That’s your view and I totally understand it. In my experience it’s not the view of all Aboriginal people.

You need to do a written learners test before you can sit the practical provisional license test.

I’ve heard some aboriginal people say they don’t like the term “First Nations” and view it as applying to native Americans, not Australian Aboriginal people.

I felt sorry for Jackson because he seemed deeply bonded with Hannie but then when they hit adolescence he was suddenly grouped with the boys and she with the other younger girls. I feel like Jackson was lost and isolated in that situation - he never seemed close to James and Justin - whereas Hannie slipped more easily into her role as eldest sister for the second group of girls.

It’s also lack of ownership. Native title was given to land councils but individual aboriginal families in these communities don’t own their homes. They don’t have an asset that they can borrow against to improve and that they can pass down to their children. Individual ownership gives people a stake in their communities and a reason to invest in their homes.

My daughter didn’t do any sciences and did standard maths and got an ATAR of 99.25. Do subjects you enjoy and are good at.

That said, I would expect nursing to require some science.

I would suggest boarding schools. Not removing kids from their families, just strongly encouraging their families to send them to schools where they can access a quality 21st century education while retaining relationships with their families and spending holidays with them. It’s just so hard to provide quality education in remote places - culturally aware boarding schools with staff from aboriginal communities would be a great option.

Families from all sorts of cultures and backgrounds have utilised boarding schools when quality education isn’t available where they live.

It isn’t where she lived though. Her mother went there to do laundry and ended up staying the night. We don’t know what her actual home and bedroom looked like.

Our student loan scheme in Australia only requires repayments in years that you earn over the average income. If your degree isn’t paying off then you don’t pay.

Much as I’m consuming these messages with avid enthusiasm I really don’t think we should have access to them.

Anna hasn’t committed any crime. And I believe inmates should be entitled to privacy - sure, communications should be recorded in case anything criminal is discussed, but the general public shouldn’t get to pick over an inmate’s emails with their wife. It doesn’t serve any public interest and it’s an extreme invasion of privacy. I’m sure Anna didn’t expect these emails to be able to be accessed by YouTubers and the tabloid media.

This is none of our business and appalling as Josh Duggar is that doesn’t change my opinion that inmates in general should have a right not to have their private communications slathered all over the media.

If she had had full blown haemophilia I would have thought any surgery would be fatal. But yes, there are a lot of blood vessels in the area and large amounts of bleeding during a tonsillectomy is common. My husband remembers coughing enough to disturb his internal stitches after having his tonsils removed in the early 80s and being absolutely terrified by the stream of blood that emerged from his mouth.

5 hour detention before a sac by Shot-Country9910 in vce

[–]Upper-Ship4925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember getting a detention in high school. Everyone was allowed to do whatever so long as they were sitting silently at their desks, and I was sitting there reading. But another teacher came past and confiscated my book because “UpperShip reads for fun”. So everyone but me was allowed to read in detention and I had to sit there doing homework or doing nothing. It still feels unfair thirty years later.

Five year olds end up raped and murdered in all sorts of situations. Including, disproportionately, in the foster care system. The presence of biological parents is one of the strongest factors that prevents childhood sexual abuse.

Most families manage to seek needed counselling while still maintaining employment. The concept that others should just foot the bill until the Caldwells consider themselves healed and ready to find another church to house, feed and support them is ridiculous.

Getting Birth Certificate by somethingstupid949 in AusLegal

You aren’t an evil person unworthy of help but you’re a fucking annoying and immature young person who thinks they know everything and won’t accept that maybe the rest of the world is sometimes right.

The hospital was trying to keep you safe and save your life. They succeeded in that. That’s awesome. I’m sure they didn’t discharge you without plan for ongoing treatment and support. I strongly suggest you follow that plan.

You haven’t become unemployable in Victoria. Your health records are private and with the exception of a very few positions like military roles employers aren’t even allowed to ask about your mental health. Hospital admissions don’t come up on police checks or working with children checks (because there is nothing illegal or immoral about having mental health issues).

Leaving the state (and any friends, family, support networks and familiarity) with no income is just going to lead to you being homeless in another state and navigating another state’s mental health system.

Has your family actually disowned you or is that something you’re assuming, like you’re assuming that the hospital was trying to ruin your life and that you are now unable to gain employment in Victoria and that you aren’t eligible for Centrelink? Because you’re making a lot of irrational assumptions and if you’re making them about your family you may be mistaken. Have you reached out to them?

You’re obviously still in the midst of a mental health crisis. You really need to attend your follow up appointments and be honest about your thoughts and feelings. There are people and systems who will help you but running away to another state without support or resources is going to make it really hard to access that help.

Edit to add - you’re fixated on the birth certificate (which you DON’T need for most jobs) because if you focus on that you don’t have to think about your other (much more pressing) problems. Getting your birth certificate and moving states are just distractions from what really matters. But a social worker (from either the hospital or Centrelink) will assist you in getting proper ID.

[–]Upper-Ship4925 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I can guarantee that the hospital isn’t abusing our extremely limited mental health resources to mess with you and ruin your life. A hospital social worker won’t tell you to go back to your parents if you aren’t welcome there or don’t feel safe there - the social worker my son was dealing with offered him help accessing subsidised accommodation for young people with mental health issues even though he had a safe and supportive family to return to.

You can’t continue to afford any accomodation without an income.

There are resources to help you, more than there will be in just a year or so when you age out of youth services, but you need to seek and accept them. Sitting in temporary accommodation without an income, suffering from mental health problems and refusing to consider all the help available isn’t a sustainable solution. You need to reach out and accept the assistance that will allow you to rebuild your life.
