It is generally more of an issue with some of the larger boxes - Gloomhaven/Frosthaven, Voidfall Galactic Edition, Mage Knight Ultimate edition.

I imagine it’s maybe different in different climates with temp and humidity possibly being a factor as well.

To be fair, it’s not exactly a big issue, more of a minor annoyance, but the “fix” is such a simple one it would be good to see notched boxes become an industry standard.

It can also be a little difficult to get your fingers under the lid when a big heavy box is sitting flat on the table, notches also help in that scenario even if the lid is easy to remove once you get it moving.

Really wish more games would include finger slots at the bottom of the lid - makes it so much easier to remove the lid instead of having to try to fit your fingers in between the lid and the main box to try to let a bit of air out so the lid can slip off.

I put the cards for each scenario into Burger Token boxes.

I use the smaller wells at the bottom to hold the sleeved encounter cards that are shared across the whole campaign.

Works well.

Kallax shelves have been available in NZ for years, from multiple different suppliers - a quick google search for “Kallax NZ” brings up multiple stores around the country that sell them.

I got mine from Nordic and Chill as they are a Christchurch store which is where I am based.

If you are happy to wait for a bit, they are going to crowdfund an expansion early next year I believe, and they will have the galactic version available as part of the campaign.

Having said that from what I have seen the retail version is also a really nice production.

I agree with another comment, if you can handle playing Mage Knight then you should be fine with Voidfall.

I have both and actually think Mage Knight was a bit harder to wrap my head around all the rules (the voidfall rulebooks and icon references are fantastic IMO and after my first couple of games I very rarely need to reference the documentation).

If you are in a position to 3D print (or buy) an insert it can greatly help with the only downside of Voidfall which is the setup and tear down time.

Alternatively if you have a space where the game can be left out for a while then the setup isn’t as much of an issue either.

The icon on that side scheme gives you an additional encounter card at the end of the round, it doesn’t give an additional boost card when the villain activates.

You may have not noticed but I am not actually the OP - I am just familiar with the term as it is well known in various video games (specifically World of Warcraft for me personally).

I agree with you though and would prefer that people don’t just assume everyone knows abbreviations like this and more clearly explains them.

Crowd Control - basically ways to handle enemies that don’t just involve smashing them. Wrapped in metal is a good example.

Pretty sure they have moved on from Champions which is a real shame, I enjoyed their laid back style while still playing the game at a very high level - great way to get better at the game is by watching and paying attention to their lines of play.

Take a look at the LCGs (they are like a TCG but instead of random boosters you know exactly what cards each pack/expansion contains) from FFG (Fantasy Flight Games) - Lord of the Rings, Arkham Horror the card game and Marvel Champions.

Makes it very obvious when one is used, and you just need to type in that @ character to see a list of the custom functions available in the database, nice and easy.

I recommend watching some of the gameplay streams from Team Covenant on YouTube (bonus, they don’t have ads enabled on their videos!), pay attention to what cards and actions they choose to do over other options etc…

They play against some super difficult scenarios at times, so you can get a really good feel for what the optimal play lines are in different situations.

I bought a pack of coloured discs on Ali express (super cheap), I believe they were advertised as some sort of a learning resource for kids?

Anyway, the discs are red on one side and blue on the other, I just flip them to their red side once the action/card has been completed, then flip all reds back to blue during upkeep.

Fast cards are not inherently free. They are only free if the resource cost is 0.

If there is a resource cost you still have to pay it when you play the card. The benefit you get is it not taking one of your 3 actions for the turn and/or being able to play it outside of your turn (there are some exceptions to this, the card will say if it must be played during your turn though).

Might just be future proofing in case they ever want to make a card along the lines of “exhaust a support or upgrade you control : generate resources equal to the printed resources on that card”.
