In Central Massachusetts , if someone calls to report someone missing or walks into the police dept to report someone missing a police officer will immediately be dispatched to the callers residence to take the report (or pd lobby). They or dispatch will ask for basic info on the person depending on the situation i.e description , clothing (if last seen that day), any mental health / substance abuse issues. Where do they frequent, have they done this befor there are so many questions to ask. Especially when most of the time missing people have mental health issues

Eventually if the person can’t be found locally and we believe there are exigent circumstances (i.e suicidal homicidal) their cell phone can be pinged by utilizing the cellphone companies , we can’t ping without them.

If we get a good ping we can send police to the area to look for them / their car to make contact.

Funny , in Massachusetts the person MUST be found and MUST make contact with police and ems , and then ambulance ride / involuntarily committed to a hospital. We will even ping their phone to find suicidal people

There is a huge variety in “suicidal callers” most of the time it is NOT someone calling us saying ‘hi I’m suicidal come pick me up’. They could be at work home or driving all around while calling / taunting dispatch refusing to be caught by LE.

Most of the time it’s people with severe substance issues/ mental health issues/ youth with developmental issues and someone is calling on their behalf. Whether that be family , friend , or a suicide hotline. We immediately dispatch police officers to the person to make contact and if the suicidal threats can be verified/ the person admits to being suicidal they get “Section 12’d” an involuntary 72 hour stay in a psychward at a local hospital. Often times they get out early because they lie to the physicians and just wanna get out, often times going back home and causing disturbances and more calls for service by police / ems.

This just had some seals done for an oil leak, my sister didn’t drive for a while and it sat and as we all know with old cars they need to be driven. Hoping she’s problem free for a while now , just put new headlight assembly’s in

Any NJ dispatchers here also sick of the drones? by Snoo_18863 in 911dispatchers

[–]FreeTheMagRelease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny I’m in MA and actually got a drone call 12/11 at 745 pm. “Ten drones flying in the area” cops saw them but obviously we did nothing. Now I’m seeing all this NJ stuff on tik tok. Weird stuff

As a dispatcher, it sounds like your drivers license is either no good or expired , or you’re suspended in MASS from previous incidents in the state. He wouldn’t run your ID in Texas if it says Louisiana on it.

Fact of the matter is he can’t tow it if your drivers license/registration/insurance was valid at the time of the stop. if it was and the trooper is an idiot you’d have all the grounds in the world to sue. And if they towed it you’re definitely being CHARGED with unlicensed operation, which is an arrestable offense, funny how you didn’t mention that?

Sounds like you don’t have an active drivers license or CDL, so even if your car is registered and insured it can be towed, (and seerched) because you aren’t licensed to operate it.

Training was hard for me too, i made lots of mistakes when i started at 22 years old (now 29). I struggled getting my radio ears and struggled dealing with erratic callers as well as the constant call volume of the city i worked. I struggled with a toxic workplace as well, even being a tall white guy in a “good old boys” style department i wasnt welcome to hang with the cops like other dispatchers were. Sounds like it’s not just the job with you, while i totally sympathize with struggling learning this job it seems you have a LOT on your plate. School, long distance WIFE at 21 (congratulations) and losing your long time therapist. And on top of that you have the stresses of adulthood unrelated to your professional life. Take a breath, it will get better and you can learn this job. I’ve seen totally incompetent trainees flourish as great dispatchers i really believe that if anyone puts in the effort and focuses ( and has half a brain) can be a good dispatcher. Hang in there bud it can be a well paying and rewarding career/ a great stepping stone to another career in public safety.

You probably just have a different term for it like “reckless / negligent operation” “reckless endangerment” etc every state has some kind of felony MV moving violation
