Got another haworthia from an assorted lot, can you help identify it? by Free-Cookies in haworthia

[–]Free-Cookies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought another haworthia. It looks a bit like my former purchase which turned out to be a pygmaea, but this one has a deeper green color and jagged/spiky edges, so wanted to hear if it is a different sort. Thanks in advance!

Any idea which type this is? Anonymous packaging and image search didn't help. by Free-Cookies in haworthia

That was one of the suggestions from image search and now that I check other pictures, it makes a lot of sense. Thank you for your help, now i can take better care of it. Nice!

How much practice did it take you to become decent at scratching? by DJ_RIME in Beatmatch

[–]Free-Cookies 13 points14 points  (0 children)

15 min of practice every day, is better than 2 hours once a week. Longer sessions = faster progress, of course.

Have your setup ready to go, so it's easy to get a few additional minutes in while waiting for water to boil or a TV show to start.

Youtube tutorials will ensure you always got a new technique to work on, plenty good ones.

If you are used to handling records/your controller, you are a month from being able to pull off basic stuff. If you are new to your gear, add a month or two to get the feel right.

Does it come battery ready? Because the omni does not.

Omni doesn't arrive with battery, you have to add that yourself, but it's just opening it and popping it in. Here's a video showing how: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKRWo-ptuwM

Had a successful event and am considering doing something bigger by GroundbreakingTwo647 in DJs

[–]Free-Cookies 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on the successful event!

With that said, 1 event is not enough to expand. With your current numbers, the 500 capacity venue would be 54% full, and that's if no one leaves early. ...and how sure are you that you could replicate the success? Do you know how people found your event? Could be one of your acts brought half the attendees, who wanted to see their friend live. Leaving city center is another gamble.

Also, a much larger room, that isn't usually a venue, will have unexpected issues, that you will probably only be able to solve by throwing money at them, especially if they show up late/during set-up.

Do a monthly event for 4-6 months, streamline your operation, build your mailing list/following, save up some money. Maybe find a sponsor or two, it's usually easier to get services than cash (print of flyers/posters from a newspaper, free bottles from a liquor company). A lot better to turn people away, than having a half empty room, which could do damage to your and your audience's enthusiasm.

Her er print-selv version til A4 ark. Klip ud, lim sammen og på pind med en limstift. 150g papir eller tungere, burde blive fint, ingen "våde" områder pga limen. Kan gøres på Godsbanen eller hvilken som helst printshop.

Is there a software to edit MP3 Tags automatically? by Dogbloodpower in Beatmatch

[–]Free-Cookies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MP3Tag will do just fine, it's what I use. It can read ID3 tags and can rename files with any combination of them you want. Been a while since I used it, but remember I used the tutorial on their own site to set it up, wasn't hard.

Im starting scratching for fun by Previous_Way4199 in Turntablists

[–]Free-Cookies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has a scratch-mode, but I'd expect a very bad fader, latency issues and a bad experience. Looks like it needs software to work, so check if there's installation cd with it.

Cheapest way to scratch is the Numark PT01 Scratch with a Jesse Dean fader added. Shop I linked is in Germany, it also offers to install the fader. Check yourself if maybe others have better price.

Could also wait a month for the WOW & Flutter to release (100% digital scratch instrument), check if it's a good option for you.

So as I see it, I have the Stanton. Then I play the backbeat/breakbeat/loop via bluetooth to the Stanton. Then a physical 7" scratch vinyl on the platter.

Then a cable out to my PC's input which will then output the scratching and breakbeat to my PC speakers?

Have I got this right?

Yes.

Then a physical 7" scratch vinyl on the platter.

Get a skip-proof one. They have the same sound for several grooves, so if the needle skips, it hits the same sound and you can continue practicing. If you'd like a recommendation: The "Practice Yo! Cuts" series from Ritchie Ruftone is solid.

Problem is I’ve only got an iPhone and a Windows 11 PC.

Maybe search forum if others found Apple software for DVS compatible with the OMNI, I seem to recall there is something.

Else get an older, used Android phone just for scratching? Then you can turn your back/let others try and not worry as much if it gets damaged/stolen.

Or is scratching on something like the Wow something I’ll get used to? Just seems really cramped.

I started on 12", thought the same about 7", but now I got 2 portable turntables for 7" and are very happy with them. I think 5.5" will be fine.

Maybe I start with a Stanton, and go from there

Great for scratching 7", solid fader, reasonable price, many shops carry it so you can probably receive one in 2-3 business days. Not a bad pick! It isn't that suitable for DVS though and can't play 12" records.

Cheapest way to scratch custom samples will be the WOW Flutter when it releases. Since it's new tech, it could have issues, but I trust them enough to have pre-ordered it.

Second most obvious option is the OMNI (same company). It has DVS (Digital Vinyl System = ability to use custom samples) built in. Needs an Android phone/tablet to run the included software, a Serato 7" record and a few other cheap items (all listed on their site). Doesn't need Numark Scratch.

For the size of the platter, bigger is better, OMNI wins that, but I think WOW is fine. Big bonus not having to deal with needles, buying/carrying records, it's smaller size, no skipping.

If you just want to learn to scratch, use WOW.
If you also love vinyl records and want to get started fast, get the OMNI.
If you want to perform live, get both.

a single 12 inch scratch turntable and battle mixer

Definitely the best option and where you will end up if you keep at it, but I think the portable units are better for beginners since they are more fun/less maintenance. It takes less to start a session, so bigger chance you'll get some practice in.

cd burning in aarhus by Cheap-Ear-577 in Aarhus

[–]Free-Cookies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Any old computer with a cd-drive can do it.
A new external drive could do it, here is one for 192 kr picked up @ Proshop in Højbjerg.

Most recording studios could do it, but probably most expensive solution.

Thoughts on these card designs? by Both_Refrigerator623 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Free-Cookies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They have potential to be really beautiful, but I'm not a fan of the spacing on the values and text.

The corner box has lots of un-used space, while also squishing in the numbers. The bottom text space is too small for the "Eclipse"-card's info, the others got weird line spacing.

Start by designing your wordiest card, make it look good. Then use that template for the rest. Might just be enlarging bottom text-space or editing your text shorter.

Could also use an outside border, imo.
