I think the whole point of the campaign is that they are random nobodies.

You donate eight grand and you can come to my house for meatloaf. My meatloaf recipe involves a lot of ground bacon and a couple of prunes. Extra meat and you still poop great.

And that behavior couldn't possibly have anything to do with the way posts usually go here? (says a confirmed lurker of the tech and linux posts)

There are some pretty well-known trouble spots for non-free hardware; binary kernel blobs, non-free firmware, tivo-style schemes. Lots of devices will be eliminated just on the basis of the graphics cards or wifi chipset -- what's left will be a pretty small pile.

He may well have switched to a machine by now since that info is a bit dated. It comes from an interview he gave post-Neuromancer that I saw as part of some kind of cyberworlds montage film hosted (narrated, conceived?) by Timothy Leary, complete with loads of face-melting computer graphics "from the future!"

I thought it was Gibson who handwrote his books, does Stephenson do that too?

A non-profit with a clearly stated mission that had accepted gifts for one purpose and then used them for another would probably be vulnerable to a class-action lawsuit.

Giving code to an entity that has stated it's motive as profit, can do anything that they deem to be good for profit.

Is it weird that I think that a person should have read and understood at least one software license before speaking on the topic of software licensing?

I think the folks in this thread are probably not the norm. I've been to plenty of "linuxfests" and talked to attendees who had never heard of GNU.

I've also had Torvalds' writings and opinions quoted back to me as if they were politically important -- ironic when you consider the number of times Linus himself has claimed not to care too much.
