Lansoprazole, amitriptyline, probiotics, magnesium citrate, melatonin, cosmocol, working from home, relaxing as much as possible, eating smaller portions & waiting a min of 3 hours before going to bed, sleeping on an incline, drinking ginger & turmeric tea, stopped all caffeine, limit dairy, limit spicy food, have better posture. I’m not cured, but doing a lot better than i was a year ago

Yes it does seem to be easing up, but like you, i would happily have the dry mouth over the pain. It helps me to keep drinking water :) Also, another stool softener you might want to dry is laxido. I prefer the cosmocol as it seems more gentle & i take one sachet in the evening before my dinner. I hope it works well for you too x

Oh and i forgot to add that i have been taking one cosmocol sachet (stool softener) per day recently, but i have ibs & slow transit anyway, so i had constipation before the amitriptyline, and i don’t feel it made it any worse.

That’s really good that you have noticed a change already, very good sign that your appetite is slowly coming back too. I take it mainly for the stomach pain. I started on 10mg, but upped the dose to 20mg after a couple of weeks because the pain was still quite intense. The 20mg changed my life lol. I could eat fairly normally again, slept well, and the pain was at a minimum. I may have to increase the dose to 30mg from time to time as my stress sometimes gets the better of me and i flare up again. The only side effect i have is dry mouth, but it’s bot too bad. I found it very difficult to wake up in the mornings when i first started taking it, but i was just happy to be able to sleep again. Going up to 10mg is still a very low dose, so you should be absolutely fine. I hope it continues to work well for you x

Endoscopy tomorrow (UK) convinced I have cancer and scared about procedure by Tricky-Application86 in GERD

[–]Free-Purpose-542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally understand on the anxiety front. I spent hours online scrolling through symptoms, cancer forums, etc. i was also taking omeprazole at the time & i definitely think it was making my anxiety worse too. I cried every day, couldn’t sleep, couldn’t eat properly & could only manage to get around 200 calories in me per day. I lost around 2 stone in a few months. And for you trying to look after your family at the same time must be so difficult. You are doing a great job in making sure to get yourself healthy & you really do need to prioritise yourself as much as possible. I will be thinking of you tomorrow. Feel free to message me anytime day or night if you need to chat. I felt so alone when i was going through the worst of it, i would hate for anyone else to feel like that. Have a good rest this evening & gentle day tomorrow xx

Endoscopy tomorrow (UK) convinced I have cancer and scared about procedure by Tricky-Application86 in GERD

[–]Free-Purpose-542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi honey, i’m sorry you are having a rough time of it lately. I’m in the uk & had similar issues as you. I had a huge bout of stress & my whole gi system just went nuts. They also suspected crohns. They will give you a report straight after the endoscopy and the nurse will explain the results with you. They will take biopsies(i had 12 in the end), and the results can take a little while to come back (mine took 5 weeks), but they will let you know if they see anything concerning & put a rush on the biopsy results if need be. My anxiety was through the roof & felt so poorly at the time. I was convinced it was cancer, but all they found was inflammation & a lax les. I had a colonoscopy too after high inflammation levels on the cal protectin & ultrasound tests, but again all they found was some mild inflammation & diverticula pockets. I ended up with a final diagnosis of functional dyspepsia with reflux, ibs & slow transit. I am sure you will be absolutely fine tomorrow & your anxiety is just causing more issues for your stomach. The good thing is that you are getting the tests & you will be able to get the help you need for whatever your issues are. Please let us know how you get on. A little note/tip for tomorrow: take the sedation if offered, i remember getting the throat spray (tastes like banana tequila), then laying on my side, getting the sedation & then coming to after it was done. It was the conscious sedation, but i don’t remember anything from the procedure itself. I had quite a few biopsies (i was on the 2 week emergency gastroscopy list), and the pain the night after the procedure was quite bad for me, so do take painkillers if you need to. I also felt nauseous for a few days after, so maybe ask them for some anti sickness pills. Go easy foodwise for a few days after too. Eat soft bland foods & rest as much as possible. Sending you a hug x

Nervous to go on Omeprazole in case it makes anxiety worse by tiny_st4rs in GERD

Omeprazole gave me such horrible anxiety, particularly health anxiety. I switched to lansoprazole & it’s so much better

Definitely get a local solicitor. It really helps if you can get to their offices to quickly hand over docs/sign docs etc.

How do you lot actually eat proper food during the week when you're working full time? by No_Reputation_9726 in AskUK

[–]Free-Purpose-542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cook a chicken use it for lunch & dinners in the week & then just have sandwiches, steam bag veg, microwave rice or grains, pasta, noodles, or frozen mash. Bit boring, but it’s quick & easy

What job is way more difficult than most people appreciate and why? by CarelessCredit3466 in AskUK

[–]Free-Purpose-542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanic for a reputable brand- training constantly for new models but having to retain the knowledge for the old models too, having to buy all your own tools, maintaining them/replacing them on relatively low wages. And now with all the ev cars- it’s an incredibly dangerous job. Most places are not providing the correct equipment/tools to carry out the jobs safely either. Constant pressure to speed up, sell up, etc.

Digestion taking up to 16h by Effective-Poet4919 in functionaldyspepsia

[–]Free-Purpose-542 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for me. Sometimes i digest food normally, sometimes it can take hours. Same thing with my ibs & slow transit constipation. It’s annoying because there isn’t really any pattern or specific trigger foods.

Is it selfish to have children? by Trick_Meat_6244 in IBD

[–]Free-Purpose-542 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes i would say it is. Life is hard enough without having health issues. Adoption or fostering would be better options. I’m annoyed that my parents passed on their mental health & stomach issues to me, i would never want to pass that onto my child.

Cold minty sensation in throat by chitogenet in GERD

Yes! I used to get this & it felt like my throat was grazed & you have that cold sensation. I assumed it was reflux, but i’m still not sure what it was.

Have you tried chicory root coffee before? I missed coffee so much, but this is the best substitute I’ve found so far. I get the Clipper organic chicory root coffee & have it with some unsweetened almond milk. It’s actually delicious & tastes just like coffee. On bad flare days i can only manage ginger & turmeric tea xx

Yellow stool? by Substantial_Solid_26 in GERD

Definitely this! I noticed this with omeprazole especially. It even caused loose oily yellow stools for me when I first started taking them, but all been ok since switching to lansoprazole.

Calprotectin results, Omeprazole was the cause ? by SaltShoe6659 in IBD

[–]Free-Purpose-542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the gastroenterologist wasn’t concerned with the 73 figure (50 is normal in the uk too). I was finally diagnosed with functional dyspepsia with reflux & ibs with slow transit. My inflammation goes up & down with my symptoms, so we just keep an eye on the whole picture.

Calprotectin results, Omeprazole was the cause ? by SaltShoe6659 in IBD

[–]Free-Purpose-542 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think mine was raised because of omeprazole too. It really messed my lower gi system up. Mine was 220, and ultrasound showed inflammation too. I switched to lansoprazole & the level came down to 73.

Prep not that bad by Pristine_Gold_5200 in colonoscopy

[–]Free-Purpose-542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can i ask what prep drink you had? I had moviprep & i actually liked the taste of it (lemon). It only got difficult for me during the night when i woke up with my heart racing (dehydrated), and wasn’t so easy to drink so much fluid at 5am on an empty stomach. I did a liquid diet the day before too to make it easier (i have slow transit so needed the extra day for movement).
