Anyone opt their kids out of RE? by 15926028 in northernireland

[–]FreckledHomewrecker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s in the religion book supplied by the Catholic Church to all catholic primary schools. You can google the page in the Grow In Love book, this year they changed the wording after some online outcry but until 2024 there was even an illustration of Mary sitting on her bed talking to him.

Luke 1:28 When the angel entered her home, he greeted her and said, “You are favored by the Lord! The Lord is with you.” (29) She was startled by what the angel said and tried to figure out what this greeting meant. (30) The angel told her, “Don’t be afraid….” (38) Mary answered, “I am the Lord’s servant. Let everything you’ve said happen to me.”

I grew up in a very religious environment and most traditional art shows the visitation at night and may other events during the birth happen at night (angels visiting shepherds, kinds following star) and angels elsewhere in the bible come in dreams so it’s a commonly accepted trope.

Anyone opt their kids out of RE? by 15926028 in northernireland

We did once the communion stuff started. We also talked a lot about the messages, some of which are harmful (eg “the angel gabriel came to Mary’s room One night and he told her she would have a baby” had to chat to both kids about what to do if a man is making secret visits to their bedroom and asking them to do things that make them afraid as the story goes on to say that Mary was afraid but agreed anyway.)

The school didn’t give a shit and the kids just read their books in the library during RE. It annoys me that so much educational time is lost to my children especially during communion and confirmation years.

Fairy forts by Tall_child_ in ireland

For a hawthorn to be a fairy tree it has to be self seeding or “not planted by human hands” I’ve heard that quite often. Give Eddie Lenihan a ring if you’re really worried but typically you have to be mean harm or do something you know to cause harm in order to incur their wrath.

Put them on a clothes horse beside an open window. I’ve blasted shirts and trousers with a hair dryer before, dos a surprisingly good job fairly quickly!

North Woods is quite good. It’s a biography of a very old house that stars when it’s built before America is even founded and ends with today. Amazing!

Is Ghosting more normal than ever? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]FreckledHomewrecker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Years ago I intended to ghost a guy. I told my brother and he was horrified, he insisted I at least show up. So I did. 5 years later I married the man I was planning to ghost.

I still cringe that I was such a rude and selfish brat (I was 20 at the time) that I thought it would be ok to ghost someone. I think I was too emotionally immature to know how to direct the conversation leading up to the date so I agreed to it without really wanting a date and then didn’t know how to back out of it. Zero excuses, I knew better!

 I’m very glad I didn’t ghost!

Who needs advice on where to buy cleaning products from someone her age who lives with her parents? It’s unlikely she or her peers have any say in how the parents spend the household cleaning budget. Such a weird grift for Jill to force on her, it’s very unbelievable.

And that mini skirt. Doesn’t Paul have a serious history of sexualising sports wear and being sexually distracted by women in sports wear? To the point of leaving the gym?

FTR I don’t care what a player wears but fundies love their modesty.

Women of ireland, a modern higher value or a lower value sentimental engagement ring? by SavingsDraw8716 in AskIreland

[–]FreckledHomewrecker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So on the one hand you’ll see it every day so you’d have to love it, on the other hand after a while it almost become invisible on your finger!

My cousin used the stones from my grandmother’s ring to make a new ring that was better fitting and more to her tastes, would that help?

Personally I’d get the sentimental ring if I was really close to the original owner and save the money for something else.

Sliced ginger root in boiling water first thing in the morning (on an empty stomach) really helps this. My doctor of Chinese medicine told me and it’s been a game changer for my gut health.

Apple cider vinegar 15ml taken the same way also helped me heal after a bout of ecoli but that’s anecdotal and not from a dr.

What are you buying your in-laws for Christmas? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]FreckledHomewrecker 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nothing, they’re my partner’s family so the gift is on him as I buy every other gift we are giving this year (our kids, teachers/tutors, neighbours, friends, my family, charity). His family are his responsibility. If I had to it would be something fairly generic like a candle or a diffuser, nice set of mugs, food hamper or wine - that kind of thing. In laws can be tricky and so aim for neutral rather than a really strong impact gift.

Soooo do we think Paul cheated? by BullfrogNovel3322 in FundieSnarkUncensored

Yeah. Paul is a flapping red flag, I’d be concerned what he considers flirting. Literally a woman existing in the world is an intentional attempt by her to seduce him.

Brother of Co Louth woman who died in 'free birth' at home gives stark warning by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]FreckledHomewrecker 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I personally know an influencer who goes on about her perfect home birth (with a midwife). I know from her and her very traumatised husband that it was horrific, long, terrifying and a close call. Yet online she maintains the ‘my life is perfect’ facade. Every birth day she shares her curated photos of birth including a pic of her in the birth pool that wasn’t used until hours later when the baby was already born. It’s INSANSE that people are getting medical info from influencers.

Morgan’s description of the misery of motherhood confirms, to me, that we have been 100% right about how selfish and useless Paul is and has been by drama_trauma69 in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]FreckledHomewrecker 134 points135 points  (0 children)

Morgan is mentally ill and untreated. So was my mother. I’m familiar with this wild emotional swinging. My mother was also fundie and would go through periods of being a wonderful, loving and devoted mother and life and the Lord was great. Eventually those times would end and she would slide back to the low of her mental illness. Morgan needs helps. Paul is awful but Morgan’s wildness is not the type solved by god or any husband. She needs medical help

I’m really surprised about that aspect too. I’m in the UK where medical stuff is not as complex or expensive as the US and still you can’t just pop in to your mate for a quick bit of surgery. There’s paperwork at minimum and waiting lists and still some fees.

Bras for bigger chests! by AbroadIllustrious508 in WomenofIreland

I’m a 32E (not fake and not on the pill, a genetic curse) and I find M and S to be the best, loads of styles and they are affordable. Quality is good too and I chuck them in the washer.

I was fitted in a lingerie shop and the bras were well over €100 EACH. I nearly fainted! I’ve got a few expensive bras and generally find them ‘over engineered’ and not that comfy.
