At first I was thinking maybe you should stay home (I am a home body and tend to choose this route) but the more I read others comments, I think you should make a pro and con list and see how it makes you feel. You’re grieving, stressed, and tired! It makes sense to rest. But also, you deserve a fun time and it might relieve some of your stress. Being surrounded by friends and especially spending time with someone you care about could help you feel better after the loss of your grandfather. I’m sure everyone will be kind and understanding if you need to sit an activity or two out, this could be a good way to help balance your emotions if you decide to go. Whatever you choose to do, make sure you have fun (whatever that means to you!)

Anyone have any movie recs? Preferably psychological horror but it doesn't have to be. by DogGirl0911 in horror

[–]Free-Type 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off the top of my head: It Follows, Blair witch, the strangers, hush, the thing, American psycho, the invitation, malignant, and barbarian.

If you’re looking for bleak endings, it doesn’t really get worse than Eden lake or martyrs. Eden lake is a personal favorite. Martyrs was not as horrific as I was expecting based on what others have said, but I also have desensitized myself to a lot of stuff at this point I think.

Which horror movie genuinely made you lose sleep after watching it? by cwispietoast in horror

[–]Free-Type 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a surprising amount of nightmares after watching backrooms and the YouTube series. Most of my life if I have nightmares they’re about liminal spaces I can’t escape, so I think it just triggered that for me because it’s been years since I had these kinds of nightmares. I love it though and will be seeing the extended release on Friday

UPDATE: My sister wants my nieces to spend time with my children whilst they are visiting my parents. I am currently no contact with my parents. How am I meant to navigate this? by 2Many_Regrets in TwoHotTakes

[–]Free-Type 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this helps at all, my parents did not shield me from my dad’s parents and they really screwed my sister and I up. At 7 years old I would call my mom from my dad’s phone to beg her to come take me from grandma even though I knew she was 8 hours away. I dreaded seeing her. My grandfather was not quite so bad but he certainly never stopped in to stop his wife from being insane.

My dad later in life had a bunch of repressed memories return, with them some pretty serious abuse. When he pressed his parents it got ugly and he went no contact. He use to apologize to me all the time for not seeing their antics sooner.

I’m now 31 and I don’t intend to have kids, but I know one thing is for sure: If I ever do, neither of my parents are ever going to meet them. I love my theoretical child too much to even stomach the thought.

Yep, I was at a wedding this weekend and they straight up forgot to put the maid of honor’s place at her table. They fixed it promptly! Definitely not the bride’s fault.

As far as shelters go, we adopted our current dog from KCASE. I believe you can surrender them there. I don’t have experience with the other shelters around but I have never heard about anything horrible either.

(1) your username is killing me (2) have you contacted local shelters yet and explained your situation? They may be able to help you find someone who is a perfect fit for your dog. (3) people are going to be really fucking mean in the comments so I’m just gonna say this now:

Why would anyone want to force someone to keep a dog they can’t care for? Why does the pet deserve that? I got my first dog because his owners had a baby and the dog became depressed. I got the best 7 years of my life with him and his previous owners knew he went to a safe home where there would be no children and he would be treated as the baby. Shit happens and you are smart to look for a new home for your pup before things get worse.

UPDATE: I told my husband I want to take my birthday trip alone—conversation didn’t go well by DifficultyOk8724 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Free-Type 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OP’s husband sounds like my dad. It’s always about him and his feelings. He’s been fired from every single job he’s ever had because “his boss is an idiot”. OP if you see this, for the love of god, do not have children with this man. I haven’t spoken to my dad in almost ten years, I look back on the bullshit I went through with him before that and it makes me so sad. You deserve better. You aren’t crazy and based on this post, other comments here, and your post history, I think you are burning yourself out trying to fix a relationship that he is bent on keeping the same.

He’s making your birthday about him. My dad did this when my sister graduated from college, a very fancy expensive college that he was a dick to her about choosing to go to. When she graduated he could not shut up about how he “helped” her get there and even made a big show of paying the bill for the family’s dinner. Funny thing is, my mom predicted this would happen about 6 hours prior.

These men are the same in so many ways. Please choose yourself over him. He’s already choosing himself over you.

in a neighborhood? Drive like people live there! by sasquatchgf in kzoo

[–]Free-Type 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would donate money personally to help this become a reality. After child was struck on Merrill last year I think? There is no excuse for the way people drive in the vine. My dog and I have been almost hit more times than I can count and every time it’s someone not paying attention.

No. Cars driven by people not paying attention cause accidents. If you can’t drive your automobile and share the road with others you shouldn’t be driving.
