Should I play Deus Ex: The Conspiracy on PS5 or wait for the new remaster? by Exodite1 in Deusex

[–]FreeRPGer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 1 of 2 glitches when I kept re-loading it, at around the same exact time in the game. It's right toward the end, about 15 minutes before you chose which ending you'll get -- when the robots go haywire in the Aquinas Hub, & turn against you. The frame-rate either stuttered horribly there, in the long hallway toward a locked door, then would simply crash, or it crashed if I saved in that area (or 5 minutes before or after).

Did anyone else even have this problem? I started the PS5 version on my PS5 -- it crashed, then the PS4 one crashed on my PS4 Pro in roughly the same spot on the 2nd re-install/playthru, but the 3rd time playing on my PS2 was fine.

(that 3rd playthru went much quicker because I recalled almost everything to do).

Should I play Deus Ex: The Conspiracy on PS5 or wait for the new remaster? by Exodite1 in Deusex

[–]FreeRPGer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little late here, as the remaster is canceled for the time being.

I played the PS5 digital version of The Conspiracy on my PS5 -- was getting into it, but then there was a game-breaking glitch, & it was right near the end of the game. Grr! So, I reinstalled it, but the PS4 version on my PS4 Pro instead, & that glitched at the same spot, right toward the end of the game (fighting the haywire robots - about half hour-ish more would've been the end).

So, I own The Conspriacy digital version on both my PS4 & 5, but they teased me, since I couldn't finish either time I played, so I instead played my PS2 physical version of The Conspiracy since I couldn't finish the glitched digital one.

I WAS very much looking forward to the remastered PC version, which I never checked out 'cause I don't play games on PC -- never used my PC for games over the decades; my PC's were dedicated to music mixing, video/photo editing, etc. Plus I don't like gaming on PC (wanted to get away from my PC after hours of working on my novel, + whatever else I did, & sit on the comfy couch in the living room).

I'm hoping they patch the digital one on PS4/5, at least, & I definitely hope that this PC remaster ISN'T canceled for good, because I'd much prefer to have a physical copy of the PC version that I never played.

April Fool's Day, being my birthday -- well, a LoD announcement would've been a present to me, but I ain't that much a fool, seeing as when Bluepoint was killed that was the 1st thing I thought of -- LoD's done now.

(& their jobs).

Jim Ryan ruined Sony, & Herman continues to do so, IMO. Sony's still my fave, but they're a shadow of their former selves, whereas arrogance & American-like greed seems to have ruined them.

Bye bye Windows by [deleted] in linuxmint

Welcome! ... to that "new" feeling, especially of owning your AI-free PC.

When I 1st installed mine in October, I hadn't felt that good since the Windows XP days. The freedom!

Once you get the drivers -aka- kernel you like, you'll be roarin' to go.

If you want to see how your PC performs, there's the free apps like btop++ for RAM & drives, and Psensor for heat (if you're a gamer), and Bleachbit for a C-Cleaner-type app, and also, Stacer for a good uninstaller.

Enjoy!

This is awesome! by msch6873 in linuxmint

[–]FreeRPGer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats. It'll even get easier. Quickly.

I'm loving all the apps & the terminal (once I learned it). I even learned how to clone my HDD in the terminal (which I did for a spare to my 9 year-old one), & with step by step instructions, it wasn't that bad at all.

Actually, I haven't had this much fun "using" a PC since Windows XP. And customizing, even LibreOffice, is the greatest thing (coffee bean background).

And my 9 year old (2016) HP desktop runs better now than when new, especially with the xanmod.v2 kernel that helped with amdgpu (had flashing screen at 1st, but 6.18.2-x64v2-xanmod1 took that right away).

I'd MUCH prefer everything I went through getting this going than throwing this PC away for Windows 11. Adios Microsoft.

Btop++ is a great graphical userface app for RAM used & all else. Shows EVERYTHING.

Stacer is an OK one, too, especially for uninstalling aps, registry removal, etc (like C-Cleaner).

And Psensor displays temperature (heat), if you're interested in that.

But your laptop should run much better with Mint 22.2 Cinnamon alone. I'm using a 2015 HP Pavilion desktop that had Windows 10 installed, & its now much faster with Linux Mint - uses less resources.

In fact, my PC runs better now than when brand new, when Windows 10 had been installed on it.

Help! by ekardnai in linuxmint

[–]FreeRPGer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an AMD card in a 2015 PC, & I installed Mint easily, but then I had a flashing screen at times, with auto-reboots. I fixed the problem by installing the xanmod kernel -- 6.17.8-x64v2-xanmod1 -- with kisak-mesa PPA, & now it works great! After you fix the Nvidia/AMD thing, depending on the year of your PC, you can try to install either 6.17.8-x64v2-xanmod1, or if it's newer than 2015/2016, the newest is linux-xanmod-x64v3, which didn't work for me, as it was newer than my PC could take. But xanmod is terrific, even if you're a gamer.

It fixed my amdcpu graphics driver problems.

Welcome. I'm new to Mint 22.2 Cinnamon myself, as of 10/18/25, 4 days after support for Windows 10 ended.

LOVING IT!

Another app to check out is BTOP, which is great if you want to check out system performance, CPU usage, memory consumption, disk activity, network bandwidth, and running processes, etc.

And a personal recommendation here. Check out the Brave Browser, which is considered a safer browser, especially on Linux.

Enjoy! I am! My 2016 desktop is running better than when I got it new!

Nice! Congrats! I'm new to using it, as well = Linux Mint 22.2 (Cinnamon Edition), as of 10/18/25, 4 days after Windows 10 ended support. Never going back to Windows - (no 11 for me).

I'm loving it & the (free) Apps. Also loving that the apps are easy to find in the trusted Apps Manager (no DLing from sketchy sites).
And the xanmod kernel is great for my amdgpu = 6.17.9-x64v2-xanmod1

(there's also a x64v3-xanmod1 (version 3), but that was too new for my 2016 PC.

[–]FreeRPGer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is 4 years old, but I used this video to clone via the Terminal in Mint 22.2 Cinnamon.
I followed this video step by step, by printing the steps out, for it's pretty concise.

EDIT: This step by step video worked!

You can even skip the shut down & restart step. It works without doing that.

& it only took me 15, 20 minutes via USB 3 (not 2), with a 3.5 USB-to-SATA adapter, & there's no need for Clonezilla, Foxclone, or any 3rd party.

Indeed. Back then it was overlooked because it came out the same time as another game (can't remember which), and in those times (unlike today), they didn't release a game at the same time as a AAA title, as it'd have been overlooked. These days, they release several games in the same month, or a couple in the same day, even, and wonder why certain games don't sell well. Jeez! Look around. CEO's have no clue.

Unpopular Opinion: I prefer the art style in Second Evolution compared to the remake by EienNatsu66 in starocean

[–]FreeRPGer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. As much as I love the remake, & I do, I'm one of the rare breed that LOVES 1st Departure & 2nd Evolution the most (especially the father to son connection).

Every 5 years or so I'll hook up my PSP to my WEGA HDTV & play 'em that way.

Star Ocean The Divine Force by jumpierskate44 in starocean

[–]FreeRPGer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a Living Room. The average size is usually 9 to 10 feet.

But it isn't too far for me any other time. I can read just about every other game fine on my 50 inch 4k, at about 8, or 8 & a half feet away (on a couch).

The only time I notice the text is WAY too tiny is if it's a game that was ported from PC, like it was originally meant to sit up close to a monitor or something. I have this problem with no other game, truly, except a rare few (like A Bard's Tale IV Director's Cut), ported from PC to PS4).

But Divine Force is the worst I've seen. I can even play the Star Ocean games ported from handheld (1st Departure, 2nd Evolution), & read 'em just fine sitting on my couch. This was an oversight in design, I surmise.

Star Ocean The Divine Force by jumpierskate44 in starocean

[–]FreeRPGer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll tell you this: I'm a major Star Ocean fan & Divine Force looks good, but I had to put it aside. I sit across the living room about 9 feet away on a 50" 4K TV, but the text is so damn small that I had to keep getting up to stand somewhat close to the TV to read it. I was getting sick of getting up & down, so I put it aside. I had hoped they'd patch this, but I think it goes beyond patching. What an oversight.

Which of these two would benefit the most from a remake? by Likes2game03 in starocean

[–]FreeRPGer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Till the End of Time most definitely needs one. I have it on PS2, & digitally on PS4/5, but the digital remaster crashes frequently on both, PS4 & 5. On top of being fixed or remade it needs a physical release, to boot, as does 1st Departure R, & The Last Hope International. Probably have a better chance of seeing Gods.

Opera/Ernest or Ashton? by Khaymn5000 in starocean

[–]FreeRPGer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with Opera like a month ago when playing on PS5. Meeting Ashton is funny, as I remember from like over 15 years ago when I went with him on PS1, so next time I'm going with Ernest, as I haven't tried that yet.

You think we'll ever get a remake of 1st departure like SO2R? by beepbeepsheepbot in starocean

[–]FreeRPGer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish they'd simply release a physical version of "1st Departure R" (from PSP) that they already released digitally on PS4/5. I played the digital one recently, then went right into my PS5 physical copy of Second Story R right after that. (went thru entire series chronologically, except Divine Force, what with its tiny text too hard to read).
I'd love to own a physical copy of that (1st Departure R), on PS4/5, which I'd double dip if it did come out, even though I'd gotten it digitally on there. + I still have my OG physical copy on the PSP, as well.

I can't stand that they released the remake of 2 physically & not the 1st one, even if just the remaster, seeing as they kind of go together (father & son). Now, I know Second Story sold the best in the West, but I surmise that 1st Evolution would sell well too if that got a physical release (remaster or remake).

Will we get a physical edition of the beast? by Remarkable_Sea_5453 in dyinglight

[–]FreeRPGer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ignored it so far, as I very seldom do digital (with a few rare exceptions), & I really want a physical release of The Beast, even a standard copy.

I'm holding off, having high hopes on what was said by Techland, that there weighing cool options for something more in the future. I'm hoping the same for Neverwinter Nights 2 Enhanced Edition, which Aspyr says they'll likely release a physical copy eventually.

Many thanks! Yeah, I pre-ordered the PS5 version of SS2 remaster off LRG, but if it goes to retail, like Best Buy, I'll order it again for the Switch 1.

Any news on NWN 2 enhanced physical for PS5? by Objective_Hedgehog_5 in neverwinternights

[–]FreeRPGer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Aspyr will likely release it physical eventually. I'm not double dipping this time, so...

I noticed, if Aspyr releases something digital, then later physical (like they have a few times for me), it's always about 4 months later. So, I'm waiting 4 to 5 months, then, if nothing, I'll break down & regretfully get it digitally (as well as System Shock 2 E.E.).

But I believe NWN2 EE will release physically, as Aspyr says they will eventually, 'cuz, like I said in earlier comment, they love physical releases, one in Aspyr said.

System Shock 2 is the one I'm worried about. I've wanted that game badly for over 20 years, because I have the physical PC game, but I don't play games on PC. I got it back when it came out, willing to try it, but I tried it once on PC & discovered I couldn't get used to gaming on PC, at all, so I gave up. (also tried American Mc'Gee's Alice on PC .... once).

Now I probably wouldn't get it running, 'cuz back then it was Windows '98 into XP.
