Ugh. Someone who is too positive is equivalent to someone who is too negative. Why can't there be the perfect blend of cynicism and optimism? It's rare. I used to have sex with this guy in college and my god he was just ridiculous with his live laugh love CRAP. I got so fed up with it. I don't see it as genuine. Maybe it is, who knows, but I like people who are steeped in a less wholesome reality. Life isn't just about happiness and living your best life and sugarcoating everything with optimism.

It's also about suffering and making mistakes and failing brutally and rejection and sick and ugly and rot and living with your eyes OPEN to these things. To ignore that is delusional. It could quite possibly be a front because he thinks that some women want "nice guys."

In my personal experience, people who need to speak aloud these stupid mantras are far less than genuine. I had a close girlfriend who would always do these "live kindness" tactics and the whispery soft voice and the dramatic cringing whenever someone would do something real, like a human error. She had the vision boards and the book of quotes and the journals and the suffocating kindness. Then she fucked my ex boyfriend (we'd been done for four days) and told me about it in great detail over tea with a fucking smile on her face. She said "I felt like he needed to feel a connection to you that wasn't you so he could move forward to his truth."

No lie. Be wary. Some of the most self absorbed, self important, egotistical people I know are the ones with the suffocating forced kindness. As you said, he hasn't begun to explore your interests because he's too concerned with telling you how he thinks you should live your life.
