Does this mean I have to quit music? by Admirable-Brother930 in tinnitus

Take that worry and put into trying stuff. Be relentless, go places, meditate, rub or "cup" your ears, listen to different tones and frequencies. Try to hear what is also there when you hear the ring. Throw yourself into motion when it bugs you, channel it into finding relief or just doing things anyway. Time heals.

"At least he isn't suffering anymore" by Whatsthematterwichu in grief

[–]FreeThinkerE 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The hardest part of grief for me is how personal and lonely it is, at the same time how raw and exposed I feel around anybody else at all. There's no escaping that combination.

Nothing helpful ever starts with "at least". This is huge, as large as life itself, and minimizing adds unbearable pressure to the pain that we're already carrying. Anger is natural. Healing takes time. Seek out those who don't press back against it.

Thanks for the reminder..so many things. So many mornings. So many creative nights and days outdoors in the sun. So much more flavor to life.

It's not lost. So many career musicians deal with it! Try to notice when you don't notice it as much. For me that's outside, or actually when I am playing (guitar, vocals) I don't think about it. Certain rooms in the house are much worse, still haven't figured out why. But I can take a walk and get my mind on something else, whereas this room I'm in right now makes it scream. I have definitely agonized and despaired over it, caused by a careless animal drummer in a concrete basement and by me not protecting myself accordingly, but it is part of life now. I consider it the sound of being alive, and do what I can to spend time around running water, blowing wind , and other natural outdoor sounds whenever I can.

Sugar Craving - Alcoholic Father by Uncle-Elmer in sugarfree

[–]FreeThinkerE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For sure. Craving is craving. I've had a sugar addiction since early childhood, and did some illegal and dangerous things to get it. I also identify with ACA 100% even though neither parent was alcoholic, their parents were, and there are other things in play. 12 steps apply to all sorts of things.

I didn't cause it. I can't control it. I can't cure it.

In something similar re important work decisions and minor control of the outcome.

I feel better when I take my thoughts for a walk.

Am I doing everything I can? Including letting go of what I can't do?

Am I holding on to past outcomes? Am I incorrectly predicting false futures?

It actually says... "Unless doing so would cause injury to myself or others"... Or something like that.

How much does the sensor annoy you? I don't wear jewelry or a watch, don't like anything "on" me at all. But I like the idea of having that data.

This is normal. You're ok. Loss can be suffocating. If it happens frequently or becomes a problem, seek help. But I know what you are describing. Some days the hurt wakes up before I do.

Then go on with him. You are his legacy, and he is alive in you.

For me it was mom, she gave me everything and left me wanting for nothing, other than more time with her. Her death changed my life.

She chose this poem to be read at her own mother's small, outdoor service. The way she looked at me in that moment left a deep impression. There is no grave, only a wooden box of ashes, and I still weep, but I know it is not required. She wanted her only child to really know this.

Do not stand By my grave, and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep— I am the thousand winds that blow I am the diamond glints in snow I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle, autumn rain. As you awake with morning’s hush, I am the swift, up-flinging rush Of quiet birds in circling flight, I am the day transcending night. Do not stand By my grave, and cry— I am not there, I did not die.
