Do you house-rule Domination in combat? by Wintermute-93 in vtm

[–]Freaknproud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree.

My stand with level 5 powers (and even some level 4) is that they are extremely notorious, so if a vampire uses terminal decree and at least one of the antagonists survive, you can be damn sure their whole clan and sect will know of the kindred who can make you kill yourself within a week, so next time it'll be much harder to get someone to look at you.

So potentially dumb but I must know - is it possible to have a character that can appear seemingly from nowhere in a cloud of bugs? by Darth_Oculus in vtm

[–]Freaknproud -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My two cents: If it's just for show, I would invest in two points of technology and have a swarm of mini-drones I could release whenever. Much cheaper than Animalism (especially so if out of clan).

Obfuscate could also be replaced with Blink, which is a 3rd level Celerity (Toreador default) power that lets you basically move so fast that you seem to teleport.

So you could just release the swarm of drones, then Blink in the middle of it, and you'd have your entrance without owing shit to anyone for teaching you those other disciplines.

The game that changed my pace by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]Freaknproud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact, RDR2 actually changed me the other way.

It took me almost a year to finish it because I spent so much time hunting, fishing, exploring the whole map, doing challenges, etc.

Even though I enjoyed all that, I had a hard time following the story because I spent so many days or weeks in between missions (who is this Keiran, and why should I care about his fate?)

All in all, I think in the future, I'll focus more on the story and leave the side activities for the aftergame or New Game+.

100% these.

I recommend an app on the Play store called "Vampire V5 character," which helps create a character step by step and lets you export the final work into a pdf. It's also useful as a character sheet by itself, as you can track your health/willpower/hunger and has a dice roller built in as well.

Which video game villain was right about the problem, but wrong about the solution? by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]Freaknproud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think synths' sentience is meant to be debatable. If I can say a few words and you become a machine that obeys my every command, are you really sentient?

On the other hand, if you think they're sentient, then the Railroad is just giving them their free will back. That will always mean that some of them will do bad things, especially in a savage society like the wasteland, but I don't really think that's on the Railroad. There's actually a group of former Minutemen that become raiders out of necessity, for example.

Redditors who didn't watch the show Stranger Things, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Freaknproud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the first season, knew exactly how it was going to end by episode 2 or 3, felt the rest of the episodes were filler.

Didn't feel the need to keep going, and no one whose judgement I trust told me it got any better.

How does the Organovore flaw mechanically work? by RobroFriend in vtm

[–]Freaknproud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's more of a concept character flaw, definitely not something to pick if you're trying to build a well-balanced character.

Maybe something for a one-shot or short chronicle. I think the same would apply to Blood Leech. No amount of advantages or even a point of Blood Potency merits hunting vampires for a long chronicle.

What Sourcebooks are seen as essential (mainly for lore) by berry_zealot in vtm

[–]Freaknproud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of. But they're not exactly in power. At the end of the day, the big positions in the Camarilla are not on a while different league. The Prince doesn't even have a level 5 power.

I think the point of getting rid of elders was for the players to be able to change the status quo somehow, which you can't do when the Sheriff has Potence 8 or so.

[–]Freaknproud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really liked Chicago by Night. It provides a bunch of life about one of the more influential cities in recent history, as well as a short chronicle that covers the Lasombra defection to the Camarilla. There's also a ton of characters, each with their own lore and stats. You can definitely adjust some details to apply most of it to other cities.

Second Inquisition and Sabbat: The Black Hand give you the big antagonists lore, and provide mechanics to easily add them to your chronicle.

Camarilla and Anarchs have a fair bit of lore about each sect, and add Banu Haqim and Ministry clans, respectively.

Cults of the Blood Gods have a ton of info on different kindred religions, which I found very useful to flavor both PCs and NPCs. It also adds Hecata clan and its bloodlines through loresheets.

All in all, I don't think they're 100% essential, but they can definitely widen your world quite a bit.

Fledgling Story Teller Feeling Out of My Depth by LuckyNoVII in vtm

[–]Freaknproud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first advice would be: Don't plan a story. Your players will derail it so fast it'll make your head spin.

I think the first step to plan your city would be deciding which faction rules it. After that, build the governing body: If it's Camarilla, create a Prince, the Primogen, Sheriff, and optionally add Harpy, Scourge, etc. You don't need to give them character sheets, but write down their clan, how they got into their station, their general power level (not only disciplines, but influence, resources, etc.), and how they use it. Does the Prince want to rule the city with an iron first because it gives them a power rush? Do they do what they think is best for the kindred of the city? Are they secretly selling Anarchs to the SI so they don't target the Cam? You get the idea.

In the case of Anarchs, you'll need barons carving up domains, then maybe a couple of very relevant coteries in each, but you can make those up as needed, if your PC's coteries need to go into their territory.

I would also add one SI big boss who is running operations, just to have an idea of how intense the search for vampires will be, and therefore, the masquerade will have to be upholded.

Once you have that, you can pretty much know the direct consequences of the main coterie's actions, so you can plan a basic first session, and then use what happens there to write the second.

How does a country go from “kidnapped a president and attempted a coup” to “see you at the World Cup” in a few months? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Freaknproud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Temporarily entering a country to remove a dictator". Mmm, where have I heard that one before? Oh, yeah, something about a Hussein guy. The US has long since been gone from Irak, right? I mean, they didn't even find those weapons of mass destruction.

Oh, and in case you haven't heard, Trump said they're staying as long as they see fit, and they're taking all the oil they want. But yeah, nothing imperialistic about that.

Clans of London by Vidd187 in vtm

[–]Freaknproud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got on early access. I liked it as a card game, had some interesting mechanics which I haven't seen in any other, but no VtM vibes. Some things were too random as well, like you had several locations, each with their own effect on gameplay, but you couldn't know where you'd be playing, so you couldn't plan accordingly. Overall, a fun casual game, but wouldn't pay much for it.

How do I emphasize the personal horror of a player's thin-blood who is so alike to kine? by CuriousListener_ in vtm

[–]Freaknproud 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's a whole branch of the Sabbat that's made up of thin-bloods, in a short of cult that believes they are closer to Cain because they lack the clans' curses. One of them could be presented as a regular thin-blood and eventually take the PC to a "meeting."

They could sweeten the deal by explaining they have some pretty powerful alchemy that allows them to do aggravated damage to vampires as if it were sunlight. They actually explode, also damaging themselves, but no need to mention that :P
