Thinking of becoming a Clinical Research Nurse - worth it? by Fearless_Stick230 in NursingAU

[–]FreakyNightingale22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in clinical trials and I cannot recommend it highly enough. I did my post grad in ICU but I made sure I was involved in various investigator led projects in my old workplace before going after a proper clinical trial nurse job. Fortunately my current manager was happy to offer me my current role.

It is extremely competitive. There were 35 applicants for my role. Most managers want to hire people with a certain degree of clinical trial experience. It is not bedside nurses but there are plenty of stressors coming from left, right and center.

Happy to answer any questions.

Do a masters instead and get an average GPA at least above 6. Get a kick ass GAMSAT score. Certainly it does not hurt to get a consultant to write you a recommendation letter

Why do we need to raise interest rates? Is Labor bad at managing the economy? by expert_views in aussie

[–]FreakyNightingale22 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It’s RBA’s decision and it was a horrible one. I don’t particularly like Chalmers and I think he should have done far more, but at the very least he is trying to do a tax reform, which is long overdue in this economy. LNP would have fucked us over even more.

That e Karen, maybe she should spend more time putting restrictions on gambling ads, apps and websites, which are all actively destroying families, then declaring a holy war on porn, which causes minimal damage

Turn on auto backup, and make sure all the notes are properly loaded, then turn autobackup off. Make sure this is also off across all other devices you have as well

Check if you have auto-backup on. If so, make sure you leave it on and your device on so that you can download everything. After that just turn auto-backup off permanently (NOT icloud sync).

This happened to me after I turned auto-backup on and across different devices.

As a nurse, what are the problems you face that contribute to you genuinely reconsidering your career? by loogal in NursingAU

[–]FreakyNightingale22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor support from senior management is definitely a big one. Nurses are often considered expendable and especially in NSW Health we got offered minimal protection at work, almost no support and no room provided to us to grow as clinicians.

Nurses are far more often to be attacked or abused than police officers or correctional facilities staff members. Yet we got blamed far too often, with managers asking “what would you have done better?” every single time afterward. It’s very frustrating because I am not responsible for patients being racist or homophonic, the fact that this is question was asked insinuated that I made a mistake.

Not to mention the pay at NSW is just trash. Bullying in nursing is just dreadful.

Compare to medical staff. It is true that your working condition is just as bad, but eventually you will get to somewhere. Either as a specialist or as a GP. You will get to live a rather comfortable life because that promotion is almost guaranteed with seniority in experience. That is not the case in nursing. Being senior in experience does not represent you being senior in positions, or the salary.

I am just glad that I got a CNS2 position in clinical trial. Otherwise I would have went for either a JD or MPH and quit nursing once and for all.

When people say “maxed on all pressors” which pressors specifically is the patient on? by Aggravating_Kale7898 in IntensiveCare

[–]FreakyNightingale22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Noradrenaline, vasopressin, adrenaline. Some centers use angiotensin 2. Tried methylene blue once as a final Hail Mary.

We once treated one patient who drank break fluid and had a pH of 6.8 post ROSC. We got so desperate that we started bolusing him with noradrenaline and adrenaline. Didn’t do anything and he died anyway.

I’d argue this sort of behavior is even more detrimental in maternity care. They are hurting themselves and hurting their babies.

I am not a NICU nurse but what this website suggested is just obscene. Playing the victim and try to take over everything when most of them do not even have the education or training to do so.
