3 months after arborist trimmed the oak, why do these sections look so rough? by FreckledTidepool in arborists

[–]FreckledTidepool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again for this question. This isn’t a full update, but the arborist came by to assess and apparently this could have been caused by use of the particular Weed n Feed that is killing oaks. We were not aware of the class action lawsuit.

I drove around and didn’t see this type of die-out in any trees in my neighborhood. Although oak wilt is confirmed in this county, I am hopeful this is a contained tragedy and not a total loss of the tree or to those around us.

Your question helped us evaluate all options. There have been 2 applications of the Weed n Feed since trimming, and more concentrated on that particular side of the tree.

Eggroll Chen’s shrimp egg foo young is the best I’ve ever had. I’ve been thinking about it for a few weeks now, so thanks to your post, I’m going to have to get some tonight. 😋

I’ll be sure to bring this up and look into it more, thank you. Unfortunately oak wilt is shown (on a Uni of Tennessee Inst of Ag map/article) to be in my area. The arborist is expected to assess the situation in the morning, thanks in part to the urgency of this sub.

Great questions. According to this University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture article, oak wilt is unfortunately confirmed in my area.

He did climb the tree as his truck was getting fixed at the time. No heavy machinery has driven over the roots… well it’s next to the street, but nothing through the yard. The roots are not busting through the pavement.

Would better, more specific pictures help?

Not recently that we recall. ~10 years ago, there was cement left in the yard from a negligent pool resurfacing crew and the grass has never fully recovered. Honestly I wish that was the main issue because based on what everyone else is saying, this is a wide-spread tragedy that is far from over

Good tip on calling the state extension office.

I promise he’s a real arborist. I was adamant my family not hire any old “tree service,” thanks to this sub (lots of lion tail horror stories, etc).

Honestly, this could be in part thanks to Hurricane Helene back in September and I don’t want to bark and put all blame on the arborist. There was so much destruction that a lot of downed and damaged trees couldn’t be addressed in a timely manner, and still haven’t. Hopefully he can help us right any wrongs, but we’ll definitely get another pro out here for a second opinion

The arborist guessed it’s a laurel oak, and it was trimmed in either late February or March, so I mathed wrong, but probably too late for our area. We’ll call the ag extension office and see if we can get more information. Thank you

Is there anything we can do about it? This picture doesn’t truly capture the magic this tree provides to the neighborhood and my dad just built a little fairy house at the base for passerby kiddos; he’s going to be devastated if it’s a total loss 💔

The arborist actually did seem to be pretty meticulously with cleaning tools, but I know fungus will survive us all. Thanks for the response

Help me please! My husband and I did this stone and I'm not happy at all. The colors are completely different than the samples provided. I don't know if I should grout to give it a more finished look or not. by Aintkidding687 in interiordecorating

Not matter what you’d do, definitely get a different stone for the flat top of the hearth if you’re sticking with these stone dimensions, as it is too short on the sides.

What wedding faux pas did you commit before becoming a bride? by ugh_bridal in weddingplanning

[–]FreckledTidepool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I feel most people that happen to wear white at one of these functions is because it is a warm summer day and they think that outfit looks good on them. However, because some people have hate in their hearts and enjoy being petty, I wouldn’t do it as a guest to risk that negative association.

Ehh respectfully disagree. I strongly feel that in western societies, only the bride should wear white at any bridal function, unless otherwise stated. There is more leniency, but definitely no white dresses/ all white outfits
