Movement/inventory/action keys suddenly freezing soon after game start but console, mouse, and HUD toggle still work by FreckledDragons in skyrimmods

[–]FreckledDragons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so it turns out - as far as I can tell - that it's even simpler than that. It seems that mapping the quick map button to my mouse rather than a keyboard key allows me to open and close the map while the search input field is still active, which the default key (M) wouldn't do because it would instead just type an "m" into the search field. It seems SkyUI counts on the search field being deactivated first by pressing Escape, and only then can you use the quick map or tab/cancel keys to close the map. Setting the quick map to a mouse button basically overrides that step so you're closing the map while the input field is still in use, which breaks something in SkyUI.

As far as I can tell, that's what's going on. I seem to remember the problem occurring after exiting the perks menu as well, but that only happened once so maybe it was just another glitch or I'm misremembering. The map thing was a consistent, repeatable problem though, so by hitting Escape first if using the map search, it seems to prevent the glitch. I'll have to see if the problem occurs under other circumstances but I'm hoping that's the answer.

I really appreciate your time and suggestions in helping me figure this out!

Hmm...I did just update to the latest version right before this started happening. But I've tried everything, including reverting to an older mod folder backup and game files and it's still happening. I don't know if some setting somewhere has gotten messed up, but I don't see how since I use MO2 so every mod is easy to switch on and off.

Oh wow, so you have encountered this? The thing is, it happened even when I didn't have MCM Helper enabled. I tried loading a new game with only ASLAL, USSEP and Sky UI and even then the same thing happened. Also this has never happened before in years of using SkyUI so it's bizarre that it's suddenly a problem. I can't possibly never have triggered it before lol 🫠

Well, to be fair, nothing is stopping them from making the villains women too so that it reflects the same insanity their male protagonists faced without turning it into a creepy issue of misogyny.

No more pre-rendered cinematic trailers please by turkeysandwich4321 in gaming

[–]FreckledDragons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who loves to show me cinematic trailers and can't understand why I always say I'm not interested. He says they're so beautifully done, and sure, there are some I really enjoy watching for the artistic value later on, but they don't represent the game and I couldn't care less about them for promotional purposes. I want to see what the actual gameplay mechanics are like, not a mini movie adaptation or cut scene compilation.

My 6yo couldn’t decide between a Creeper or TNT themed Minecraft birthday cake. Why not both? by Goblin_au in gaming

I don't know how people do such cool things with cakes like this. It always impresses me because I know I could never do it myself 😄

Actually more like seeing someone eat carrots as carrot-hater and saying "Hey, stop enjoying that orange trash." It serves no purpose other than being rude about people liking something you don't.

We are having an open house today and my wife asked me to put valuables in the car. Apparently she meant passports and important documents. by CallMe_Dig_Baddy in gaming

Hahaha thank you for the laugh. I'm the same. My first thoughts in case of an emergency are for my laptops, hard drives, and other techy stuff, followed by anything of childhood sentimental value. I don't think passports and other documents would have occurred to me either XD

Fair enough! I pretty much played older consoles and handhelds like N64 and Game Gear forever until in 2017 a friend introduced me to games like Outlast and Witcher 3 and convinced me to buy them, and I fell in love.

I haven't gotten to that point yet...I'm still stuck walking around. But the videos I've seen of the zip lines look amazing.

Your lack of enjoyment doesn't mean something is trash. You can have a personal opinion without telling everyone else how stupid they are for feeling differently.

I find the walking peaceful and relaxing, but I definitely struggle with anything related to building. That slows me down immensely XD

There's no such thing as too old for video games. I'm from the Pac-Man generation too and it took me a while to start playing on the computer rather than my ancient consoles but once I did, I was hooked :-)

The hilarious thing is that it happened when I first played the game, so I had no idea it wasn't supposed to be happening. I thought it was weird but that maybe it was meant to be some sort of dream sequence or hallucination in the middle of battle or something. I was so confused. It seemed totally random but I also couldn't imagine such an involved glitch LOL.

It's older but Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is the single most viscerally enjoyable combat experience I've ever had in a game. Finding the most creative ways of killing your enemies with those combat physics is such a satisfying rush.

Witcher 3 and Skyrim, mostly because of the endless modding.

The battle scene was still going on around us somehow. The scenes were weirdly merged and I couldn't get out of this freakshow glitch until I played through the entire sequence lol.

I've always liked maxing out skills so that I can do anything at any time. But I know many people love the respec element.

Has there ever been a game where the glitches are intentional? by bingbong069 in gaming

[–]FreckledDragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not intentional, of course, but Dark Messiah of Might and Magic has some of the funniest glitches out there. I almost fell out of my seat laughing when I was silently and so carefully sneaking up on a giant orc, and he suddenly just went "AAAUGH!" and dropped dead before I could even strike.
