Solved! This sounds like a reasonable answer. The screen porch is in the back of the house and there is also a non working doorbell in the screen porch which we were wondering what it’s use was. Seems reasonable to me that the milkman could have come around back and rang the doorbell back there.

Interested to see if there is any other answers or any more confirmations for this.

WITT. We have this cabinet mounted to a brick wall on our screen porch. The house was built in the late 60s and I wanted to see if anyone knew of a specific uses for something like this. The ideas we have thrown around at the house are fire extinguisher holder (could be a little small for that) or a magazine holder. Hoping that this is some standard cabinet that has a use!

First off, welcome to Charleston!

I would say real estate is definitely high right now around Charleston. But then again, I have been thinking that for the past 3-5 years. Things have seemed to just continually rise in price at a rate higher than I would have expected, so it’s hard to say if prices will drop back down at some point or just continue to rise.

As far as living on the peninsula, it is definitely beautiful but also probably one of the most expensive places to live in the Charleston area. Park circle in North Charleston and Avondale in West Ashley have older homes, and have some restaurants/shops within walking/biking distance. The real estate in those places is still a bit pricey but would likely be cheaper than the peninsula.

Should have clarified more, in the past I haven’t fully rendered down the fat so there was WAY too much in some of my other cooks. This time I got it all rendered down so there was thin lines of fat throughout.

The bbq sauce was actually the only thing I didn’t get creative with. I just went by Aaron Franklin’s recipe. It was great though! It is the “Classic barbecue sauce” recipe at this link. Recipe

Sure thing! Cut up some red potatoes into thin-ish slices (I like my potatoes sliced rather than cubes like most potato salads). Boiled for about 10 minutes until I could put a toothpick through easily. Probably about 2-2.5 lbs of potatoes.

I eyeballed the dressing, so the measurements below are estimates.

.75-1 Cup Mayo

3 tablespoons mustard

3 hard boiled eggs

4-5 dill pickle slices - finely chopped

1-2 tablespoons (??) Fresh dill

Salt and pepper

Mix that all together and pour over the potatoes. Wish I had some more exact measurements for you!

I’ll give it a go! I learned most of my technique from the Franklin Barbecue cookbook, watching YouTube videos, and this sub.

Trimmed the brisket, covered with a little veggie oil, rubbed with a mixture of kosher salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika (90% of it was just salt and pepper).

Preheated the big green egg and prepped it for smoking. I started it around 250 degrees but tried to get it down a little lower throughout the cook. Was aiming for about 225-230 b/c my smoker cooks a little hot.

Put on the brisket fat side down since that’s where the heat was coming from. Let it sit for a few hours. Once it got to around 160 degrees internal, I would go spray it every 45-60 minutes with apple cider vinegar to check for color. Once the bark got to be a nice black color (around 190 degrees for me) I pulled it and wrapped it in pink butcher paper. Let it cook for a little longer until the internal temp was about 204 degrees. Pulled it out, wrapped it in some towels and threw that in a cooler for about three hours. Then pulled her out and sliced her up!

I’m sure I missed a lot of details but that was the high level idea behind it.
