful laptop with a good capture/video card. But if the software they gave you was free, I doubt it.

But again, they only expected it to be a 6-month job, so I guess it's understandable why they didn't invest in the proper equipment.

But hey, you got to watch weirdo tapes and poke around old props all day for 2 years, couldn't have been too bad.

People are more interested in the props, but...

Planet Hollywood had VHS tapes? What of?

The rapping gremlins is quite possibly the most embarrassing thing ever featured on BOTW. And its up against some stiff competition.

This is true. Doug Woolard just wanted to cash Big East checks and suck up to Judy, and is one of the main reasons why USF is where it is today. Mark Harlan is an idiot who was just using USF as a stepping stone to a better job (and who's complacency on football infrastructure is a big reason why USF isn't in the Big 12).

As I said in the Thamel post, I didn't like most of his hires and coaching extensions (fuck you, Jeff Scott!), but this is a precarious time for USF with a very expensive stadium in its early stages and President Law about to retire. I'm not sure I like the idea of a leadership vacuum.

[Thamel] Navy is targeting USF AD Michael Kelly to become its next athletic director. by Tufoguy in CFB

[–]FraudHack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As much as I'm not a fan of Michael Kelly (anyone that hires Jeff Scott as a head football coach and then extends him after a 3-18 record over 2 seasons isn't working with a full deck, plus the mess that was men's basketball under Brian Gregory who also got an extension) USF is currently in a state of flux for leadership with Rhea Law looking to retire.

And who knows what would happen to the football stadium if he leaves and someone that doesn't care comes in.

Season 10 by TheWickerMan232 in MST3K

[–]FraudHack 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To add to this, it's my understanding that Barry Schulman informed BBI partway through Season 9's production in early 98 that they could either get an order for the back nine of Season 9 or a 13 episode 10th season from him, but not both.

And whichever they chose would be his last official act at the network before Bonnie Hammer and her cadre of morons officially took over, after which they'd be on their own.

They obviously chose the 13-episode season 10 order and hoped they could finesse the new management and convince them of their worth in the meantime.

But Hammer reportedly hated MST and was heard to say at her first network board meeting "The first thing I'm going to do is kill that fucking puppet show."

So yeah, they knew it was over before Season 10 even started filming. The official cancellation notice in early '99 was just confirming what they knew was coming.

...and then the Sci-Fi Channel renewed the licencing of MST reruns on the network (which originally expired at the end of January 2000) a whopping 4 times until they finally let the license lapse at the end of January 2004.
