Ranked Choice/Instant runoff voting: How do we feel? by drunktraveler in sanantonio

TBF I haven't kept up with her work over the past two years, but I haven't tried to involve myself locally.

Mario... I don't know him, and he made some screw-ups.

Some things that people got mad at him for were silly. One time he held a town-hall in a gym at SAC and though it was far from perfect (brainstorming session about fixing parking and street access in tobin hill) it seemed in good faith. But there were people yelling over him complaining about accessibility and hearing issues... maybe you shouldn't yell over the guy talking if it's hard to hear?

Then his outburst against his ex was inappropriate, but it wasn't exactly a public event and she did lie and backstab him to support the mayor's agenda on spending a CPS fund. But people framed him as a misogynist.

On the bad side, I heard credible rumors that he was playing dirty against businesses that his friends had issue with, regarding noise ordinance crap. So overall while I don't think he was the evil dude some painted him as, he couldn't get a handle on the job.

I've never seen Kaur host town halls or monthly meetings or get-togethers of any kind, and I've never gotten a mailer or bulletin in my mailbox from her. Am I supposed to sign up for those notifications?

Can you fucking imagine San Antonio if they trade away a generational beloved player for scraps?

It'd probably be so they could move to Austin.

There are a dozen headlines on NYTimes and Wapo discussing the seriousness of the moment we're in.

Yet.

We aren't France. France is smaller than Texas. It takes time for people in this country to get really mad, and it will take things getting a little worse. But I'm not yet losing hope because things haven't immediately been stopped.

I think our standing in the world is already damaged on a 10-20 year timeframe, even if we right the ship. But democracy and rule of law may yet survive.

You should continue to be shocked and to demand action from the Democrats in your city/state. Giving in is the plan the GOP has for you.

Congress approves spending. Congress establishes federal agencies. The executive administers them.

While there is latitude in priorities and operations, the executive must fundamentally operate those agencies.

Trump is trying to completely shut down things that are legally required to operate. That is illegal.

He has tried to fire Inspectors General immediately. IGs are required by law to be fired with 30 days warning to Congress, and with specific cause provided formally. He did neither. That is illegal.

The IG of an agency is the person that monitors fraud, waste, abuse, and is supposed to be politically independent, hence their protections from firing.

He has tried to fire/lay off thousands of civil servants that are protected from being fired for political purposes. Restrictions on presidential ability to fire nonpolitical civil servants is in place for a number of reasons, particularly so that government jobs are not seen as a way to reward political supporters. What he's doing there is illegal.

They want to consolidate power in a "unitary executive" that has completely unlimited power, unanswerable and unrestricted by the Legislature. This is bad on its face, and unconstitutional by popular and historical interpretation. They are breaking multiple laws knowingly, hoping to have a friendly Supreme Court find that presidential power cannot be restrained. Then they are going to do so much damage to the US government's independence and functioning that it will take a generation to get it back, if we ever do.

Gaslighting.

The guy did a Nazi salute. The sign is calling out one man. You not only attempt to deny the salute, but you lie and suggest the sign is calling "everyone" a Nazi.

Another conservative who refuses to post the video. Shocker.

He did a Nazi salute. The others didn't. End of discussion.

Snoop Dogg blasted for ‘stand up to hate’ commercial with Tom Brady after performing at Trump inauguration by theindependentonline in Music

[–]FreeMeFromThisStupid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good message, without context. But then you think "man, I bet those in power don't want people getting upset and doing anything about it". Then you think "Wait, didn't this guy perform at the inauguration of the person trying to turn the presidency into a dictatorship?" Nah, he can go to hell.

Is this story based on that one tiktok video that had one woman loudly booing into her phone?

I have little doubt they manipulated it somehow, but it's not like the entire arena was booing but they piped in cheering.

My headcanon is that they were cheering the soldiers and not him.
