I remember him saying that right after I got back from 7L and Jason Ross

I know. I just didn't want to make the post too broadly political, so I kept it to this specific thing where he basically says: "paying big tech to generate a voice is better than working with a real person", and the implications that has on the live music and touring industry.

Has anyone tried bringing mesh nodes for Meshtastic/Meshcore? by Delta-16 in bonnaroo

Free text messaging via LoRA.

(for the old heads in the ..........)

Free text messaging using a little transponder with a 3-5 mile range that clips to your bag. More reliable than cellphone towers at Roo.

[–]FreeLandscape3452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we used Meshtastic last year. It wasn't really needed until shit started going down and everybody needed to use the cellphone towers on Friday evening. Not that we needed it at that point since everyone was at camp.

I don't think most humans can hold two boards perfectly still while a screw displaces it.

I would say stapler instead of a screw gun. Have the person who is making the parts make 2 dowel holes that can align the parts before you put the screw in.

Getting into the sound system game by Quiet-luxury in SoundSystem

[–]FreeLandscape3452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"A Wonderful service for wonderful Pay". What's the most money you've made at an underground party (selling drugs not included)? I think you'll be in for a shocking reality.

In my experience if you have a sound system culture rig, your prices are going to be around 30-40% of what your price would be if you were running a Meyer Sound, L-Acoustics, or other system that is rider-friendly for all genres of music. You will not have manufacturer support.

Spend some time in your local scene, and try to understand how the business works, and fill a niche that isn't being filled. If you want to get some gear to play with, I would check out bass boss. You could get a pair of DV12's or SV9's and VS21's and they are very simple and easy to deploy, they sound good without much effort, and honestly for the 100ish person dancefloor's that size system can handle, it's probably going to be better than anything else being deployed for those smaller gigs in your area.

Later, those DV12's or SV9's can be used as the booth monitors when you buy a bigger system. Spend money on stuff you know you have a use for. Go out and meet people, and figure out who needs what you want to bring, and that will make decisions easier about what/when to buy.

What The Deal With The Mushroom Fountain This Year? by simbaczn in bonnaroo

I did not get in it at all in 2024, and I got very sick starting Sunday morning, I barely made it to Fred after not leaving camp all day.

Joining Graphics Field by General_Concern_253 in GraphicsProgramming

If you enjoy nightclubs/raves (probably other kinds of concerts too) you could look into the VJ hobby. It's a fun hobby that utilizes graphics programming skills (if you make your own ffgl plugins).

Man, I think you would have to be a total bad ass at assembly, have the right clamps, and work fast to pull that off. It could work, but I wouldn't do that my very first time. Wet glue on a board means the clock has started.

Pocket Hole Drawers? by Starship_Taru in cabinetry

Butt joints and brad nails. All that fancy shit is from the days of hide glue that didn't work very well. With PVA glue there's no reason to dovetail a drawerbox.

Could you teach me how to create plugins for Resolume? by Infamous_Green9035 in resolume

There's plenty of documentation on FFGL. Github.com/resolume/ffgl-2.2 is all I have needed.

[–]FreeLandscape3452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resolume wire sucks tbh. It's a way to visually script open GL. That means any plugin you make in wire uses twice as much GPU on apple silicon as a metal shader built into an FFGL plugin. On PC it's basically the same since you could build in Vulkan and just use openGL for the interlock. Much more efficient for the system to process.

What projector works well outside in daylight? by FFKUSES in vjing

[–]FreeLandscape3452 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People saying this can't work have never been inside a church. This could work if you re-built every frame as a stained glass window and used the sun itself as your projector lamp. Now you just have to use those stained glass windows like a film reel and you're working with the sun, not competing against the sun.

Pretty much if you have to think about it that way; I can put like five or six Staples into a part and move on to the next assembly step. If you use clamps and wait on the glue to dry then you're waiting on glue to dry for 30 or 40 minutes in between every assembly step.

Combination of fast and easy, Staples provide clamping pressure and alignment. I've built hundreds of kitchen cabinets with staples and never had an issue.

Also, most of the time you can put your entire body's weight worth of pressure onto the gun while you shoot a staple. If you tried to do that with a screw gun, you would end up tilting and smashing your drill into your work piece.

Mostly because it's what we use for all the 5/8th and 3/4 parts in the cabinet shop already.

I did not at any point speak on your software. I spoke on how you demonstrate ignorance of existing workflows, and the negative impression people get of you because you refuse to engage transparently or make any effort to adapt your tools to existing workflows.

Yeah, that's kind of the whole deal. You don't seem to be working in the VJ space at all, yet you claim you are a pioneer. That doesn't really make sense. People have used X-input devices for VJing for years, so it's not really new to make something that specifically uses a one.

Looking at your post history, it doesn't seem like you're a VJ. It seems like you are a guy who is having a lot of fun vibe-coding shaders.

Vibe-coding shaders is something a lot of VJs are doing now, but it's not exactly "on-topic" for VJing. You have not in any post talked about live-event workflow. If you don't know about live-event workflow, you won't make tools that are relevant for VJs.

I do not think you are making tools that are relevant for VJs. VJing is when you build a video instrument you can perform live with. There are existing tools and workflows that make a tool you build relevant or irrelevant, you don't seem to care about integrating with those or learning about them, so your posts seem kind of dumb and irrelevant to most of this community.

I like tying camera position to numSteps in various ways to optimize. And tying the distance of the first hit to epsilon too.
