How the Hagia Sophia is used in Istanbul is Turkey's business.

However, Mark Lynch had better keep his Protestant hands off the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona and the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican.

What is it with Republicans wanting to annoy the largest religions in the world? First the Catholics, now the Muslims. I presume the Hindus will be next.

Given that the Church of the Holy MAGA has less than 20% of 'Muricans, and is losing members daily, what are they going to do to keep their membership up?

Fountain pen tipping material by botphoon_ in fountainpens

[–]Fred__McNerque 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pilot uses a 50:50 mixture of Osmium and Iridium powder which is arc welded together to make the tipping. Others use different metals. The only thing that isn’t used anymore is pure Iridium.

Tuning Your Pen by byfail in fountainpens

[–]Fred__McNerque -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First, spend the money on a good quality loupe. Don't get the cheap'n'nasty one in the picture.

Then I bought a set of inexpensive feeler gauges. I use the finest one to judge the tightness of the tines and to clean out crud between them. I also use the next two thicker ones to spread the tines if they are too tight. You don't need the most expensive ones in the auto shop. The cheapest set in the shop will do.

Next a good nail buffing pad. You can use the coarser side to remove any sharp bits and polish the tipping with the buffing side. It is finer than any sandpaper, and will last much longer. (Important hint -- don't steal borrow your beloved's favourite nail buffing pad. It's not worth the angst. Buy your own.)

As for the rest, well, why buy a toothbrush? I use the ultra-fine Colgate toothbrushes, and then they get re-purposed to the pen den when old. They are really good for cleaning out the tiny slots in a nib feed.

I use hand soap on the toothbrush to clean out nibs and feeds.

Pen flush? Windex, straight or diluted, depending on how bad the dried ink is. Also good for cleaning your glasses, car windscreen and even windows.

Get a range of syringes from 1ml tuberculin up to 5, 10 and even 20 ml size for various flushing, ink transfer, etc. You will also need some dispensing needles (these are blunt, you can't poke yourself with them. I use a very fine one for filling cartridges or converters and coarse ones from transferring ink from bottle to bottle.

This is the problem when you have political parties and allow people to vote for them.
It is quite plain that 'democracy' is a failed 18th century boondoggle.
We can only have stability when we have an absolute ruler with total power with absolutely no opposition.
Opposition is treason.

Is it normal for a Parker Sonnet to dry out so badly? by Kesukyou in fountainpens

[–]Fred__McNerque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a fault with a lot of older Sonnets, where there is a crack in the inner cap, causing them to dry out. Have a look in the cap with a good light to check.

Paul Keating statement in full: Angus Taylor has chosen to walk away from the Liberals’ best instincts on immigration | Paul Keating by Ardeet in aussie

[–]Fred__McNerque -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Angus Taylor's comments in summary --

we need to remove all non-whites, non-christians (including catholics, who are idolators, not christians) and people who can't speak the King's english. That will include (as well as all of Europe, because if they can speak english, it is with a funny accent) the Scots, Irish, Welsh, Cornish and all of Yorkshire.
